General Methadone Discussion v. Why the Hell Not?

I figured we might as well have a methadone discussion thread since so many of us have started going to a clinic.

Same rules as the Heroin Discussion threads.
 
Maybe you guys can give those of us that don't go to a clinic (like myself) an idea of how it works. Can you just show up? Do they drug test you right away? Will you get a dose the first time you go? How do they determine your dose? Can you use health insurance and do you need it?

If anyone can answer questions like that and give any other info I think it will help people that are thinking of going this route. Might even help some people that are on the fence to decide.
 
I called to make an appointment because I would be late for work so I had to give my boss a heads up. (I didn't tell him the real reason I just said I had a dr appt.) I just pay cash because it's easier for me. I'm pretty sure you have to have opiates in your system or they won't dose you. They test you. It takes 2-3 hours to fill out the paperwork and see the nurse,counselor and doctor. Where I go they start at 30mg and usually increase by 10 every day or so. It is a pain in the ass going every morning but it is better then using in my opinion. My dose ain't right get and I end up using every few days but they don't care. It's after you get stabilized that they frown on dirty urine. I was also told even with a medical marijuana card it is still a dirty urine.

Well, as you guys all know I'm on methadone now.. taking 95mg's. I'm feeling great with it. I was on 85, still not feeling totally right, and just that extra 10mg's made a huge difference. The clinic I'm at is really good, they taper you down slowly and correctly when you're ready to come off, and I've talked to a lot of people who followed their program and came out the other side with the least amount of pain possible.

So, all in all, I'm glad I made this choice. It feels amazing to have stability again in my life.. no longer having to worry about being dope sick, coming up with money, getting arrested, etc. It's a serious weight off my shoulder.
 
I was gonna say I bet 50mg would do the trick I wanna get on mmt but I don't at the same time, ya know?

So it's like 2 snorted bags equals 10mg of done? Or would 50mg just keep me from getting sick
 
You can't really give it a bag to mg ratio because the purity of dope varies so much. You can't really compare H and methadone at all. Very different drugs. 50mg's will keep you from being sick, potentially give you a little euphoria as well.

Why are you hesitant to get on mmt? It's 10x better than using and being all strung out. Have you thought about suboxone?

I was wondering this about the methadone clinics... what if you just don't show up on certain days? Say you have a way to acquire your dose from an alternative method to the clinic, will they wonder what your deal is and will it present an issue? Obviously they might assume you are using on the days you don't show and drug test, but if you pass is there any other issues? I just figure if you can manage to dose yourself once in a while you can set it up to go on vacations and such. But, would that then be a reason the clinic might withhold giving additional take homes?

I think it would mess with your take homes if you were eligible. Not really sure though because me or the people I knew never missed a dose very often.

You can't just not show up random days. That's a huge no-no. You'll loose your take homes, and if you keep doing it, get an administrative detox AKA kicked the fuck out.

at my clinic the doctor is only in on mondays and if you are a new patient you have to see him every week. you also ge tested weekly when you are a new patient. my clinic expects you to fail until they find that perfect dose that makes you feel 100%. they started me at 30mg and raised my dose by 5mg every day or two. i am now at 50mg and while i keeps the withdrawals away i still find myself using every few days...which, again, is what they expect. i am guessing when i get up to 65-70mg i will be at a dose that keeps me from getting sick but also keeps the cravings away.

it is a bitch waking up every morning and going but i was already doing that with dope anyway. atleast now i know i can go somewhere every morning, get counseling if i need it and know i wont be sick no matter what happens. i just have to pay them their weekly fee (an amount i could easily spend on dope in a day).

my clinic is pretty lenient as far as drug tests go. i have taken (and failed) 3 (just took another today) i have failed all of them for opiates, benzos, and weed. I am hoping the one i took today will be free of benzos since it has been a little over a week since i have taken one. the doctor has just looked at my tests and told me "keep trying we will find he right dose for you".


from my 3 weeks at the clinic i definitely feel like this was the right move. even if i am still using a bit i am slowly getting confidence back and saving money. if you are strung out and truly sick of using then methadone couldn't hurt to try. my doctor is more impressed with me waking up every morning and coming and staying committed to the program than he is with a clean urine screen. my clinic truly seems to care about its people/patients.


like some others i have also been on suboxone with no luck. suboxone just wasnt for me and getting a script and having the freedom to either take it daily or sell it for dope was too much for me. i also like the routine and structure getting up and going to the clinic gives you.
