Maybe you guys can give those of us that don't go to a clinic (like myself) an idea of how it works. Can you just show up? Do they drug test you right away? Will you get a dose the first time you go? How do they determine your dose? Can you use health insurance and do you need it?
If anyone can answer questions like that and give any other info I think it will help people that are thinking of going this route. Might even help some people that are on the fence to decide.
At my clinic, you have to call and set up an appointment to see the doctor. This takes maybe two weeks of waiting for your appointment.
There's no intake fee for new patients, but I know other places charge to take new patients in.
They drug test you during your appointment to make sure you are using opiates. It's a 14 panel test that's later confirmed by GC/MS.
The doctor determines your dose based on how much you are using, but it's normally 20mg at my clinic. You get to dose the first time you are at the clinic.
You are expected to pay upfront and it's $12 for methadone and $15 for bupe. Insurance can reimburse you, but I've heard of some people that say that they needed prior approval before insurance will cover it.
The only part I hate is going there everyday until you get takehomes. Which require things like clean drug screens. You are tested randomly at least once a month. They hate benzos, so don't use them unless you have a script.
It really surprised me at how much dignity and respect that everyone gives you. Oh yea, you are given a personal counselor too. You aren't forced to have sessions or anything like that. Anyways, the employees just treat everyone how they should be treated and they know that addiction is a disease.
I have an old counselor who loves to talk about getting pussy to me. Which is hilarious and sick at the same time. He's also a former alcoholic, so he knows the struggle.
