>>Ebola! : Hey, I do not know what it is, but the second half of tsunami sounds downright awesome to me! You have to finish this stuff and let me hear it that suspense region is fcuking great!!! I think it needs some NASTY synths to it, like fading layers of razorsharp synths... The samples sound a bit unfinished and bleak.. may be more samples or something i dunno, but the feel is awesome! What software do you use? I seriously want to hear this finished!>>

Thanks, man.
Yeah...I made that song a while ago, and my computer's been through a format since...dunno if I could bring it back to life from the backup. Yeah, some sharp synths might do the trick...but I'll need to be careful to get it all to gel.

That was made on fruity loops, actually.
A lot of the samples came from a haujobb sample cd (matrix remixes, disc b), and I ran effects on those.
I also used a freeware FM synthesizer and a freeware analog oscilator synth (called itself 404...whatever).
Also, I used a software granular synthesizer to do some of the odder effects.
And, this program called "xrazor" to do some beat chopping.
And, cool edit pro...for sample manipulation.

^^^ hey man, if you actually dig up the flp and the samples, could you send those to me? I had this track circulating in my playlist today and I am seriously itching to lay my hands on it an mess with it :) Hope its cool with you!

skjalff

yeah...that'd be fine.
the only rub is that I'm on dial-up...so that is probably more time and hassle than I'd be willing to deal with...I'll think about how i can work this out though.

hey guys. can you help me out?

ableton live 4 question.

ok. for using live to beat mix for djing, do you have to manually go in and set warp/loop points for every bar on a wav being run for the first time in order to keep the track from going out of sync with another when mixing or is it possible to just adjust the pitch on the fly using a midi controller like a turntable pitch adjustment instead ?

thanks

i've sent you a PM about this, but j.i.c

well....

actually, you can do both.

the WARP LOOP POINTS simply provide LIVE with
the hit marks for every beat.

you do NOT have to do them every 4 beats... since
the space between each beat is mathematically
even in most cases (unless it was recorded from
vinyl), you can set loop points after every 16th beat
or 32nd beat... or even 64th beat...

i hope this make sense, but you can start off with
your first set of loop markings between beat 1 and,
say, beat 128. Live places hit points at quarter count
(1 2 3 4) or even 8th count (1 AND 2 AND 3 AND 4 AND)
and even down to every 16th count (1 E AND UH
2 E AND UH 3 E AND UH 4 E AND UH) if you set it to do
so.

You can check to see if the hit marks are hitting properly
and add hit points as you need to ...

now, this is NOT the same as setting a tempo.

Obviously, it will provide the tempo of the original. but
thats all the warp/loop marks are doing.

Once these markings are there, yes, you can control the
tempo using an outside MIDI controller by doing exactly
what you said: assign a midi controller slider/knob to
the tempo. the only problem is the min/max of the MIDI
controller knob/slider will be set to the min/max of LIVE's
tempo... I am unsure if you can set a range for the tempo.
I think you can somewhere in preferences.... i know that's
where it is in ACID.

because i had always either had TRAKTOR, cdjs, or turntables,
i never really experimented with using LIVE like one would
use Traktor...

I know there are people who can make custom midi
devices. And I know several people who have made
custom MIDI slider that looks like a Technics 1200 MKII
pitch adjust slider... but how they have their preferences
set in LIVE i dunno. I'm assuming, since it usually costs
someone $4-500 to get a custom MIDI controller made
that there is a way to prevent an accidental over-pushing
of the knob controlling the pitch from all-of-a-sudden
sending your track to 250 BPMs..

Did all of this make sense?

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hey guys,

I am planning to get at least 4 confident tracks ready by end of January to send out alongside a dj mix, so I will be posting quite regularly for feedback on my tracks, and there is no where else I would prefer to get information than here so thanks

This track I begun only today. The structure of the track is done but as this is only the ground of the production so far I will be adding many more sounds to livin it up. I would like to know what you guys think about the feel of the track.

The two links below are the same track but one with an added vocal/synth and the other without it. I would like to know which sits better. The track is basically done but I am deciding on do I still need to add another pad or synth or leave it.

planning on releasing this on my new independent label. hit me PM style if you are interested in remixing for the flip. Reason will be required.

if you use this in a mix: Aural Assassin - The Army of The 12 Monkeys(original)[unsigned]

enjoy!

because all of my sound files, and other associated files are reason extensions... however, if you PM me your address, I can send you a "demo" of reason ;)

no, i have reason, i just wondered why it was
required... if someone didn't want to use it,
however, you could send them the MIDI files...

do you know how to do that?

This is a fusion of progressive and tech breaks...involving layers of percussion, tech-noise, and several basslines/synths...lots of automation and shifty-ness to the effects layers...could be at home with a progressive dj or a breaks dj...was hoping to create layers of funk as well as melodicness and combine them with some fun tech-sounds i twisted/morphed/messed with in ableton to make them my own...

now that we have 2 computers setup in the studio, its very nice, as we can both simultaneously work on different parts of the track, and really get deep into the layers to make them unique

hope you all enjoy this one...let us know what you think

nice track. i like the atmosphiric feeling to it. the percussion is good too. recording seems a little cloudy, but maybe thats just the mp3 compression...
