Holdin' it down for Washington -eclectic producer RainMan

Y'all may know me as inrvizion but I go by RainMan, my real name is Russell Charles Babbitt and I'm an aspiring producer from the Seattle area. Get it, RainMan, Charlie Babbitt, me= Russell Charles Babbitt, and the Seattle rain makes a good analogy. I mostly produce hip hop but it's definitely highly eclectic shit, from backpackers, to whackrappers, I think most of y'all will feel my beats... so

andythetwig, thanks for the feedback, i'm listenin to Bleeps & Whirrs - Big Bottom right now. Check out my two sites again, more songs, diff stuff and diff website names.

I dunno, in your song, I dig the drum beat, but thats about it, the acid bass/harmony that dominates the track could be replaced with something better I feel, something less electronic sounding. just my thoughts

Again, Ximot, I really dig your stuff. Reminds me of afx a bit. I'm downloading all your stuff right now. Its like you take electronic sounds that sound really cool and just mess with them/loop. Hard for me to describe, but I just really dig it.

Hey DJAcetone, Your song Higher Learning, the two bars in the beginning with just the drum beat, bass, and i think MLK speaking, I would just loop that, Thats a dope beat. The bass in the beginning is DOPE! I dont like when the harmony kicks in, I would make the track darker or "tougher sounding." If you don't mind, I'd like to remix it, get a high quality version of the song. possibly without MLK speaking, just the beat and bass.

Disco science is a pretty fun track. I'd totally drop that beat if I was spinnin a slow acid set. Def dig it, sounds a bit amateur but I like it like that.

The other two I didn't care for the strawberry song and amphetamine song.

master_hairahcaz, I like your artwork on your page better than your music. Twisted sample from seven

Well, here are my first attempts at production. Track 1 feels more complete than 2 but they both are still definitely missing something in my opinion.

I still haven't worked out how to use vst effects yet, so my skills are fairly primitive but any advice, suggestions are all greatly appreciated. I will of course return the same if you've got stuff up :)

Track02

I made a breaks remix of shiney disco balls. it's on my myspace page at myspace.com/jimmyenergy tell me what you think

rock lobster i really look forwards to hearing some of your stuff - will check it out when i get a quiet moment at work (note the optimistic 'when' ;)).

i've put a new psytrance track up on my website, the first one i'm happy with since finishing the album. a lot of the leads were initially played on guitar or electric violin... it's the first psy track i've composed in Ableton 5 and it definitely represents a new direction for me. any thoughts, criticisms, rants etc. appreciated :)

Rock Lobster | Track01

this has a nice ambience about it. there's definitely something of the oldskool about the pads. i like the low fat synth, and the rising wah-like pads at 1:30. considering you're relatively new to production the sounds are really well defined; not too busy in the mix, with a nice sense of sonic space. this is really important.

it's always difficult to distinguish levels when dealing with compressed files - but it sounds like the kick could do with more sub presence. i'm not sure tho i'd have to hear a full-qual version through my monitors!

melodically i like it, it expresses musical ideas without unnecessary ornamentation. helps give it the space i was talking about before.

the percussive work could do with some more variation... i think it would still be in keeping with the feeling of the track and would help the progression of the overall piece. to an extent the natural hi-tom drum loop that comes in at around 5:00 helps but if it were up to me i'd try to get some more intricate and varied drum patterns in there to tighten up the focus of the track.

overall tis very impressive! more chill than i expected and really nicely put together - you have a good ear for balance in a track i think.
