Your favourite obscure film (that nobody else has even seen)

really? I checked HMV, a couple of online retailers and my local blockbuster & video ezy without luck
Sorry, didn't realize you lived in another country. :(

The Beast of War. In the US it's just called "The Beast".

Not my favourite, but one of them. Set in Afghanistan in the 1980's during the Soviet occupation. A Soviet tank destroys a village, and crushes to death one of the elders, so a bunch of the younger Mujahedeen from the village chase the tank and it's crew across the country to get revenge. Great film...

An old forgotten classic film is howard hawks' "His Girl Friday" from 1940 - one of the best comedies I've ever seen.
As for new indies, I really enjoyed Richard Linklater's "Tape" and "Waking Life". Then something weird happened and he made "School of Rock"...

^ I LOVE His Girl Friday -- great, fast-paced film. The actors definitely have a lot of chemistry.

My friend forced me recently to watch one of his favorite movies, Repo Man, and I have to admit it's nothing like I thought it would be (Emilio Estevez + 80s usually doesn't = cool).

It turned out to be a really good punk-rock indie flick with GREAT music. I'd definitely recommend it.

"Niagara Niagara" wasnt my fav movie of all time but it shure is up there though.
I saw it late one night at around 3 in the morning I think?
The girl's character who has tourettes just goes off.
Cant explain this movie, you just have to watch it.

The Man Who Cried

i just recently watched this movie again, and i love it. Its fantastic because of the cinematography, the story, the acting, directing, just everything! :)

however i can pin point what i love most about it, and that is the way that the orchestral soundtrack perfectly compliments the minimal dialogue and gives the film such deep, reflective, artistic value which is so often lacking in the cinema these days.

Obscure Film Recommendation

"Love The Hard Way"

Starring: Adrien Brody

This movie I thought was incredible. If you like Adrien Brody, his acting in it is 4 stars hands down.

Worth renting if you happen to drop by the video store tonight.

An officer and a Gentleman
Starring : richard Gere

If you only know the ending of this movie due to a Simpsons episode...YOU"RE MISSING A LOT!!!!!!!!

Alexjandro Jodoworsky. If you don't know, better get to know.

El topo
The Holy Mountain
Sante Sangre

At least Repo Man, They Live and Waking Life have already been listed...I'd also recommend...
Rosencrantz and Guildernstern Are Dead (Stoppard wrote the screenplay and expands upon his original theatrical script - Oldman and Roth are perfect)
Naked Lunch (my favourite Cronenberg, but also check out Crash, Videodrome, Existenz etc.)
The Party (Peter Sellers at his best)
Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
Le Grande Bouffe
Cyrano De Bergerac (Depardieu version)
Meet The Feebles (who says LOTR is his best work to date - also check our Braindead)
The Keep (Tangerine Dream soundtrack and Jurgen Prochnow - Miracle Mile is also another 'better than expected' film with a great TD soundtrack)
Hedwig and The Angry Inch (my favourite musical of recent years)
Dark Star (Carpenter launches his career - already mentioned They Live and his remake of The Thing is another classic))
Brazil (Gilliam is an unlucky and underated director - Time Bandits and 12 Monkeys have already been listed previously - his recent Fear & Loathing is also worth a look - maybe checkout the docudrama Lost in La Mancha too)
What Dreams May Come (schmaltzy but visually amazing - watch this next time you're coming down)
Hamlet (only Branaghs version is worth your time - why has this not been released on DVD? - even if you learnt to hate the Bard at school, check out Branagh's Much Ado and Henry V as well)
Flash Gordon (the 80's remake with the Queen soundtrack)
The Machinist (Bale makes the film - you can't take your eyes off of his skeletal frame)
