You Right Now.......

My friend just dropped off a box of ondansetron and ice packs. She is a star. So i can have some pain relief without vomiting everywhere. I have never got nauseous from oxy before and i didn't have a heap either so its quite strange. Swelling has gone down a bit but knee is well fucked. Have to give my ticket away to Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds next Sunday night. No way could i do the gig on crutches. This knee has fucked so many things all from a little stumble. I think i will go take some drugs and go lay down.

OMG consume that's horrible. Get better mate. Glad to hear you've got some relief.

I adulted before 11 am. Shift work makes mornings a bitch. Even got my new pc ordered. My last pc died a painful but sudden death by power cable. Didn't even know that was possible. Killed my power supply and motherboard all because of the power cable. How did you find this out you may ask...... It blew out the power supply and motherboard on a different brand new pc ( wasn't mine this time) arseguzzler!!!

^

You should buy a UPS/Surge protector.

I'm literally camped in front of a Thai company's office with a bale of documents I need signed ready for whenever the head honcho shows.

A bit stoned, but whatever.

Nah nah, it was the cable that connects the computer to a socket. It was the cable itself that was fucked. It worked fine on both pcs. Then just fried one night killing my power supply and motherboard in one swoop. Took the pc over to someone else to have a look and the power cables got mixed up, they connected it to theirs and it blew their power supply and motherboard too. :\

In a kind of awkward limbo in my new job where I'm not really sure what I should be doing a lot of the time, and everyone seems too busy to ask. I don't <i>think</i> I'm supposed to be doing any customer facing stuff just yet, based on what i have been shown so far, and the fact that I don't have full password access to everything yet. But apart from the occasional testing task I get asked to do I spend a good amount of time aimlessly exploring company databases or doing 'internet research' on more official looking websites and hope that nobody scrutinises what is actually on my screen in too much detail. One time I sort of suggested to a collegue that I don't really know what to do at this particular moment and he suggested just doing relevant online reading, but I can only spend so much time googling SQL statements before I get into SQL injection (malicious hacking) and I kind of feel having that up on one monitor and the companies database management software up on the other monitor looks a bit suspicious!

I'm fairly sure there isn't anything I'm supposed to be getting on with, but i'm not sure how much longer I can spend trying to look busy before it becomes even more awkward to ask my manager!

I mean, if I am indeed getting paid to fanny about on a computer until someone has time to finish training me, then that sounds good to me. I just wish I was absolutely sure that was the case, and I can't think of a tactful way to ask!

I know how awkward that sort of office situation can be - just sell yourself as trying to use the time for your colleagues or your employer (using suggestions such as stated by Jackal) to demonstrate your motivation and show that your not too quick to start following your own agenda. It's a good way to start sussing them as well - their level of willingness to engage with you in this sort of way may start showing you early signs if how supportive they will be. Just try and get the fact across to them that your paying close attention to what they are doing and how they are working.

Any type of office job really begins like that ordinary mind. You won't be expected to do much, presuming you've started as office junior. It's the test phase IE are you worth investing time and money in to be given the relevant training.

Go with the flow as suggested make yourself useful. Show initiative. There are always the jobs everyone hates IE data input, general filing. Ask if anyone needs any such help. Tea and coffee maker always a good one.

What ever you do don't use a computer for anything that is not relevant to the job. You won't know who is checking.

First place I'd consider to look is your job description. This should of been outlined clearly during your induction and during the offer process listing key tasks and other duties given to you by the employer. If you haven't yet been given training or induction that's not your fault. Simply make your relevant manager aware how keen you are to get cracking. If they see your keen they will invest their time.

If you don't have job description = happy days as how will they ever monitor your performance and form any basis for appraisal. Get past 6 months without one and your on easy street, that's of course if your contract of employment is formal offer and your not simply on a temporary or through an agency, but you should still have a job description and training provided.

Enjoy the quiet before the storm. I'll give it 6 months before your telling us how busy you are. Otherwise let me know who they are as I'll be applying for your job bro.

Cheers for the advice guys. I do definitely try and get involved where possible, and I'm pretty sure I'll get a reasonable amount of responsibilities after a bit more time (only been there just over a week). But today was taking the piss a bit! I spent 9:00 till 9:30 finishing off something from the day before, asked the guy who gave me the job if there was another course to test as I knew there were a few, but he was like "nah it's cool I want to do these ones". So then I pretty much ended up twiddling my thumbs (metaphorically.... mostly) until after lunch at which point I switched my broken chair with one that someone found for me downstairs (probably the highlight of the day), twiddled my thumbs some more until about half 2 when I was tasked with testing a captcha that had been added to a website, which as you can probably imagine took about five minutes, twiddled my thumbs some more until about half 4 at which point a co-worker summoned me over to show me how to do something that occasionally needs done (which I guess is a step in the right direction), then twiddled my thumbs for another 45 minutes until half 5. And that was my day...

So probably about an hour total worth of actually doing something worthwhile during the 9 and a half hours I was there! Never thought I'd be complaining about not having enough work to do, but seriously!!! :p

Sorry to hear your woes consumer. Have you had previous injuries to the knee?
I hurt it about 15 years ago snow boarding but this is not related to that. Around my age your meniscus becomes dessicated and is prone to tears. Its just one of those things. Far worse things happen to people its just really shit timing. The swelling has gone down and been replaced with the mother of all bruises. I can put a little weight on it today which is a good sign.

A friend is dropping around a pile of pre prepared thai meals (she's thai and a caterer) so i dont have to cook. I think i am just going to sit back, take a combination of prescribed and illicit chemicals and watch netflix.

Currently after an amp binge, with a full day of work ahead and no sleep in sight

Sorry to hear about your knee consumer. Sucks that it happened now just after u quit your job and everything :(

Where to in Europe qere u heading?

Norway, Italy and Germany were the first on the agenda first then where ever the winds of travel carried me.

Shit timing. More because of the travel not the job. I dont give a shit about that as i am not going to starve. I am thinking about renting my place out and moving in with my mum while i recover so i still have a good income coming in but i will wait till i have an MRI before making any decisions.

Shithouse yes but as i said much worse things happen to people.

Having a small amount of oxy (10mg) a few lines of coke and a glass or three of Margaret River Chardy watching the cricket. Doing injured in style.

As we always do BL so no offence intended and sure you got it in hand BUT when you first came on BL coke use you stated was a handful of times year special occasions. From postings bro your now weekly and some cases daily. Very easy with a good pile of the white lady. X

Feeling pretty gratified that I spent a bunch of time fixing a minor brake issue on my bike this morning; huge fuck off dog bolted in front of me at high speed. Got the back wheel off the ground for around a bike length, and the dog trotted stupidly past, unaware or uncaring for his Celtic guardian angel. If I hadn't changed that lever I would have hit it.

No adrenaline shock either, just "öh" and on down the road like a right cunt. Burned 5L of petrol in 25 minutes, ran out at the door of the house.

Now a K-pin, spliff and a beer before dinner.

Yes coke use has certainly increased since i left the hospital for a largely paperwork job. But point taken. When this lot runs out i will put the brakes on, especially if i rent my house out and move back in with mum for a while. I think she wants the company now dads gone. I will be able to get $1200 week for the house easy so it would be the smart financial decision and good for mum...and me. I love the old girl.

But increased charlie use noted.
