you know how SSRIs help people who may have serotonin deficiencies? can opioids help.

That statement is pretty flawed. I'm don't even know where to begin.

edit: damn, you guys post quick, lol

Enoughorangejuice? I've only ever taken weak opioids - except for when I was shot-up in hospital - I get stimulated too. From a high dose of dihydrocodeine I became hyper-talkative, full of energy, I had more strength and stamina, I could think clearer etc. I didn't realise this isn't how everyone feels? Really?

I had a friend who acted like he was on speed every time we did heroin together.

But honestly man its not like all of us that may be genetically predisposed as you say and have struggled with heroin addiction all get energetic from dope.

Opiates gives me euphoria and sedation, i don't find anything energetic about them, i love them because they allow me to relax.

I don't think there is any correlation between this so called genetic predisposition and becoming stimulated by opiates.

I feel as if I get that "energetic feeling" when I score..my first doses, the first day ...then if I have enough, the feeling seems to deminish..and the nod takes over....and opiates have been hard to come by in my area. So, maybe I just get super excited when they come around.

Theres no medical evidence to links any biological or mental factor to addiction. Some personality types and behaviors associated with these types show correlation with drug addiction, but also correlation with numerous other behaviors. As for psychological reactions to drugs, I don't think that holds any weight in predisposing individuals to certain drug addictions. Everyone reacts differently to drugs due to numerous biological and neurological differences. Interestingly enough, there is no conclusive research that can explain why certain individuals or personality types are addicted to one drug instead of another. Studies involving cocaine and heroin addicts that speedball produces two different accounts from these individuals. Addicts that prefer heroin, say that the cocaine gets them a bit up and energized when the heroin brings them down too far. Cocaine addicts on the other hand say that heroin mellows them out a bit when they are feeling too much on edge. The goal I guess is to really understand addiction on a biological and psychological level, understanding why individuals become addicted and what to do to combat it.... Just my thoughts on the matter....

I do tend to get stimulated a bit from opiates definately. I get very talkative and get the urge to walk around - in between nods of course - much the same as I do with alcohol. And every time I do them I can tell how easy it would be for me to become an addict, so I space my usage out to have a few days/weeks in between binging for a couple of days. So I could definately see that as being a possiblity...

I also have ADHD and adderall/dex has always calmed me down and made me very focused, soft-spoken and mild (now meth is a different story). I think I'm just the type of person who is predisposed to find pleasure in altered states of mind in general.

Excuse me if I am wrong and please correct me. When you take opiates it releases seritonin the endorphin that causes pleasure and also proven to motivate you in every day life... So after chronic or habitual use Isnt the opiate needed just to get out of bed in the morning

right now because of my chronic pain yes i do need it to get out of bed but even at my 80mg a day i can go a day or two without serious withdrawl symptoms im just in a little bit more pain that what im accustomed to . thats the difference between phsyical dependence and mental dependance . which has been very hard for me to keep under control given my past opiate experiences . its nice to actually feel like i have some control .

it's amazing how one little pill can make you feel SO much better when you are sick/withdrawing. just 1 hour ago i was in 28+ hours deep with no opiates. i took a drive up to my connect for methadone/suboxone and he wasn't answering the door, which made my withdrawals twice as bad. luckily, i had called ahead to my other connect for dope and told him to meet me at my methadone connects house. well finally my connect answers the door and i waited 10 minutes for my dope connect (dope over methadone, c'mon) and he didn't show so i bought 20mg's methadone for $X (northeast, boston area). i took the methadone instantly, it's the wierd feeling you get when you know you are going to be OK, as soon as i swallowed the pills i was feeling alot better. now about an hour later my dope connect calls saying WTF but i really don't give a shit because the methadone just kicked in and i'm feeling 'normal' again with a nice little buzz.

then i get to do it all over again tomorrow.

so sick and tired of being sick and tired.

seems like an excuse to get high kinda like the theory that obesity is genetical (also a scam IMO to make obese people feel better)

^^i agree. although opiates make me EXTREMELY motivated and energetic i don't buy into the predisposed genetic bullshit...whether it's alcohol opiates or crack. when it comes down to it using whatever your drug of choice is a decision. When I choose to shoot dope it's my choice....it may be hard for me to control my decisions but I still have control whether or not i want to take responsibility for my actions. It might be harder for me to turn it down but it's still my choice regardless of genetic predisposition.

I don't buy into the whole genetic predisposition bullshit attitude towards addiction. Using drugs is your choice. there are plenty of people who have this gene (if it even exists) who don't ever use opiates or any drug.

if you think you have this predisposition its more of a reason to not do drugs than it is an excuse to use all you want.

this is very interesting.....i'd like to see if theres any research on this out there. I used to get stimulated and motivated on oxy but now i just get mellowed out and anxiety goes away. If you think about it, theres a mental aspect that comes into play when your expirimenting with a substance and one needs to make a decision about using again. Thats where the critical moment about your feelilngs etc make you use or not to use. I guess it makes a little sense....still love to see some supporting info.

That made me laugh, I' will feel like I'm dieing and as soon as I get my meds from the pharmacy, I get in my car and eat 3 of them, and as soon as I swallow I feel totally allright..
I even laugh at myself sometimes and say man what a feiner HAHA,LOL=D
A few times I've already felt better just knowing that I have them in my hand

I'm not an opioid addict anymore, but whenever I'm doing a CWE on some sweet codeine, as I'm filtering it's almost like I can feel my brain kicking into opioid mode, like it's preparing for the endorphin release that's soon to come...

Back on to the main topic of what was originally said: I find it hard to believe that only 10% of people experience euphoria from opiates. I'm not talking about the stimulation/sedation factor here, just the aspects of dysphoria/euphoria. I'd probably say that 10% of people don't experience euphoria.

Actually I find it hard to believe that a doctor would say that--especially one specializing in opiate addiction. Sorry if this has already been said, I couldn't be arsed reading through some of the above posts.

In any drug/pharmaceutical text book (mainly thinking of mims here in Australia), both abuse and euphoria are listed as 'adverse reactions' and for this to occur, such reactions have to achieve statistical significance in clinical trials. In other words, 10% or below is not enough to achieve said significance and thus, would be considered rare.
