opiates stimulating for you? you may genetically predisposed to be an opioid addict!

i always wondered why high doses (or any dose really) of opiates made me stimulated, energetic, etc, like a CNS stimulant, and not like a downer at all. of course ill nod with ridiculously high doses or if mixed with alcohol, benzos, diphen, z-drugs, etc... ill get a little tired but opiates always give me a lot of motivation and energy, and i never really thought about it any further than that. until my last doctor visit. (suboxone doctor). he told me that he takes percocet daily for pain and gets dysphoric and tired and doesn't enjoy taking it and said that 90% of the population has that (or similar) reaction to opiates, dysphoria, nausea, sedation, and do not like it, and the other 10% get euphoria, energy, and love it, and those 10% most likely are genetically predisoposed to be opiate addicts.

i know many girls who have tried opiates and hate them (usually state nausea and sleepiness as side effects that out-weighed the little or no euphoria), so i figured maybe it was a male/female thing, but it isn't (at least i dont think so anymore). its all about your genetics...which makes sense, because getting stimulated from opiates shows you're predisposed to be one is similar IMO to how people who really have ADD/ADHD get calm/relaxed instead of speedy/jittery when they take ritalin/focalin/adderall/dexedrine.

I'm the same way. I hardly ever nod, regardless of the dose. Hell, I'll OD before I nod.

I don't think that means you're predisposed for addiction though. IME, most addicts consistently nod out from dope(or whatever opiate they're on).

has it been scientifically proven and researched that this is genetic or is it just your personal opinion? because that makes a huge difference..
seems like an excuse to get high kinda like the theory that obesity is genetical (also a scam IMO to make obese people feel better)

i get a nod off of mine, no matter which opiate. i can tell the differences that oc is "speedier" than hydro, etc.... but i don't consider any of them speedy, since i nod like hell most of the time. however, i can be productive on them as well..... and i am so so hopelessly addicted. i think your theory needs to be tested a bit more

True, genetic predispositions can be used to prove anything. Chronic masturbator? You may have a defective chromosome. Suffering emotional depression? Kill yourself. You can't fix DNA. Just plain boring to be around? Hell man, it's your genetics and shit lol. But I digress.

I think I've heard a similar theory explaining why people become alcoholics too.

this isnt the first time ive heard what the OP is saying

i personally get very stimulated from opiates and very rarely nod or feel sedated or lazy. and i have to fight like a fucking beast not to get addicted to opiates, as i have done before

i agree with OP however i think "scentifically tested" or whatnot is a stretch

its the way our system works now.. if youve got a "problem" you dont go to jail but rather rehab along with the sympathy of your judge and family..
responsibility is constantly getting lifted off our shoulders and the easy way is now to swallow the vicodin, go to AA because god has punished us with alcoholism, and gulp down the burgers to fix that uncomfortable feeling life gives you when youre unable to jumpstart it. Becomes a serie of fixes and you have just given us an example of a fix to the fix (an excuse to getting high)

time to live up to our actions

^ it's not MY theory, my doctor (who's been practicing medicine for over 40 years, and knows his shit) told me. a genetic predisposition doesn't mean you're gonna be a junkie it just means your body is setup in a way that will make opiates feel a lot differently (much better) than it will for 90% of the population. he told me that if you take 100 people of the street at random, give them all pain meds, only 10% will get the euphoric, stimulating effects and those are the ones who are predisposed. next time i see him (in three days) ill ask him where he heard about this and if it has been proven.

Its just people trying to make excuses.

How long until we find the meth gene? I'm tired and unmotivated a lot, perhaps I'm predisposed to tweak my brain out?

I'd like to see (and pick apart) the studies about this, if any even exist. They probably don't, because not many medical organizations want to make heroin (or any opiate use) seem OK, like they it was their destiny to junkies and they couldn't help it.

^ it has nothing to do with destiny or an excuse for people who are addicts, it just simply saying that certain people have different reactions than most people do to opiates... and because of that reaction (stimulation and euphoria instead of sedation and dysphoria) people are more likely to be opiate addicts. and they react the way they do to the opiates and get stimulated because of how their body is made up genetically. it's not an excuse for opiate addicts at all... thats not the point.

Well I don't know about the scientific part of it all but,
Most of my friends don't like opiates because it makes them drowsey.
Me I love them cause I wake up in the morning and take my doses and
I'm ready to put in a full days work. On the other hand when its time
to go to bed ,I have a hella time trying to get to sleep

Well we all know this; it applies for every drug (or every THING, for that matter).
Surely if person A takes morphine, and feels no euphoria, he will be less inclined to repeat that behavior than person B, who takes morphine and feels incredible euphoria.

So I guess you could say I have friends who are predisposed to sushi, because they like the taste, and thus have become addicts; they eat it all the time. I , on the other hand, don't like the taste, and fortunately avoided sushi addiction, thus I never eat it.

Don't believe everything that you breathe ;)

acutally i have read in psych journals, online obviously, that meth/speed addicts may or may not be predisposed to use it because of unnaturally low levels of epinephrine(thats adrenaline to all you non americans). its a fairly excepted theory these days in the field, just like the 'alcoholism' genes.
i think its a combination of truth and an excuse.

obviously i get the analogy, tho.

worst analogy ever

Im fairly experienced when it comes to opiates however each and everyone ive tried has always has a downer experience for me . each one had that warm euphoric opiate blanket covering me with each experience . i dont find any sort of stimulating effect to them . yet ive been an opiate fan (addict to some others ...) for almost 3 years now . so that may disprove your hypothesis.

even when i take my oxycontin doses in the morning and the evening i notice i can move around and do stuff but its not what id call stimulating . more or less just walking around with a nod goin on . if im doing errands or paying bills or playing video games or lying in bed i can always feel the opiate working but i dont go out and do a hundred things with great motivation. sometimes however i notice a slight feeling between being clear headed yet opiated at the same time ... that might be what your going for or i might just be misinterpreting what your trying to say .

Excuse me if I am wrong and please correct me. When you take opiates it releases seritonin the endorphin that causes pleasure and also proven to motivate you in every day life... So after chronic or habitual use Isnt the opiate needed just to get out of bed in the morning

well my parents are drug addicts my dad was abusing the shit out of his oxy and tincture of opium

your wrong endorphins are the bodys natural pain reliever umm endorphins arn't a class of chemicals serotonin is in your brain have you ever heard of ssris? selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors?
