Alcohol Why is Alcohol more popular as a drug as opposed to benzos like Xanax?

Keif summed it up perfectly… Although I’ve never really understood the hype around alcohol. I’ve maybe been drunk five times in my life. I have to force myself to finish a beer, lol. The euphoria is alright, I guess, but for me, benzos are the crème de la crème (hence my username).

On the rare occasion I go out to a bar with friends, I’ll take a moderate dose of bromazolam, etc, because I much prefer the lucidity over the euphoric high alcohol provides. Plus, it’s a lot cheaper than buying drinks, and I can still drive (as long as I stick to a responsible dose and don’t go overboard).

But yeah, I suppose the popularity of alcohol comes down to it being universally accepted and easily accessible.

Fermented fruits can get you drunk. Some animals have even discovered this. In Medieval Europe, beer was the drink of choice over water due to it being safer and having food value. Food value which lasted over the winter, "liquid bread". You had "small beer" with lower alcohol for children. Our culture has grown up with alcohol pretty much from the caveman days. I'm assuming that developing the enzyme to metabolize alcohol was thus an evolutionary thing.

Animals get drunk.
Seen it Elephants little Monkeys. Stumbling or falling clearly intoxicated.
Wonder how quick without abundend Alcohol de hydrogenase.
Sure they get severe hangovers like some Asiatic s and my Mom.

Still we developed a gene enabling more Alcohol consumption,
most species miss. Goal surviving winter.

Result our current Alcohol addiction problem.

What i don t get GHB or Temazepam or something alike,
less toxic has replaced it. In developed country s by now.
All other Benzo s i know never came close Btw.

Nor Kava Kava, but thats illegal so never had the good kind.

Why alcohol?
All the reasons previously mentioned, plus it comes in an infinite variety of flavors. No matter what your tastes may be, there's something with alcohol in it that you will like.

Oh, and if you're like me you will be genetically predisposed to enjoy that feeling (and the taste) a bit too much. Remember that humans have been consuming alcohol for tens of thousands of years-- maybe longer That's a long time for genes to adapt (or maladapt) to a substance that has remained the same. With some other drugs, I had to develop a liking over time. With alcohol, I absolutely loved it immediately. Something deep inside me craved that shit.

You need a doc script or else you go to jail and they like to tag you with "distribution" too.
yeah so! i got a script and that doesn't make them illegal! only taking them without a script is illegal, but they ARE NOT illegal. just wish they worked on my pain!

By this logic, virtually every popular drug is legal, including heroin and methamphetamine

didn't read this thread, but oral fixation is a big part of alcohol.

also it's not just sold at stores... but people will always love to just sit and drink... not the style of all druggies, but a lot of people are into something that will keep them entertained by having to keep drinking.. people get satisfied by the taste too... nice cold beer. lol. some mixed drinks.

I am not going to read all the answers right now because I already know: It is what everyone wants, LOL. We tried to make it illegal and that did not go well.

jeez your stupid claiming a drug produced and legalized by the GOV is illegal. wait gulping battery liquid.... nuf said🫣. why would you think opiods are illegal!!!! OMG!!!

A lot of people in the world have an addiction to alcohol but why is alcohol so much popular than benzos? Aren't they pretty much have the same effect on the body?

Or is alcohol more considered euphoric, or a party drug as opposed the benzos like Xanax?
Seriously? Not tryna be a smart-ass but I think it might have something to do with the fact that no prescription is required to buy booze and there aren't benzo stores (if only) to go and buy a few bars of Xanax. That's my guess.

And yeah, alcohol is the more euphoric drug (although that is a subjective topic for sure). Alcohol hits 6 of the 7 major neurotransmitters, whereas xanax only hits 1. Alcohol releases more dopamine than xanax, and also hits opioid receptors to kill pain.

LOL, you're making alcohol sound good. Alcohol fucking sucks.

you're logic makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. AND YES if you could get a prescription for heroin it would be legal
lol looks like you need to calm down on the benzos

you can get both heroin and methamphetamine on prescription, that's my point

I agree that alcohol is a nasty chemical.
But it affects some of us differently than others. Back in my alcoholic years, my first stiff drink of the day (often before I got out of bed) felt to me like a shot of heroin. Real heroin, not fentanyl.
