My favourite is definitely XII, followed by VIII, followed by VI.

FF VII was ok, but just that. Same goes to X.

I don't care much for anything before the sixth, although I haven't playd IV yet. The second one seemed to have lots promise but ultimately fails.

I did not like IX, and dispised X-2. I have no interest in even trying XI.

I will admit though, game aesthetics are as important to me as the gameplay itself, and that is probably why VI is not on the top of my list (that, and the esper system which I am not that hot about).

So whats the deal with video game system emulaters for pcs? I tried to dl some a few years ago but when i tried to set them up i installed them and ran the exec or run file for it and they did nothing. Is there some trick to installing and setting them up?

Also my pc is a celeron 1.4 ghz with only 512 mb ram, a notebook, does that sound fast enougth to run a ps 1 or 2 emulater?

my fav final fantsy was 7 on ps1, only one i've played so far.

My 2 favorites are FF8 and FF3. Most people either love or hate 8 with no inbetween, I personally think it may be the best RPG ever created alongside Chrono Trigger (my all time favorite)

Is it just me or did FF XII seem too short?

I racked up 90 hours on it despite not really liking it, so I don't think that it's short per se but I did find it sorely lacking in its sense of epic adventure - something that previous entries in the series possessed in abundance. The world that you traverse never felt particularly large to me, which seems to have been a conscious decision by the developers, but nevertheless a poor one in my opinion.

If you do all the hunts & stuff though there's undeniably a lot of time to be had playing it.

I am a hardfore final fantasy fan i have played every game...

First of all Final fantasy 1-9 in a completely different league than the newer final fantasties... 10 was ok but after that they all went downhill....

I dont reccomend playing 1,2, or 3 unless your hardcore fun and like oldschool rpgs...

4 and 5 are great

But Like someone else said Final Fantasy 6(3 in us), Final fantasy 7 and 8...

are all unbelievable and memorable role playing experiences....

Final fantasy tactics is also fantastic....

I have all these games on my PSP i play them all the time right now im playing FFVII and FFT ..... i love em!

EVERYONE always says VII!!!! I loved X because of the prominent female characters and I thought it was a really cute story. Then again I am a girl ;)

MyDoorsAreOpen, I actually own a couple Final Fantasy soundtracks. The music from the games is so expressive and emotional that it can be appreciated on its own.

Part 1, wish they'd make a next-gen version. Part 1 was incredible, and part 2 and 3 for the USA, great games. Part 1, part 4, part 6, and part 7, the best final fantasy games imo. :)

I felt like resurrecting this because I just started FFVII for the first time in probably 4 years.

I know a lot of people who love FFVI(3 here) more than FFVII, but I honestly never got into RPG's before FFVII. Maybe that is why I like it so much, and why I honestly felt the need to start playing it today.

I have played FFVI, and honestly, it's an incredible game and definitely the best RPG I've played besides FFVII. I perfectly understand people say this is their favorite.

I'm not really sure why I love FFVII so much. The only reason I ever played it and got into RPG's at all was because every single one of my friends was absolutely obsessed with FFVII when it came out, even people that never played RPG's! I do recall my friends who were interested in RPG's earlier to be completely engulfed by FFVI, but FFVII seemed to have no limit to whom it could influence.

I do think the story is very good, yet extremely complex. I don't know why people insist that every element of a plot must be completely understood to get any joy from it, but I had no problems accepting some gaps in the information I was given considering the fact that story was so emotionally and conceptual amazing. No game has captivated me in such a complete and involving way emotional and mentally. I just don't know why, but this game got to me in a way I didn't know video games could.

i've only ever played one ff and i didn't get very into it. someone pm me all the games and i'll make a poll.

I've played all the main ones from 7-12 except for 11, and the thing I love the best about FFVII is the materia system. You could come up with some great combos of materia you could make. (knights of the round constantly until the fight ends, anyone?)

So, I would say that the story and the materia system is what pulls me back to 7 every now and then. The other ones, I don't bust out that often, altho I still have a lil ways to go in 12 for 100% yet lol.

List of ones that matter:

Final Fantasy I
Final Fantasy II (Not released in the US)
Final Fantasy III (Not released in the US)
Final Fantasy IV (Released in the US as Final Fantasy II)
Final Fantasy V (Not released in the US)
Final Fantasy VI (Released in the US as Final Fantasy III)
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy XII
Final Fantasy Tactics

There are plenty of other final fantasy titles, but I would imagine that almost everyone's favorites will be from this list.

Final Fantasy XI (MMO)
Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced (Game Boy)

can be added to that list.

Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Kingdom Hearts
Kingdom Hearts 2
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles

are other games by Square-Enix people might like too.
