Drug legalization is a touchy subject. Outright legalization wouldn't solve all the problems people attribute to the "war on drugs," and it CERTAINLY would create a whole new set of problems to deal with.

What new problems would be created by legalization?

well i would never legalise opium based drugs, because i know how it can fuck up your life and the life of the ppl around u,even if u don't get a hardcore needle addiction it can still fuck u up on the withdrawels, and if 'we' could do opioids just once in a while it would be ok...but in the maj of cases that's not the situation.myself,my bf, and a lot of my friends got into some trouble with heroin,me not so badly but i'ved seen ppl who've been shooting for 4 years in withdrawel pain and how it can shatter your life, i'm not preaching even though now i'm 150-200mg tramadol a day just to cut off the sickness,it was my fault and i did it with my hand i know but eh...
on the othwer hand WHY THE FUCK should u go to jail for 5 g on green? that's just unfair and stupid, ignorant ppl who don't know the difference between a 'addicting' drug and a nice chillin herb...
other thing that in my opinion is ok is ketamine,i mean,at least in my case it never caused problems(well i am a big k fan so...)
imo fuck that legalise em all...except opiates and amphetamines(i have a strong hate for amphet's,there just shitty and not worth it,at least imo)...but on the other hand i coulden't say anything abouth meth cause i never tried it(but if i hate amphet i would hate meth too)
and about psychadelics i can't post a opinion, the only thing that i tried that comes close to a psych was salvia(well that if u don't count mdma and mda ,that are phenethylamines and have psych potential),never did lsd, dob, shrooms and don't want to,i have nothing against them there just not my piece of cake.

I support total legalization also..

I don't think someone who hasn't used is going to run out and start using something.. just because it's legal!

I totally agree. Obviously drugs have some harmfull consequences (as do most thing in life) but Prohibition isn't the answer. Prohibition causes more harm to the user than the drugs themselves.

I would like to know what 'new problems' you think it would cause? Certainly drugs can cause problems, such as addiction, but I've never known someone jonesing for drugs say 'oh wait, they're illegal, I better not go score', lol

And how did opiates being illegal stop them from fcking up your life?

^well that's just it, i diden't fuck up my life, just lost a few months, but some people may not be able to handle a addiction to opiates or a withdrawel, and with all the people triyng to 'escape reality' opiate addictions would be much commom
but i'm not gonna deny that u have a point there

Well, to be fair, more people certainly 'fuck up their lives' using the highly illegal varieties of heroin than rx's like vicodin and oxy's or even the raw natural opium that just about anyone can grow.

The drug war's not going anywhere though, there's just too much money being made in the prison industial complex and pharmceutical industries.

What we can do however is try to change little things one step at a time, supporting decriminalization, and lightening of sentences, and having access to healthcare for all will reduce the massive amount of profits that fuel the lobbyists that keep this nonsense going.

Bottom line, we gotta take this one step at a time...

I think I would like to have all drugs be legal except alcohol and tobacco. Actually, I would rather like these two to also be legal, but I feel they should be banned on principle alone, for a period not to exceed the period of time in which drugs remained illegal. I want the paradigm to shift for a while, ya know, tip the scales back to even. When I'm walkin' up outta 7-11 with a couple ounces of dro in my shopping sack, I want the guy caught with two packs of cigarettes to be ruminating about the injustice of the whole situation from my old cell in county. :)

I'm just joking, by the way, that situation would be the antithesis of justice! But, you see, all I did was flip-flop one single variable between the two situations, and drastically different responses are elicited. Doesn't that hint at the fact that our feelings about certain substances are massively culturally conditioned?

Bulletin people: The numbers on this poll are added up wrong!

It should look more like this:
Microsoft Excell 2007 and the actual results of those who voted said:

Do the math, according to the official results 460% of you voted!! 8o

Are you sure this is not because it is possible to choose more than one option?
I think this is saying that 332 people voted in the poll. The total when you add the votes for each option is higher than the number of voters because most people voted for several items.
Maybe I am wrong. That just seems like the most likely cause. If I remember right, it is possible to vote for multiple items.

ok I guess that does make sense, still it does mean that 52% of us do still believe the government should be able to tell us what we can or can't put into our bodies, even if its only not to smoke crack or shoot heroin, its still the drug war.. ..52% pro-drug war..

Your are completely wrong there, my friend. This was a multiple response question, which means that many people 'voted' more than once when giving there answer. What you have done is re-based the results to the total number of answer, not the total number of voters. The original results are correct.

Sorry, I work in marketing research and this is a common 1st week on the job mistake!

Yeah we already established that, but I guess market research types are nothing if not redundant. I should know I did that shit for 2 years, and my advice to get out while you still have your sanity.

legalize them all!!

not to say that all drugs are good or that all of them should be taken but I do believe that prohibition has a much more negative impact on society than the drugs it's to be protecting us from.

There is the fake documentary type movie. called "IF drugs were legal" and i liked the way it put drugs. IT was all hard drugs like cocaine and heroin were still illegal. and every other drug was legal. In order to get any of the hard drugs u had to be prescribed by a doctor. All other drugs were manufactured and sold by pharmacutical companies. ITs a really good movie with alot of interesting points.

I would leagalize all drugs, but I'd still only use opiates and weed. Speed type drugs just make me feel ill and paranoid. I woulndn't take em if they were free.
