The most memorable thing I've watched in the past few months is Dune when it came out on HBO Max for a little while. I love the book series and I feel like they did the movie so well.

"Put your hand in the box."
"What's in the box?"
"Pain."

yep. Dune was awesome. Cant wait for part two but it'll probably be the end of next year or longer...

but wasn't rooting for the contemporary-fop serial killers
Nobody did. The whole point of the movie was to show how people, even though they want the good guys to win, still want to see some of those good guys suffer and die by the antagonists of a movie to satisfy their lust for violence. That's why the violence is never directly shown in Funny Games. The director is mocking the audience and their hypocrisy and he did so in a rather brilliant way...

Cool movie, pretty typical Cronenberg.
I've always want to see this im a cronberg fan

Yesterday I watched...

Don't Look Up
Good Time
The Killing of a Sacred Deer

I enjoyed DLU quite a bit, mostly due to the cast I think. Not really my type of movie exactly but I appreciated it.

Good Time was my favorite of the three. I expected it to be because of how much I liked Uncut Gems. I really think Pattinson is a great actor as well.

TKoaSD was a bit over the top. I'd love to hear other peoples thoughts if anyone has seen it.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer... it was odd. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t “great”. Been a year or two since I watched it now. I recall being disappointed with how it ended. Didn’t enjoy it enough to view it a second time.

Like it was a well done film, maybe I missed some of the metaphorical stuff. But among odd “horror” films like that, I wouldn’t rank it high.

Edit: ah yes, I watched it because it was from the same guy who did The Lobster. I enjoyed The Lobster much more.

Do you remember the awkwardness of the dialogue throughout the film? Was that deliberate? I was thinking it must be, because Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman are too good for there to be any other explanation.

and yeah the ending was pretty stupid. I understand if it was supposed to be metaphorical it doesn't have to be exactly realistic, but it was just sooo out there ya know...

I haven't seen the lobster but I'll check it out.

I thought "Good Time" was pretty good too, although tbh I don't remember too much from it (as it was one of those films I caught on the way down into a z-drug haze)

The film seemed like an homage to earlier kinds of "gritty" suspense/thriller films of the 70s/80s like those done by Brian De Palma, Abel Ferrara etc. That was the impression I got while watching it...the drug-related subplot with the acid was fun too...an entertaining film and a good way to kill some time while passing out lol, I give it a solid 7/10

I think the awkwardness of the dialogue was intentional yeah. I think it was supposed to help create the tense atmosphere. And I think it was based off some Greek tragedy too, I can’t recall which.

But it was just an odd one. Not bad but not a winner IIRC. I did enjoy The Lobster a lot more, but be prepared for weirdness still lol

Childhood 2.0

Speaks on social media dangers for our kids (though, i do not have any).
Lots of insights for me into the why kids act the way they do, their "mores" and why the workforce is what it is. No need to go into detail att but as I suss through dox like this it gives some insights as to where we are going.
Definitively worth a watch. IMO.

that director is fun. The Lobster was a miss but The Killing of had me cracking up. difference might be watching The Lobster by myself and Killing with a good audience.

Dogtooth remains my favorite.
