Film What's the Last Film You Saw? v. Tell Us What You Thought!

I saw "Dark Skies" it was OK but not that scary as the reviews on the DVD box claimed, and I found it rather predictable. Before that I saw "The life of Pi" and I enjoyed it a lot.

Pierrot Le Fou

My second outing with Jean-Luc Godard. A stylish, existential, counter-culture comedy of sorts. Quirky and charming at worst, a masterpiece at best. Bonnie and Clyde in 60's France. Think I probably still prefer Breathless though. Vivre Sa Vie up next!

I loved this film. Very atmospheric. Never tried too hard. The plot wasn't important. It just flowed nicely and kept me entertained with skillful cinematography and punchy dialogue. Liked the soundtrack too. Only gripe was with the unrealistic guns. Amusing as it was, it did feel like I was watching Flash Gordon in instances. Sparks a-flying!

oz the great ....*sigh*... the great at making me wonder why i even watch this shit any more. it's the same fucking story over and over.

awesome that you like Pierrot le fou, GodSpeedK. hope you think just as highly of Vivre sa vie. both are great looking films in very different ways.

Sleepwalk with Me

i'd never heard of the comedian, so the story was new to me. the movie doesn't have much edge, and that fit my demeanor today quite well. it's a gloomy but hopeful sad indie. it's production quality isn't the best, but it's not a problem either. a few lines stand out as above average. they are an exception to the film. still glad i watched it. also touches on being unsure of your current path in life. so pretty relatable.

Fay Grim

i haven't been keeping up in this thread. makes me sad because i really like benzos so this is the only way i can remember what i've seen. i do remember watching Fay Grim on instant. i had been putting it off because i accidentally read the description, and i'm not a big fan of thrillers. i kept on bumping into it because parker posey is amazing. eventually i saw that netflix also has it classified as a comedy. so i gave it a chance. it's a weird comedy. parker is perfect at it. like really snappy, overly direct, expositional dialogue. it's not silly in all aspects though. makes for some awkward, pretty novel humor. worth watching. she does some strange movies. oh, also, Burn After Reading must have been quite influenced by this film.

The Butterfly Effect
I just saw this flick and was very impressed; I'm probably biased, though, by seeing the director's cut, which general opinion seems to indicate is superior to the theatrical version. Dark, depressing, yet--IMO--cathartic in its own way. I think this flick would've done better with critics if they'd ditched Kutcher and had the balls to go with the original ending.

Would give it 3 1/2, but felt it was safer to round down to a solid three with only four stars (that's in the other thread that I didn't feel like bumping after 8 years).

Looper

How Bruce Willis became such a badass was rather unclear & didn't flow well IME, but otherwise I liked it a lot. It was a great mix of drama & action. Joseph Gordon-Levitt's wardrobe was spectacular, and the dystopian future was done nicely--always a favourite of mine.

^ What do you mean it wasn't clear? JGL was already a bad ass gunslinger-type in the past, so obviously his future self would only become more bad ass.

I didn't like the movie, though. Felt kinda ho-hum to me.

that letterbox scene still scars me
i love the film a lot but i think its one of those films you see 1 or 2 times and then its enough

Possible
The way Willis was able to easily take over Abe's place, fighting through everybody single-handly, untying his wrist knots, etc. when he had seemingly spent the previous five years, if not longer, chilling & fucking that sexy Azn babe didn't seem very realistic IMO. He would've been about 50 or so as well.
That aside, I quite enjoyed it.

Without giving any spoilers, the Blu-Ray has many deleted scenes which go into considerably more detail about Joe's life / future in China; supposedly they were only theatrically shown in China itself, as a sop to the film's investors and audience.

^that kid looks like tim ferguson!
i keep expecting him to start Doug Anthony All Starring all up in robin's face! ;)

just kidding, lookalike aside, i have never connected the two
