Man, I haven't watched a movie in like 3 weeks. I think I've just about fallen behind the pace for 365 movies this year (I'm at 171).

here let me help you with that

feel better, mate?

we have a nine film lineup and john and yoko bed date (with szechuan bed picnic) set for tomorrow once we get the baby off to school due to us both having an RDO, and bed and movies being the perfect anecdote in beating this winters chill and an excuse to endulge in film, a good snuggle and conversation. our list, so varied entails:

- jacobs ladder
- inception
- moonrise kingdom
- mixed nuts
- midnight in paris
- the number 23
- the crying game
- a beautiful mind
- the skulls

mostly psychological thrillers. were in the mood.

I remember the first time I did that. The following day I gathered the droogs for a spirited bout of ultraviolence.

The Man Who Fell To Earth.

I enjoyed it. It was a pretty frustrating story, and I wasn't crazy about Bowie's performance. But I think Roeg's direction was brilliant. A lot of very surreal scenes that were both humorous and disturbing. Fantastic imagery, it was more of an art-house movie, than Sci-fi. The soundtrack was one of the highlights, added to the sense of confusion. Would watch again.

thankyou for smoking and juno.

it was paired up in one of those 5 movie collection DVD's alongside the darjeeling limited (which i love), little miss sunshine and 500 days of summer.

One of the funniest films I've seen in a while out of India. Right on par with The 3 Idiots.

Just finished watching The Purge. Better than i thought it was going to be, but still left me feeling very empty inside.

watched The Killing of a Chinese Bookie last night, such a great movie.

the main character Cosmo reminds me of a cross between James Bond and Van Wilder like I know that's a weird comparison but you gotta see the movie to understand

he's just cool as hell with a snarky comment for everything

"gentlemen, I'm not someone who treats a gambling debt as just a piece of paper ok?"

*later in the movie*

"what about the money you still owe them?"

best line of the movie said:
It's just a piece of paper

^ John Cassavetes is a fucking genius. I was reminded of that fact after watching "A Woman Under The Influence" this afternoon - more of a domestic slice-of-life drama than "Killing of a Chinese Bookie", but still pretty incredible.

Stoker - After the death of her father, India Stoker learns she has a creepy uncle.

Stoker is the first English film by Chan-Wook Park, director of Oldboy and other acclaimed Korean films. The best thing I can say about the movie is that it is visually striking - CWP's cinematography is as good as it ever was. But really, that's the only good thing I can say about it.

The story is interesting at first, but it fizzles out towards the end where it begins flirting with melodrama. At its core, Stoker is essentially a Coming of Age story - sexual euphemisms and innuendo are constant, some more subtle than others, but they are present in almost every scene. However, despite some cliche and pretentiousness, the story is at least compelling enough to keep you engaged (especially coupled with the great camera work). The worst part of the movie is clearly the acting. I'll never understand why the new trend is to make English language films with non-English speaking directors. Like Jee-Woon Kim's The Last Stand (or better, James Nguyen's Birdemic) [or even better, Claudio Fragasso's Troll 2] the actors deliver their lines as if they've never had a real conversation before - there's a sort of stilted vocal rhythm that results when English-speaking actors are coached by people who don't speak English. It's so distracting that it can completely take you out of the film. To her credit though, Nicole Kidman easily gives the best, most nuanced performance of the film - the other characters were fairly two-dimensional.

I gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed with how the film turned out. Still...could have been worse, I guess.

^ havent seen that one yet, but have so far loved most adaptations of jack and the beanstalk. will have to check it out :D

this evening were cuddling up with coffee and "i <3 huckabees".

last night it was "cyrus" and "the big year".

were making our way through the quirky indie film list on imdb, regardless of if weve seen the film before or not.
