A-Dangerous-Method-2011-Front-Cover-58065.jpg

A dangerous method, was ok but nothing great.

I saw Moneyball, The Ides of March, and In Time in the past 2 days.

I hated Ides of March even though it had some good acting scenes, it was like ridiculously squandered talent all over the place. They tried to pull a Soprano's style ending, and were just trying to be too cute throughout the whole movie it was off-putting. The movie just struck me as wholly unnecessary. The story didn't really go anywhere, it was hardly a movie at all. I get the whole "internal struggle" thing, but it was really more just Ryan Gossling taking it up the ass and looking like a deer in headlights half the time. I love most of the actors in the movie, so I felt tricked into thinking it was a good movie for a little bit.

Moneyball was a solid movie. It was good but kinda forgettable? I think as a movie it was more cliched than Ides of March, but it deserves to exist at least, so that passes some sort of threshold I guess. The part I didn't get about it was why didn't Jonah Hill's character have more impact on the Cleveland Indians if he was able to stop a trade by simply whispering into someone's ear. If he was allowed to be in the GM's room, you'd think he wouldn't have to go hurry out into the parking garage to talk to Brad Pitt's character about this radical new theory about baseball.

I thought In Time was really good, stylistic, futuresque, and within it's own world it all makes sense. I appreciated the fact they didn't go into a huge explanation of exactly who implemented the whole Body Clock thing and exactly how it was all put into place. They just sort of presented their world to you, and you take it or leave it, and then let the story play out within these parameters. It reminded me of V for Vendetta but with better looking people all around, gotta love that. I assumed I would hate it and write it off as cheesy, but it really appealed to me. I wasn't expecting a Bonnie and Clyde meets Robin Hood angle, it was fresh and entertaining IMO.

I saw Olliver Stones JFK last night on netflix. I went into the film with some preconcieved notions about the JFK assasination and the cover up theory behind it. I gotta say I forgot all about it 5 minutes into the film, I was sucked in. First off the acting is superb and the cast is loaded with A list actors Kevin Costner was on his game for the whole film. The story is sound and the cinemtography is right on. It may have been the longest movie I have ever watched coming in at 3 hours 9 minutes but it held my attention the whole time. I think it is a must see 4/5 stars

Limitless, interesting film, definitively worth watching. few bits of the plot which baffled me though

Swordfish. Was a bit too tired to watch this one and it will require a re-watching, but was overall pretty good. All excellent actors. Very high-paced film. :)

^ I'm a bit confused about the ending TBH. I mean, [spoil]How did he escape blowing up in the helicopter? Did he go into some sort of trap door on the roof of the building? And who was the dead person in the wine cellar? Someone whose identity he stole?[/spoil] I told you I was tired when I watched it. :P

The Night Heaven Fell

it is bad. a genre film, as to be expected. but instead of bright, hot pulp, it is completely flat. only reason to watch would be bardot, who does not get a chance to shine; the film is too focused on its pointless plot. [spoil]a young girl experiences love at first site. because of something the man does, they flee and become fugitives. this results in only her being shot, but that's ok because she dies in her first and only lover's arms.[/spoil]

this one mixes it up by having a woman slap brigitte around instead of a man. the man throws her around. into the wall, a moment before their first and most tender embrace. then later, over a rock, drawing blood, right after ripping open her dress and right before making passionate love--you see some nip.

there are some cool city and countryside shots. there are also some really cheap looking sets. the transfer i saw was overall ok.

Sherman's March

a strange documentary. whole time i was watching i was thinking how much it is like that one other documentary where the guy just films everything, Time Indefinite. well that's because it's the same guy. director i guess, though the term "filmmaker" feels more appropriate. i wish i would have seen them in the other order, the order in which they were filmed. my favorite moment is when he leans forward a little further so he can catch his hug with a girl in a reflection. his sister and pat(ricia) are good funny. i'd definitely recommend Sherman's March over Time Indefinite. he has receded further behind his camera by the time the latter was filmed. and so much of his life is already decided; i personally was able to relate more with Sherman's March. reminds me of the graphic novel David Boring, even beyond the doomsday motif.

Am always wary of the true worth of 'awarded films' - this proved to be fucking fabulous - beautiful film!

Kill-List-Poster-610x462.jpg

Another great show imo- really, superb fascinating and gripping psychological, fiction.

win-win-movie-poster.jpg

Loved this too...a tad biast cause I love Giamatti but he does a great job again in a quirky and sweet film.

Why isnt this on IMDB when I looked it up?...For shame, SHAME!
Such a cool movie, original, humourous and really got the noggin' and heart strings churning- definitely an original-deserves major credit for that.

Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Didn't get through it all, but I have seen it before. Was much more funny this time around, with S_L and her kid brother making up alternate dialogue. LOL

"Drive".... not sure what to make of it, may have to re-watch it. seemed a bit slow and flat, very "arty" kinda film but with too many gaps in the speech, the main character seemed a bit wooden, but maybe i wasnt in the right frame of mind for it. expected a lot more driving etc. started off promising though

Julien Donkey-Boy

the beginning made me nervous. that first scene (after the ice skater shot) doesn't really scream "this is going to be a great film!" but the movie takes shape, and it's good. the crew either learned to keep their shadows and reflections out of the shots, or i got wrapped up enough to stop caring.

i'm so glad chloe is in it. one of my favorite scenes is her walking in the field. the story makes a point to show and contrast an internal beauty, but also there is an aesthetic beautiful that exists inside their world. given all the gritty, the film needs that balance. the character harmony's little sister plays helps also. [spoil]and ending on the ice skater reprise instead of the bed shot fade-out was a good decision.[/spoil]

lots of focus on setting, as to be expected given his previous two films--i give harmony Kids, not larry. i also expected it to be visually abstract, though i don't appreciate this shooting on video nonsense. having to credit someone for transferring the tape to film is a bad joke. the clear dramatic structure was a pleasant surprise. sometimes it felt like the film was pushing its themes a little too hard. [spoil]the armless man giving his talk about attitude: his personality is evident and evidence enough that we do not also need it to be the topic of conversation. when the dad tells the youngest he needs to be a winner because there isn't one in the family: realistic or not, that's too direct for fictional dialogue.[/spoil]

there are some La jete style scenes in there. and they work. the scene (or stills and audio) of her picking baby names is so cute. and twisted.

if i was gonna introduce someone to korine, i'd show them Gummo. that said, Julien Donkey-Boy is similar and very worth watching. like Gummo, this one calls for repeat viewings. i'm excited for Mister Lonely. i'm dreading Trash Humpers.

The Heineken kidnapping, only watched it because it had Rutger Hauer in it and I remembered when this was in the news.
It was a load of bollox though.

^'The Devils Double' was pretty good, entertaining in it's 80's kitchness- Guy playing 'Latiff' did a great job!...thanks for posting btw! ;)
