no, you forgive me... your initial comments didn't seem to want to understand my comment. you seemed to want to ridicule my comment without understanding or, at first even asking, why i said it.

i'll agree it's a little melodramatic but, to me, there are similarities between the two directors. for me, they are both directors who have successfully created beautiful works across a range of very different genres. i feel they've both produced good work consistently. they've both made use of existing (written) works as source material and adapted them for the screen. one thing i love most about kubrick movies is his use of light - think of 'eyes wide shut' and 'barry lyndon', two of his movies which use light to create extremely atmospheric scenes. i think the same is true of boyle and it's this comparison which lead me to make my comment most - the obvious work is 'sunshine' but it's also true to an extent in 'slumdog millionaire' and '127 hours'.

No no I insist that you forgive me :\ as I can see how my tone can be misunderstood as close minded. For that I apologize.

However I stand by my position even though I can now see your point more clearly.

To me it is not just a matter of what film projects they have taken on and how similar those projects are. I think it has everything to do with filming technique and visual style and in that the two directors are hugely different. Although I have to agree that yes both directors have chosen a variety of film projects. But I think the comparison should end there.

As for consistently good works? I dunno The Beach was mediocre IMO. I enjoyed it but still it wasn't all that great of a movie. And Sunshine was good but I think you already know my opinion on that.

when the Last King Of Scotland came out, i thought 'oh here is a film i will go to the theater to see'

then i forgot alll about it.

i watched it last night, and...5/10
:\

Faces is next and seems more my speed...

everything about the film was greeeat, if you need a film to watch this comes highly recommended :D

justin timberlake's acting wasnt too shabby either

soundtrack is gd as well easy 9/10

Serial Mom with Kathleen Turner...

"Is this the C*cksucker Residence"

If you need a good laugh you need to watch this movie. Oh the good old days before caller ID

Enter the void, never got passed the first half an hour previously, you need to be in a certain frame of mind to watch this.

^ AKA, lots of drugs. I started that movie about a dozen times before I finally finished it while tripping.

that^ movie is about 2 hours too long.

anyway, i last watched time bandits. good ol terry gilliam silliness. i prefer it when he's a bit more serious and less fantastic.

The Road to Wellville... in which a buck-toothed Anthony Hopkins insists that Matthew Broderick have large quantities of yoghurt inserted anally, and John Cusack is less than pleased with his cornflakes. Not to mention titty shots from two actresses with six names (Jennifer Jason Leigh; Lara Flynn Boyle) and a very dirty Dana Carvey.

I was stoned; I enjoyed it.

Because that was based on a true story I found it rather disturbing. I think if I saw it again I might be able to view it in a different way, but I found the end to be rather fucked up

Took me so long to get through that movie too. I found it difficult to just sit down and casually watch..

I watched The Tree of Life. Wasn't quite what I was hoping, but still pretty good. A few great sequences.

horrible bosses must be some kind of record.

switched off around the 8 minute mark. pure trash. every character obnoxious twats, essentially identical to one another. terrible humour.

^Yeah that movie was terrible although I actually sat through the whole thing.

It was mildly entertaining to watch Aniston play a total rabid slut though.

And the films title got translated here into something more hilarious than the movie itself. Something like "Nobodies boss is not despicable" or something like that.

Doesn't sound that funny re translated back into English I know but if you speak fluent Cantonese its pretty fucking hilarious.

hahah, i remember when speed came out, in some foreign market they retitled it "stop the bus"

anyways, happy new year !

Thanks Gung Hai Fat Choi to you!!!! Its my year btw. Year of the fucking dragon mother fucker!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!

omg the noise just now was crazy. nutters were setting off stuff on either side of the building, some of it projectiles which shot right up to our window level. the night sky on all sides was just flashing.

so let me guess, you're 24 this year? ;)

the handle i had for quite a while before going back to l2r was actually from a foreign translated film title. for a long time i was "Impacto Profundo" here, which is the spanish title for deep impact. =D

I watched an Irish documentary called His and Hers.

It very much applied to me (except I'm not in Ireland), so I thoroughly enjoyed it.
