Been watching this on netflix,

Redline

Redline follows JP, a daredevil driver with his customized vehicle named Trans Am. He enters an interplanetary tournament, held once every five years, where the deadliest racers compete and many people plan to play the game for their own ends. The film is produced by the studio MADHOUSE (Ninja Scroll, Summer Wars), directed by Takeshi Koike (The Animatrix's World Record) and written by Katsuhito Ishii (Piroppo, Trava).

Hardly ever watch anime but this is wickedd so far, reminds me of an intense cartoon version of Fast n furious/Wacky Races, quality animation, slightly cheesy voice acting but worth a watch. could imagine it'd be a right eye candy head fuck on ketamine or something

Apparently all hand drawn and took them 7 years to make

Nah I just ignored the cheesy aspect of it all and it's an alright film ;)

Ah! ;)

The Spirit of the Beehive

thanks, Asclepius! i was pleasantly surprised to see anna torrent again. love her in Cria cuervos. the people i watched it with said they thought she was a boy at first. irked me. such a beautiful little actress. there are a number of reasons i should not have watched this movie with a group of people. plus my brother came down part way through asking questions like, "is the whole things gonna be in subtitles?"

that's all ok because i gotta watch it again. we streamed it through huluplus, and the picture quality was poor. this would matter with any good movie, and particularly with The Spirit of the Beehive. because it is beautiful indeed. i was watching it with other film buffs, but the subtle plot line was a killer for 3 of 4 of them. i was distracted by knowing they were not enjoying it. criterion has it on DVD, and it's more than worth another viewing. this time by myself.

Mesrine: Killer Instinct

we ended up watching two films. this was second and another's choice. he had already seen it. i don't get his interest in this. probably either wants to be or be fucked by vincent cassel. it's laughable, and it's supposed to be some artsy, hard-hitting gangster movie.

UHF

another friend came over later that night after getting kicked out by his babymama. we got drunk and itchy and tried to pick something silly. we succeeded.

Clerks - First Kevin Smith movie I've seen. Been hearing about Clerks for years, and it seems people either love it or hate it. I thought it was pretty good, funny dialogue and all. The dialogue almost seemed too witty to be realistic, but it was a decent movie that captured a lot of the crap that comes with working jobs like that.

Also saw Donnie Darko and Rushmore. Had seen both of them years ago and felt they both deserved another viewing. Had seen Rushmore when I was in middle school and I couldn't really appreciate it or appreciate it's humor at the time. First saw Donnie Darko about 7 or so years ago and just felt that it needed another viewing since there are so many interpretations of what actually happened. Enjoyed both more the second time around. It was a lot easier following Donnie Darko on the second viewing since I already knew what was going to happen so I could try and piece together what was happening better instead of waiting for everything to unfold.

Re Landrover: Welcome to the Viewaskewniverse. ;) His best film, IMO, is Chasing Amy, with Dogma a very close second.

The Siege of Leningrad, with Gabriel Byrne, Mira Sorvino, and a bunch of actual Russian actors. A worthy effort, but not a great film.

Glad you liked the recommend Hydro! ;) I saw it before but was probably with a bottle of wine so, didn't absorb much.
...and yes, Anna is an absolutely adorable, wise little pixie in it-completely smitten by her stunning, presence and cuteness. <3
I lol'd at your brother's comment, I actually love reading subtitles but a lot of people I know abhor it, so used to getting that 'aw ffs' reaction too. ;)
It is definitely one to watch on your own, or with another who is intrigued by it- it kind of requires that reverence(?)
Have yet to see Cria cuervos and also want to see El Nido(although it isn't meant to be fantastic).

Director Zhang Yimou brings the sumptuous visual style of his previous films (Raise the Red Lantern, Shanghai Triad) to the high-kicking kung fu genre. A nameless warrior (Jet Li, Romeo Must Die, Once Upon a Time in China) arrives at an emperor's palace with three weapons, each belonging to a famous assassin who had sworn to kill the emperor. As the nameless man spins out his story--and the emperor presents his own interpretation of what might really have happened--each episode is drenched in red, blue, white or another dominant color. Hero combines sweeping cinematography and superb performances from the cream of the Hong Kong cinema (Maggie Cheung, Irma Vep, Comrades: Almost a Love Story; Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, In the Mood for Love, Hard Boiled; and Zhang Ziyi, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). The result is stunning, a dazzling action movie with an emotional richness that deepens with every step. --Bret Fetzer

30 minutes or less, Jesse wasn't to bad in this film and it was entertaining nothing more. (some of his others are just right wank films)
