What's one drug-related myth you wish would finally disappear?

For most people who try it, it triggers nausea over any positive sensations, and they do not feel like ever doing it again.

For the minority people that get an instant great hit like I did, the bloody LAST thing you wanna do is reinforce that and tell them they are now permanently 'enslaved' because they had one initial great drug experience.
Good to know. I don't ever want to try it.

^Meth lite lol nicotine more addictive than heroin, idk. my vape ran out 3 days ago and I am not returning cans or dying in a pool of myself...

I actually know well knew someone who jumped off an apartment building in Scarborough Ontario in the 90's high on acid. Don't think it's that common though

Marijuana is the gateway drug.

Poly substance use is.by and.large a factor of experience.and.genetics. marijuana

it would take.some fucking lifetime effort to genetically manipulate this into "narcotic" at near morphine equivalence but im just setting high standards. that would make one instantly want to smoke a huge stem of crack right away because that is what US govt will want to push at schedule 3 now. Yes. They are.coming in fast to. Ive survived the crack epidemic

You won’t find any “documented cases” on the internet ,
Because no documented cases exist.

most of the things happening they are documented on police stations and hospitals not for the public eye
If that's true, what makes you certain they happen? Folklore myths? No, the Freedom of Information Act makes data like that available today. Also, yes these types of things are documented, and yes, they are often published and can be found on the internet. People's identities might be redacted for privacy reasons, but we'd still know if people leapt to their deaths on LSD.

Cases of people jumping through windows because of drugs are bullshit scare stories, otherwise there would be documentation/evidence. I'm open to being proven wrong though.

, that’s reality for all cases of whatever , just because you can’t find proof of something on the internet doesn’t mean it never happened.
True, but it doesn't mean that it did happen either. I'm not going to assume that everything that could happen happened just because there's no evidence of it. That's the worst logic possible.

I bet probably lot of people jump out of windows on stimulants , opiates , weed , etc on all kinds of drugs. People just love to jump off windows lol.
It's unclear to me if you're being sarcastic.

1st time I tried psychedelics I didn’t even knew what was they’re effects I thought they were fake bunk etc , was sick as a dog at that time with fever etc and ate alone 20g of truffles , what a ride!
No flight attempts though, right? 😉

I have no fucking clue about Frank Owen's death, is it recent?
No, that's the CIA agent who fell to his death in the early 1960s after being surreptitiously dosed with LSD by the CIA without his consent. It was called a suicide at the time, and Owen supposedly leapt through a closed hotel window, curtains, blinds and all, and fell to his death after being surreptitiously dosed with LSD by the CIA without his consent. Lotta evidence suggests he was murdered though by the CIA though. Regardless, this set off the urban legend that taking acid makes people leap out of windows thinking they can fly.

Because I know someone who did (but it was supposedly on XTC). He's a paraplegic now.

Also alcoholics fall out of windows regularly.

Slightly opposite to this but they should start pedalling the message that nicotine is more addictive than heroin. Its true
So-called "addictiveness" can't be quantified. There is no logical way to score, rate or rank drugs according to addictiveness, and if there were, it would be different for each person.

If you start a habit young enough and your brain develops around that habit, it's often difficult to quit that habit later in life, much more so than if you pick up a habit when you're older.

"Addiction" means "spoken for" as a word, and it shares roots with words like "diction", "dictionary", "dictation", "indictment", "interdiction", etc. It's a lame metaphor, but the word stuck after the World Health Organization introduced it in 1958. Almost all drugs cause tolerance, requiring more and more in repeated sessions to achieve the same results. Some drugs cause tolerance to build much more rapidly than others. Also, some drugs can cause physical dependency when used repeatedly and frequently. Tolerance and physical dependency typically grow together. Avoid one to avoid the other.

Also, some people are genetically more predisposed to compulsive behavioral habits. This can manifest as various OCDs but also take the form of other ailments such as Drug Misuse Disorder, alcoholism, problematic gambling, sex addiction, etc. History shows it's best to deal with these disorders as they happen on a case-to-case basis, not blanket ban things. It's why we reversed alcohol prohibition, legalized porn for adults, and legalized gambling. One bonus to this is that it allows us to have safety regulations. I'm not concerned when I buy liquor that it might be poisoned or cut with something… that's thanks to regulation.

Despite alcohol's dangers, the public doesn't view alcohol with the same fear and ignorance that they do most illegal drugs. And it's kept that way by persistent cultural myths, no matter how made up or obviously full of shit they are. Don't fall for this, please.

Because I know someone who did (but it was supposedly on XTC).
I'm calling bullshit. First of all, "but it was supposedly on XTC" tells me a lot. It says you heard about this bullshit second- or third-hand, meaning it amounts to hearsay, nothing credible at all.

And if you know this person, why can't you clarify if it was while they were on "XTC", and I assume you mean ecstasy, aka: MDMA? And how did we cross over from talking about supposed LSD window-jumpers who get dosed without their knowledge and leap to their death under questionable government-spun circumstances, to now all of a sudden people getting paralyzed because now I guess you're claiming MDMA causes you to think you can fly and jump out of windows?

You either made that up or you're repeating someone else's made-up story. Stop doing this, please. Some of us want the Drug War to end, and this kinda bullshit works against that effort.

He's a paraplegic now.
Ruh roh! I guess no one should ever be allowed to take drugs then!

Also alcoholics fall out of windows regularly.
Yes, I know. Drunk people do that kinda shit sometimes. I'm not a fan of that drug, and I've seen it lead to some horrible decision-making, criminal shit, physical violence, alcoholism, destruction of property, ruining of grades and/or careers, cirrhosis, incarceration, automobile accidents and early death, etc. AFAIK, none of the drunks who fall out of windows did so thinking they could actually fly though. It's accidental and probably not the results of delusional thinking brought about by the drug (alcohol).

I'm sorry for calling this out bc it feels shitty, I don't like doing this, but this is a harm reduction forum, and it's important that we spread the actual truth, dispel myths, rumors, and folklore horseshit, and build a better future for ourselves and future generations. Drug prohibition is the actual scourge, not the drugs themselves. Those are immutable… they don't go away and neither does the demand for them. Criminalizing drugs years ago was a major tactical mistake, as we can clearly see now. And flipping the switch to legal isn't something that will work either. It will result in disaster unless it's done cautiously and correctly while cooler heads prevail.

Regardless, LSD doesn't make people jump from windows thinking they can fly. If it's ever even happened, it's exceedingly rare to the point of not being worthy of consideration.

Marijuana is the gateway drug.
Yeah I hate that one, too. There is no such thing as a "gateway" substance. If you get caught lying about the dangers of drugs, that is what's going to lead to people throwing caution to the wind and trying other substances. You killed your credibility when you lied and it became obvious… And ironically that makes things less safe as a result. it's ridiculous that people don't see that.

it would take.some fucking lifetime effort to genetically manipulate this into "narcotic" at near morphine equivalence but im just setting high standards.
Cannabinoids and opioids are completely different though. There is no practical genetic manipulation to make cannabis plants produce opioids instead of cannabinoids, but that's an interesting thought nonetheless.

that would make one instantly want to smoke a huge stem of crack right away because that is what US govt will want to push at schedule 3 now.
Wait a minute. Let me get this straight. You're saying that you think the U.S. govt. wants to make cocaine Schedule III so they can "push" it to the public? As if that's the U.S.'s modus operandi… They're going to push cocaine on the people? And they're going to do so by rescheduling it as Schedule III, and then not merely try to tax it or anything, which doesn't even make sense bc that scheduling is for medical purposes, but not a tax…rather they're going to start pushing cocaine?

Am I missing something?

Yes. They are.coming in fast to.
Are they though? How so and what makes you say that?

Ive survived the crack epidemic
I don't doubt it; that checks out.

Glad you survived. One love, homie. I like your username, btw.

EDIT: just to be sure we're on he same page, you do understand that in states where cannabis has been legalized, that only pertains to the state level and state courts, right? So that's just state government. The federal government in Washington D.C. however has not legalized THC-bearing cannabis (as opposed to "hemp"). They don't tax cannabis, the states do that. Rescheduling it Schedule III moves it into the control of doctors' prescriptions on a federal level, but that's still not the same as full on recreational legalization with "luxury tax".

Furthermore, cocaine.hcl is mass produced in Colombia after being grown there, or in Peru or Bolivia. Cocaine itself is notoriously difficult to synthesize in a lab and is one of sixteen possible isomers, making it a low-yielding, expensive and inconvenient drug to synthesize with any scale. Yet still, where there's a will, there's a way, and where there's a demand, there will be a supply, so who knows?

Am I missing something? (Well other than the CIA pushing crack into impoverished communities specifically to RUIN THEM -- idk what dude is talkin bouut though)

(I thought I misunderstood that so left the post alone)

Im saying that the tobacco company ITG did this for tobacco. My analogy that marijuana is also genetically manipulated. To what extent is basically a trade secret for Canadians and Colombians. holding ones own govt accountable for targeting white communities to come in and buy said substance. Outside of Atlanta the epidemic has not ended and I believe no one body in the US is proving cocaine overdoses are related homicides inside of Harm Reduction reversal overdose communities no one is saying anything about the deaths

of people like Lois Vincent, a founder of the cocaine reversal movement. She Championed this movement of amazing empirical science process and died in August of 2025. Cocaine hcl was not in the toxic screen nor was their a ruling made officially. She was my mentor and I believe someone is accountable for her death via overdose of cocaine and tranq and the harm reduction north carolina community is covering for them or is only now seeing that the system did not fail her.
Im holding out she wanted an end to the WOD. She championed this movement and now no one in her circles is holding her non.profit advocacy group after she passed. Have messaged participants but nothing

There is just such a lot of stuff out there that is passed on as items of faith.

It's tough because when people sense they may be asked to explain, the wisely choose simply not to to say certain things.

Methadone causing tooth decay while true, is equally true for all opioids as they all produce xerostomia (dry mouth). But how it 'gets into your bones' is a classic explainer.

I hope BL forsters an atmosphere where if someone wants to know, people who know will do their best to find a balance between overly complex and 'lies told to children' (as Terrry Pratchett termed it) and explain.

We are all ignorant and it's not weakness to ask i.e. to demonstrate ignorance of what is, after all, a field not spoken of by most people.

HR is letting people make INFORMED choices.

SO MANY people at the addictions services [other addicts, not medical personelle] told me that about Methadone getting into your bones.
I'm guessing it comes from the fact that the withdrawal causes bone PAIN? It was like a decade ago I told turkey'd it but I think I did get bone pain...not as bad as when I had Hypervitaminosis A, though, that was weird.
