I've heard people confidently repeat things about drugs that turn out to be much more complicated than they sound. What's a common misconception you've encountered, and what does the evidence actually say?

Let's share reliable information without judging anyone for not knowing something.

Oh man there are so many. But if I had to narrow it down to the one that sets my teeth on edge it would have to be the old "ecstasy pills have heroin in them while molly doesn't."

Newsflash idiot, real ecstasy contains only MDMA aka molly.

There is just such a lot of stuff out there that is passed on as items of faith.

It's tough because when people sense they may be asked to explain, the wisely choose simply not to to say certain things.

Methadone causing tooth decay while true, is equally true for all opioids as they all produce xerostomia (dry mouth). But how it 'gets into your bones' is a classic explainer.

I hope BL forsters an atmosphere where if someone wants to know, people who know will do their best to find a balance between overly complex and 'lies told to children' (as Terrry Pratchett termed it) and explain.

We are all ignorant and it's not weakness to ask i.e. to demonstrate ignorance of what is, after all, a field not spoken of by most people.

HR is letting people make INFORMED choices.

Some people claim that meth makes them gay, and because it does that to them, they think everyone is the same and affected equally. Who knew?

The belief that cannabis, or any drug, is a "gateway drug".

The idea that once you're in recovery, you're always in recovery.

The bullshit of "only losers use drugs". Though it may be true that only users lose drugs… 🤣

Terry Pratchett was great!

One single dose of heroin will make you an addict for life.
Or any drug… or that any drug could instantly turn you into a zombie.

They also believe PCP instantly makes you insane and want to fight cops, like this is the standard high or something.

Cocaine and marijuana allow white women to become addicted to sex to prove racial inequality and HR in America to further narcotics feminist anti patriarchal systems and then twisted to become extorted by NGO and psychoanalysis groups adjunct promising therapy extorted to further drug chemistry of the war on drugs state military arm of the pharmaceutical machine empire of the old religion of prison and enslavement based in grotesque confirmation biases when the trials were mismanagement of patients rights by their so-called admin peers colleagues perpetuating the victim ideology refugees of the americans creating the perfect radicalized love.

This might be a good candidate for Drug Culture. No harm done.

You could argue that your question is the reason for Bluelight's existence. In the age of information, we have access to so much data on so many subjects. As psychoactive substance use is not "appropriate" behavior socially, there has always been a need for objective information. When I was a teenager, I discovered Erowid. This was a great primer for basic information in addition to first-hand experience reports. You can consume those and try to determine some objective truths for yourself.

We are here because there wasn't another resource for this information.

"Methadone gets in your bones" - that's my vote. It's repeated to this day by both clinic staff, nurses, doctors and patients. I discuss the failure of modern medicine quite a bit here on the forums. You will get just as much information from a bad doctor as you will from an addict on the street. It's a lesson in determining information for yourself. Too often today, people see something on television and not only are they willing to share the belief, they will get behind it fully and argue it at their own expense.

Being successful in this game means being able to do your own research to verify the things that you read or hear. At the end of the day, you cannot trust a single person's opinion, especially in this contemporary world.

How about it helps allow closeted gays to come out of the closet and makes borderline cases less borderline . People who have bisexual tendencies may exert their sexuality in both directions more strongly under meth. But I have never seen meth change a formerly hetero person into a gay sex fiend. I have never seen meth change a guys proclivity towards vagina to suddenly be a strong preference for cock only.

The shroom high being caused by "food poisoning".

Heard this one too many times from people that aren't even naive in general.
