What the dumbest thing a drug-counsellor ever told you?

I've been wondering something UnSq. Do you speak in rhyme in real life?

My mom's friend once told me she had boughten laced weed recently and quit smoking because of it, upon inspection of the buds it was just reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllly good shit.

The other one is my grandpa lecturing to me and my sister how bad marijuana is for you while he is sitting there drinking captain

Then There Was Doctor Who Said 4 Standard Drinks A Day Makes You An Alcoholic.

man, that one pisses me off. and it's not 4 drinks a day, it's drinking more than 4 drinks any time you drink. so if you only drink 2 days a week, and have about 6 drinks on those two nights, you're an alcoholic. saying shit like that doesn't give addiction the respect it deserves. the lady on intervention (chugging mouthwash because her kids hide her vodka), some bum on the street (with nothing but a 1/5), and i (playing a few games of beer-pong on the weekend), all suffer from the same condition. interesting.

I remember when I was in the 8th grade, we had the DARE program where a cop comes to your school and lectures you about drugs and the danger they can cause. The cop actually told us that we could suffer from a heart attack just by smoking one joint.

That someone's emotional age halts at the time of first drug used, so if you started smoking weed at 12 and now you're 28, then you have the emotional intelligence of a 12 year old and the body of a 28 year old.

While there may be some truth to that statement, I think the situation is much more complex than stating that bromide as a written in stone fact of psychology.

Personally, I first started drinking alcohol excessively and smoking cigarettes at 16 years of age and did first started hard drugs (lsd, kind bud, ecstasy, and cocaine) at 19. I'll take the 19--The Prince of Heaven--over the 16--The Shattered Citadel--any day, of course, not only for metaphysical reasons, but because I like hard drugs (especially those hard drugs) better than alcohol as well, but don't let me interject numerology into this discussion.

How about "You can't do this alone." in re: to quitting, rehab, and being sold more health services.

They try to ruin your self-confidence and shatter your will so they can "help" you. Why don't I just join a cult? Its cheaper, at least at first.

Why are all "reformed" drug addicts religious nutjobs? No offense to anybody here that this applies to.

Well, if the person got sober with the help of a 12 step program, the 2nd and 3rd steps state that you need to put your faith in a higher power (as you understand it) and turn your will and your life over to this higher power, which will restore you to sanity. Your higher power could be a fucking telephone pole, it just has to be something that isn't yourself. Because the idea is that you don't get yourself sober, your higher power does. In Step 6 and 7, after taking a moral inventory, you become ready to and then allow your higher power remove your defects of character. And in step 11 you pray and meditate to improve your conscious contact with your higher power (praying only for the knowledge of your higher powers will for you)
And even though they give you free reign to define your higher power and really don't shove religion down your throat like a lot of the anti 12 step people think, a good amount of people in the program define their higher power as the whole jesus, mary and joseph God, the bible God, the religious God and once that happens well, then, ipso fatso, religion has gotten you sober. But like I said, you can make your higher power a telephone pole and then, hey, the telephone pole got you sober.

Once they brought in a speaker who was a reformed life-long speed freak. She had parkinsons, talked like someone had a gun to her head, and saying how Jesus saved her and blah blah blah blah jesus this jesus that. Why are all "reformed" drug addicts religious nutjobs? No offense to anybody here that this applies to.
Because religion can be the most addictive drug of all.

Well weed does have a pretty strong effect on your hormones, hence you probably shouldn't be smoking before you've fully matured, but yeah, to say your emotional age halts is just stupid.

When refusing to give me Xanax for panic attacks:
"You know it won't kill you right. You'll pass out before you die."
Insensitive bitch...

This drug counsellor in france called all the pharmacies in the fucking village and told them to stop selling me syringes.

now if that isnt retarded i dont know what is

DARE actually got me into drugs. I remember being in 5th or 6th grade (about age 12) and talking with a DARE officer.... and I would spot the logical fallicies in what they were saying and point them out with questions about it... I think my favorite is the gateway drug theory... I told the officer it was unfair to assume that all drug users started with marijuana and they said if you ask random drug users 90% will say that was the first drug they did.... (poll please?) I proceeded to tell her that's probably because it was illegal... and once they are already breaking the law they continue. (Although I doubt I had the same vocabulary then)

Basically that was the first time I understood that the police weren't always the good guys and perhaps drugs weren't actually bad at all. (Question Everything.) I ended up waiting until about 15 or 16 before I ever really tried drugs... cocaine being the first... before tobacco... before alcohol... before it all came cocaine.

I also hated being in in-patient rehab... the bullshit that came out was rediculous... and for a while they had me in two various sections of the hospital... they put me in with severe drug dependancy, severe depression, and something else... all bullshit really... so half the time I got to deal with a bunch of teenage cutter girls dealing with self-esteem issues, and the other half meth-heads who got popped and got a deal if they went to rehab. It was funny though because the depression side knew why I was in there... and they would talk to me about drug use and their past... and how it was all bullshit really.

I thought I explained but perhaps I was just speed ranting.

I realized that the government isn't always telling the truth which sparked an immediate interest in drugs and altered states of mind.

My favs:

  • Concerta isn't methylphenidate (Ritalin) 8)
  • 5 mg Oxycontin is like morphine, I tried both substances and can only laugh at this comparison my pharmacist made xD
  • There are no other ADHD drugs, just Concerta and Ritalin, this coming from an psych who is specialized in ADHD...
  • Weed is not a soft drug, and ofcourse it's the gateway to the needle etc.
  • Doctors prescribing Diazepam to help me with quitting cannabis, they got me addicted to those lovely blue 10 mg pills instead 8) Only smoke during weekends now though :p
  • Cannabis is sometimes cut with glass
  • DARE-like thingy at school: police officer telling us all which drugs there are and what they look like, and telling us cannabis is more evil than crack or meth since more people use it.

Most other myths about cannabis have already been posted in this thread so I won't repeat them again, but my all-time fav is: weed causes brain damage / lung disease / bad immune system / amotivational syndrome... yet alcohol is no drug at all =D

uh, apart from the brain damage I think these are pretty legit. the "amotivational syndrome" is kind of a semantic one though since (according to my understanding) pot use is included in its definition. i.e. if you smoke pot and lack motivation, you have amotivational syndrome. Whether this is a legitimate "syndrome" (whatever that means) is up for debate.
