What kind of shape is your body in?

I have and have always had a thin, lithe body. The last time I had my BMI calculated—I think about 2 months ago—it was about 16.8. I've discovered that underweight is a BMI <18.5; normal weight = 18.5–24; overweight = 25–29.9; and obesity is >30. According to this reputable website.

I've always been fairly skinny and find it insuperably challenging to gain fat or muscle, no matter how much I eat or exercise.

It really sucks, too, not only because I look emaciated and underfed, but because it seems to also have the undesirable effect of leading most people to significantly underestimate my age. It hurts badly to be a 20 year old man and have some lady ask if I'm in middle school or being carded for entering 18+ clubs.

On the plus side, my dick looks huge on my small frame. Ha!

I've lost 4lbs this week by not eating carbs. Still was eating around 2500 cals a day :) gotta love a diet that doesn't mean you have to be hungry :)
I'll lose a few more pounds just to trim down a little then stay where I am. My boobs look better when I'm carrying more weight anyway :)

GoS were you maintaining a stable weight at 2500 cals a day?! If you were I'm well jealous :(

I'm pretty happy with my shape at the minute, I'm at 50/55kg for 1m70...I'd been great with the gym until I gave it all up for crisps this week so I need to get back into that quickly :p

Yeah I eat around 2000 cals a day and when very low carb I'll eat more like 2500! Under 20g of carbs though a day.
Best way to live! Natural appetite suppression because you're burning ketones instead of carbs

Huh fair enough! I think I pay too much attention to the number of calories vs. what's actually in the food (mostly cuz I can't be bothered, it must be said) - but if paying more attention to the food content means I get to eat more I may have to do that haha

Good, cos the other day you were saying you're always obsessing over not being thin enough, which is a bit silly cos you're as sexy as fuck

wow a load of convo I've missed :)

Pagey - Dan and I don't agree on a lot but I agree here, you're stunning I'm well jealous lol. You look good as you are but I don it's easier said to someone; we all don't see ourselves the way in that's do and in my case, when people say nice things about how I look, I often tend to think they're taking the mick and make a joke out of it lol. You really are good looking and it's nice to see you say you're happy with yourself.

One of my friends had an eating disorder and it was upsetting to see, knowing there was nothing I could do. She was good looking and I told her but she couldn't see this, and although I empathic and understand to a point I can't truly understand, if that makes sense. We had to cut all ties with one another as we were basically not helping one another but I wish her well and that she gets better some day.

GoS, well done on losing the Ibs.. A bit of advice, be careful when cutting down on carbs. A lot of people think this is the right way to go. It's not! Good carbrohydrates help your cognition as well as various other factors. It's best to aim for 40% protein, 40% carbs 20% good fats; omega 3-6. Aim for foods with b6-B12 vitamin because they target mood - things like salmon and nuts.

Good carbs are needed if you do exercise especially intense cardiovascular exercise because you are no longer burning fat calories, but carbohydrate calories and it's important to restore the glucagon- lost during intense exercise.

Just my penny's worth anyway.

EDIT: Not sure darkinthepark, I can only speak for myself and personally I don't believe any compliments I receive about my looks, tend to think they're either taking the mick and trying to make me feel better / be nice. so I, myself, tend not to fish for compliments lol but may others do, I'm unsure :)

If you want some compliments Evey don't be scared, just say so :)

Cutting carbs/reducing them is alright now and again i find, but if i cut them out for too long i feel lethargic and shite. i used to do high protein, low fat, low carbs, then raise the carbs up again. then drop them. days on and off the carbs if i recall. oily fish or omega 3 supplements, whey protein, tuna, chicken, salad, veg, some fruit. no eating after 5pm apart from protein. weight flys off. lost nearly a stone in a week before, wasnt too clever

This is exactly what I do, I eat absoluteshit really just not much of it I guess. I've been terrible with regular meals recently, I reckon I've lost weight again this week but can never really tell tbh. It's not that I actually think I'm fat but I don't feel like I'm too skinny either even though some people probably would say I am. Don't weigh myself or anything so I just find it hard to tell, don't know, guess most girls are a bit obsessive about how they look though really.

Sod societys obsession with skinny-ness, its almost brainwashed/obsessed with everybody being stupidly thin, which gives people a fucked up self image and whatnot

At the risk of repeating myself, I like skinny Asian and/or alternative girls with big boobs. The whole blonde bimbo thing can get tae fuck.

Dammit I wrote a big paragraph to lost and lost it all blah lol. Yea low carb diets will make you feel lethargic and crappy and drain your cognitive abilities. My brother works out 6 days a week and tends to eat similar diets to that. It's best to change eating habits and exercise routines periodically when losing weight or building muscle to stop plateaus as it shock the body.

I get what you mean about nation's obsessiveness with thininess. Only I wish to lose weight is because I feel lighter, more energetic and more healthy - I don't when I'm a heavier weight and it bothers me. Probably unconsciously does have something to do with so much thinness around, if I'm truly honest with myself, but hay ho lol

There is no weight loss benefit to eating 2500 calories of something else than 2500 of carbs. None. Zero.. It's the same thing as "If I drop a kg of stones and a kg of feathers from a skyscraper, what hits the ground first?" The issue with carbs is that they're typically quite calorific already and lots of carb based food is piled high with sugar. Removing carbs therefore is just removing calories, but you'll still won't get the losses if you're consuming other high-calorific foods.

There's too much bullshit written about dieting and eating optimisation. If you're overweight, drop takeaways, ready meals, sugary drinks, cereals, crisps, chocolate and alcohol in favour of lean meats, veg, and brown carbs. Calorie count and be honest with yourself about what you're consuming.

Carbs are a great source of short term energy, don't remove them from your diet.

^I'm just talking from my own experience.
There's plenty of proof that low carb diets work, even if it just the fact that your appetite is naturally suppressed.
Read more on it, try it.

When you say they *work,* in what respect are you referring to? If you mean for weight loss, of course they work. But do you want to lose weight as a temporary measure or as a lifelong commitment ie lose weight and maintain? The best way to lose weight and to maintain is the have a healthy balanced diet, omitting / increasing none of the important food groups such as protein and carbs. Every one of them are needed for weight management and for the body to be healthy. There's an illusion that carbohydrates are bad - they are not, there are good and bad carbs, Good carbs are important for weight management and a healthy body.

Yeah when I'm training I don't shy away from carbs in the day time, I just make sure I don't eat them in the evening. Lots of complex carbs in the morning is all good because they give you a sustained level of energy.

Looks like I will be getting my shoulder fixed before the summer is out but I have an exam in august so I'm not sure how I'm going to be managing that. Will be up to six months of physio after the op before I can do any fighting though.:(
