What is your current supplement regimen and why you use them

6 grams is A LOT of vit C. I would consider droping the dosage by quite a bit- 1g is PLENTY, especially if you eat a lil bit of fruit along with it.

I'm a follower of the teachings of Linus Pauling on the subject. I have felt the best that I have in ages since being on the 6g a day.

I also think several grams of Vitamin C are fine, especially if you use a mineral ascorbate rather than ascorbic acid.

@dwfan
Prescribed or not, you should keep monitoring your zinc and copper status being on such a high dose.
Watch it, you could get fevers and nausea... If that ever occurs, seek a doctor.

My new regimen-

Milk thistle 2x a day
Coral calcium 2x a day
2 fish oils at night
a good multivitamin

Cant really tell if its doing me any good, but I like taking them. I just barely am on my second day of the milk thistle but I drink a lot and am hoping it will help my liver function better.

I was concerned to see a lot of BLers post of 5-htp use in combination with B6.

Basically, using B-vitamins in combination with 5-HTP just means you are wasting your money buying 5-HTP as the B6 is causing the hydroxytryptophan to be converted into serotonin in your liver.

As you can probably imagine from reading the above statementt, using 5-HTP with B6 can actually put your health at risk as serotonin in the peripheral blood is not benign. Serotonin causes not only harmless diarrhea and nausea, but in certain people with serotonin secreting tumors, it can cause heart failure.

This effect can also be seen with dietary intake of only modest amounts of serotonin, and the source I learnt this from actually goes on to refer medical literature of a case where South Sea islanders developed right heart fibrosis as a result of eating green banana mash (matuki), which poisons them with its serotonin content.

If you are interested in learning more, just go here I do believe there is a thread on BL regarding this matter that you should also refer to.

^^ BTW, here is the link to the thread I alluded to above.

The OP actually refers to the same study and discussion I linked to above. The thread loses the plot a bit (as BL threads tend to do ;) ), but it hits on some good points.

Here is what I take, but I would take quite a bit more if I could afford it:

1 standard multi vitamin 100% DV on most things
1-4 vitamin C tabs spread throughout the day (about 500% DV in each one)
1-2 B vitamin tabs spread through 2 meals
1-4 grams fish oil spread throughought day with meals

Occasionally I'll take some calcium if I haven't had any dairy products that day.

All are taken for general health. The fish oil is also taken for brain health, and because some studies indicate it may facilitate weight loss.

If I had the money I would love to take some branch chain amino acids, smart pills like piracetim, and something for joint health. Trying a cycle of creatine would be nice too, since my recovery times on lifting are so pathetic.

Edit: I forgot whey protein which I don't really consider a supplement because it is food.

flaxseed

why dont u put some whole flaxseed into your whey powder then run it thru the blender for a minute or two....some ice and water too

it will give u more good fat, lignins, and fiber

i put in an ounce, but start with less till u see how ur body likes it

That is a good idea since I eat a lot of the stuff (usually 3-5 servings a week). Plain whey isolate isn't very versatile because it is absorbed quickly, making it ideal for post workout but a poor protein choice for other meals. Eating it with fats slows down gastric emptying though, making it ok for regular meals.

How does a whey shake taste with flax in it? ALso, could you remind me what the benifits are of lignins?

i use a flavored soy protein powder i get from puritan pride. it has almost no carbs..i'm on an atkins type plan. i find that flax is pretty flavor neutral to me. but recently i started adding cinnamon to my shake cause of the recent hype that it help sugar metabolism and lowers cholesterol.
i sweeten the shake with stevia...the white powder

just experiment and see wut works for u

daily:

pharmaceuticals:

20mg dextroamphetamine SA spansule

supplements:
1 multivitamin tablet
2 500mg choline citrate capsules
2 100mg 5-htp capsule (as an adjunct to dexedrine for treatment of depression)
200mg-1.5g caffeine (as memory and thought speed enhancer and general stimulant.)

note: taking large amounts of caffeine with dexedrine can be dangerous but, for some reason, does not adversely affect my heart rate or blood pressure. do not combine the two unless you are absolutely sure that you won't end up with hypertension or some such.

occasional:

1 50ug Huperzine A tablet (as nootropic, very rarely as it can also have an adverse effect on memory if too much is used)
1 ground betel nut capsule (as potentiator of caffeine)
1-2 rockstar energy drinks (lots oof caffeine, lots of vitamins and nootropics)

reasons:

mostly either for depression or as cognitive enhancers.

Who prescribed you dexamphetamine for depression? Psychostimulants do not represent a useful treatment for depression. They produce focus and euphoria, but not relief from depression. Their efficacy subsides with time.

my body chemistry is very atypical and i have had very severe adverse reactions to traditional antidepressants such as SSRIs(clinical paranoia, facial and body tics) and i can't tolerate tricyclics. saying that they do not represent a useful treatment for depression (in me) would be wrong at best. i have been taking it for just over a month at this level daily and have not experienced much noticeable loss of efficacy, merely a stabilization of the effect. i have not had one single depressive episode since i began taking it, i used to have at least four severe/borderline suicidal depressive episodes per week so you can't say that it's not an effective antidepressant in me, atypical yes, ineffective no. also, it tends to calm me down rather than speed me up.

Why can't you tolerate the tricyclics, out of interest? I'd ask if you'd tried aurorix/manerix, but you're in the USA and (stupidly) its not licenced there.

If the dexamphetamine is giving you relief, it might suggest a noradrenic problem. I would have thought reboxetine (Edronax) might help, but I'm not sure if that's licenced in the US...

What about some of the atypical antidepressants? Remeron (mirtazapine) or Serzone (nefazodone)?

i can't tolerate tricyclics because of their (mild) anticholinergic effects, i have extreme adverse reactions to anything anticholinergic (i can't even take a diphenhydramine for allergies, it just makes them worse) as a result of atropine/scopolamine poisoning about two years ago (i have been slowly regaining my mental faculties ever since), mirtazepine (tetracyclic, btw) and nefazodone for the same reason (nefazodone, as with trazodone, is also an antipsychotic sedative that can cause liver damage, priapism [to be blunt, i don't want to have to get blood drained from my cock with a syringe!] and severe weight gain [i have, over the summer, dropped from 221lbs to 195lbs {at 5'8.5" tall}, i am NOT going to put on that poundage again!]).

and no, reboxetine is not available in the US.

also, i tend to have a diet high in tyramine containing foods (dairy products, meats etc.) though moclobemide seems to have less dietary restrictions than other MAOIs (a little off topic but, i know one particularly nutty mathematician/engineer [iq probably 185-195] who was on a high dose daily regimen of iproniazid and an SSRI [i can't remember which] for several years and was completely fine. weird no?)

Just for your info, I was on moclobemide for 6 months. There's no dietary restrictions whatsoever.
