what is the best college football conference?

^ We should only send 4 teams this year, UK, Tenn, Vandy, and Florida should slide in. Florida loses in the 32, I think both Vandy and Tenn could make it to the Elite 8, (Vandy played better on the road than they did at home down the stretch), But those are good predictions.

Notre Dame and the Big Ten remind me of a sitcom couple – How I Met Your Fighting Irish, or maybe Modern Big Ten Family. Whenever one side is ready to hook up, the other isn’t. This sitcom has been running for more than 80 seasons. The Irish have a problem. If the Big Ten takes from the Big East, and the Big East comes to Notre Dame and says help us or get out, where do the Irish go? Where do they play basketball?

Big Ten fans should just give up their dream of stomping on Notre Dame on an annual basis. they are never going to do it, mostly because of money.

The SEC's 49 selections were 15 more than the next conference. The Big Ten had 34, the ACC had 31, the Big 12 had 30 and the Pac-10 had 29.

The SEC also ruled this year's draft in terms of premium selections, producing 23 players taken in the first three rounds. That was eight more than the Pac-10, which had 15 players go in the first three rounds.

The SEC has now led or tied for the most selections in the NFL draft for 11 of the last 13 seasons and for the last four drafts.

Since 1990, the SEC has had 782 total selections in the NFL draft, an average of 37.2 selections per year. The Big Ten is second with 672 selections.

The Pac 10? Seriously? I don't think they did well at all in the bowls right?

I think the Big 10 and Big 12 are pretty much a tie. But the SEC is #1 by far, as much as it pains me to admit.
 
Agreed. Oregon, Arizona, Cal, Stanford, and Oregon State? Not to mention Arizona got beat as if it were a mid major.

if you're going to say something as ridiculous as this... it's best to back it up.

as far as projections for this coming year, who do you all predict to be in the top?

I will say:

1) Big 10
2) SEC
3) Pac 10
4) Big 12
5) ACC

I think that the Big 10 should be set this year with OSU gunning for the National Championship. although the SEC has lost some players, they should still be solid in a more defensive oriented conference. the Big 12 has lost some great offensive weapons (and Ndamakung Suh) so I am putting the Pac 10 ahead of them. the ACC will probably ride on the coat-tails of Miami U.

How is the Pac 10 not strong?? Yeah I do agree their bowl showing last year was crap.. But in past 5 years it has been a top conference.. Oregon did great last year (besides Boise), should have beat Ohio State in the Rose bowl but Blunt choked and fumbled on the ten yard line to lose the game.. USC has been a power house for almost a decade now, we'll see what happens now without Pete Carrol. But they always get great recruits no matter who coached.. Fuck USC though. Oregon State has consistently been in the top 25 without much recognition. Arizona, Stanford, Washington not to strong. UCLA beat Tennessee @ Tennessee and we all agree that SEC is the strongest. Cal for some reason never reaches their potential (although they're rugby team is incredible) but they have been great in the last few years and fall flat on there faces at the end of the season. I stand by what I say about the Pac 10.

My question is the Big 10? You have to be kidding me? Penn State.. crap (although I have full respect for Joe Paterno). Ohio State always choke when they get to the big game and play real teams because the conference is not strong. They also lost to a shitty USC team at home. Michigan.. crap. Michigan state, Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois, Purdue.. Really? Wisconsin and Iowa are usually the only underrated team in that conference. On to the ACC and Big East... hahaha not even going to get into those.

I would definitely like to hear your honest opinions..


Oh yeah.. The WAC is Wack! Boise play real teams for an entire season and we'll see how you do (although that bowl game against Oklahoma was Incredible!).. same thing goes for TCU and Utah in the Mountain West.

I like em, n respect em, (the team that is )but there is something about buckeye fans that just always seems "over confident" (i guess would be the best way to put it)
 
Buckeye fans have been blessed by the football gods.

usually I try to keep my Buckeye love in check, but I strongly believe that this year they will contend for the National Championship. sure they have choked the last three years (not including last year's great Rose Bowl win) however they really didn't deserve to be in that separate National Championship.

Terelle Pryor should be beastly, and the schedule thing is just bullshit. Ohio State plays in a conference that has been average the last couple years but will be the conference to beat this year. Iowa, Wisco, OSU, PSU will be in the top 20 easily.

Ohio State played Texas and USC for two years in a row and this year OSU plays Miami U. tell me - what teams did your college football team schedule for an out-of-conference game? what teams have the SEC EVER scheduled??
 
^^ My team is FSU

they scheduled Oklahoma, BYU, n Florida (which i would say is pretty decent)

yes in years past they have toughed it out w/ USC n Tx but this year Miami is there only rough outta conference game

i would say this year FSU definatly scheduled a harder outta conference schedule

but i know this aint about who's better, FSU or OSU, cuz i aint tryin to argue that

Still think its despicable what they did to Bowden though

but i guess if i had to say i had a 2nd fav team it'd be UT cuz im in Tx, n yes thier outta conference schedule (Rice, Wyoming, UCLA) is weaker then OSUs this year

MDspecialist, Oregon lost by 9 to OSU, so an Oregon TD would've made them lose by 2, so yes they still would have lost even with the TD.

penn state crap? They have been a consistenly good team for years, and they beat lsu in sec country...osu always chokes? so you forgot about last year?
too funny.

but in all honesty it's kinda hard to say in may who the best conferences will be in fall. let's ask this question in october when everyone has had time to play some.
 
I understand the pride and respect Ohio State Fans have for there football team.. and I'm not going to sit and say they are a bad team.. but I do not believe the Big 10 is above the Pac 10 or the Big 12. In the last decade the Big 10 has had poor showings in bowls and Ohio State has been the only team to consistently make to bowl games.. The last National Championship OSU won was the 2003 Fiesta Bowl against Miami where there definitely was pass interference that wasn't called against Ohio State in the end zone. 2007 and 2008 when Ohio went, they got wooped by Florida and beat by LSU. Went two times in a row and got beat.. showing of a weaker conference to me. When it comes to the Pac 10 and Big 10 the Pac 10 has dominated the Big 10 at the Rose Bowl in the last decade. Last year there was still a bit of time when Blunt fumbled so if it was a TD then it would have been a different ball game. Penn State has been consistently good for the past years but they've been the Cal of Big 10.. they just can't win when it matters. (Iowa last year..@ home?). And the Big 12 is always a force to contend with. 1) They always get some of the best recruits in the nation 2) Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Oklahoma State are always strong teams 3) There shittier teams Missouri, Kansas, and Texas A&M are usually pretty good too. In the past five even ten years the Big 10 has not proven itself to be a better conference then the Pac 10, Big 12, and especially the SEC. And when the teams in the SEC have to play Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Ole miss, Arkansas, Kentucky, South Carolina, LSU, and Alabama why would you need to play other conferences? But your right smotpoker lets see what happens this year and then talk.
 
Ahhh one of my favorite discussion subjects. :) Let's just say for now things may be changing drastically pending the potential expansions of the Big 10 and Pac-10. With the hiring of Larry Scott as Pac-10 commissioner, I'm just gonna tell all you doubters of the Best in the West to look out. Dude's gonna be looking to make the conference even more of a monster. Hell, there's even potential talk about Texas joining, which would be insane. It's all wait and see at this point.
