what genre is big in your city?

Thankfully American Rap is so dead around here its great. Im in Australia and no offense to you yanks but I hate your rap, though you got some great Dj's. Theres a little Aussie hip hop that I like around here.

I know that aint real electronic music though. There used to be a fair few Emo's/Hardcore freaks/metal heads around the latter 3 I know enough about because alot of my bodyboarder mates are into it, I havent seen much of that lately but I saw a few signs on telegraph poles that a few good hardcore bands are coming to my town, I dont mind post hardcore and some metal, I cant stand emo though.

As for electronic music coz Im in a rural area its quite limited and most of the clubs play top 40 crap but every now and then a good Trance/Hardstyle or house/electro DJ will come to one of the clubs around and it always sells out. I have never heard anything about DnB, I dont even really know what it is but neither does anyone else I know. Theres a pretty good Psytrance scene too but its very underground and for me not having a car its too much of a hassle to get there. The most likely place id go is to catch a train down to a place called Home Nightclub that has different nights and the one particular night we all love Is called Sublime, you may have heard of it and they play Hardstyle/core, Gabber, Hard Trance, Uplifting trance, plus a few random genres every now and then.

then theres Chinese Laundry which is the House/Electro club with some of the rarer genres coming in every now and then, Ive never been there but ive heard they play a lot of different stuff but mostly housey electro I hear.

Personally I like Hard trance, Hardstyle,That new breed of Indie/Electro and House in that order. A few of my fav DJ's/Groups are Pnau, VanShe Tech, Showtek, Tatanka, Dj Isaac, Hellraiser, Ladyhawke, Cut Copy and much more.

anything from PsyGoa House to Hip Hop

Los Angeles has an eclectic taste so its harder to pin point it

I can say that LA is into:

Drum And Bass
Jungle
Every type of House music imaginable
Hip Hop
The Styles (i.e. Hardstyle, jumpstyle, etc.)
Rock and all its sub genres
Dance
Electronica
Techno
Trance (all all of its sub genres)
Happy Hardcore
Trip Hop
Indie

and the list could go on and on and on

the city where I lived before moving over here was all about minimal ... and some house.

A Bunch of fucking scene Kids.
who are afraid of drugs and experiencing life.
Who enjoy to spend countless thousands of dollars on make up and hair dye.
Who Walk around in groups like some kind of neo gothic sheep with facial sparkles
Playing music that makes you want to destroy yourself.
There is an Example.

I live in Perth, west oz and I'd say we have a pretty broad coverage of electronic music. I have heard from mutliple sources, that Perth is the DnB centre of Australia. Dubstep is coming up in a big way here too, fucking awesome since I love both of them so much.

i fucking hate all that hard crap

although, to my shame i will admit that at one very early phase in my dance music career i did attend hard trance/hard house events... dont know how i put up with it, must have been the drugs!

anyway in dublin at the moment theres pretty much most types of electronic music repersented, not much in the way of hard house anymore thankfully tho

the main one would be techno definitely, then followed by house, drum n bass, dubstep etc.. scene is pretty healthy

Those that cant dance, will blame it on the music %)

Bristol, UK - the birthtown of drum and bass! jungle, dubstep, reggae and dub are massive here too. it's such a diverse city that there's something here for everyone but i think they're the biggest genres here.

Ouch that sucks, Pittsburgh is pretty big into DnB

Lima, Perú (from biggest scene, to smallest one):

1) Reggaeton / Latin pop - I don't really like it, but it's really big in South America.
2) Salsa / Cumbia - This scene has been around here since 60s-70s.
3) Techno / House - This is the only EDM that is big in here, 2006 was electro year, 2007 was minimal year, 2008 was techno year, 2009 is tech house year. This is the only music scene in here that I'm into.

The rest of the scenes are relatively marginal, the market in here isn't big enough for more music scenes.

Yea I would love to live in Bristol, got lots of mates there.

As for what is big where we all live, I'd say not dance music for the most part. Most people don't give a shit about our little corner of the musical spectrum until they want to exploit it for a movie or commercial. As for dance/club/rave music, I'd say Dubstep is killing it right now.

Florida Breaks! i dont wanna sound like im hating on any music, but doesnt the same beat over and over and over like in house music or dubstep or hardstyle get ridiculously annoying after a while? only my opinion.....

Adelaide here:

Electro of course is huge, like everywhere in australia, all the mainstream clubs play it, with maybe a little pop-trance thrown in.

In the underground/rave scene hardcore dominates. Especially dutch hardcore, but freeform/UK is around a fair bit as well, with hard house/nrg second, though dimnished in recent years and hardstyle is really starting to catch on, being played at most of the regular hard dance nights. Hardcore consistantly pulls the rave crowd, hard house is hit and miss, sometimes it packs the place but othertimes it's pretty quiet, hardstyle is the same, but rising in popularity.

Used to have a decent DnB scene, though my impression is it's faded in recent years. That's purely an outside perspective though, I like dnb but I don't enjoy dancing to it for long and I don't like the scene so I don't go to the parties, but there don't seem to be as many DnB acts coming through as there were 2 years or so ago when I moved here.

Techno/trance are around, but definately not the focus. The mainstream crowd prefer electro, the underground crowd prefer the really hard stuff. There are smaller random nights, but usually they're just put on for a small crowd who are happy to hear the music they enjoy in a club, in my experience.

Hardstyle makes me want to blow my brains out, ITS THAT BAD. How do you even lump dubstep and house with hardsyle?? Hardstyle is the worst sounding music ever-worse than happy hardcore, gabber, booty house, and hard house/etc..
