what genre is big in your city?

I believe that the genre of music around the different cities in the US are very relative. Many bands, DJs, soloists etc. tour around everywhere. I personally like all kinds of music includiong electronic music. I live in gainesville FL and virtually every kind of genre is played in this town. One week I remember going to see The Flaming Lips on a thursday then the next night planet of the drums was having an event at another club in the city. They are drum and bass electronic music if you don't know already.. deiselboy, ak1200, DJ Dara etc.. THEN Less than Jake the night after. To get to my point, if you look hard enough I believe that any genre can be found if you search hard enough.

Calgary, AB

drum and bass and jungle have been predominant for years, but dubstep is catching up.

bump

Albuquerque: DUBSTEP like a mo-fo, there seems to be about 2-3 shows a week that are mostly dubstep, usually with some breaks and DnB tossed in for fun. Fun, but gets a little old. BRING ON THE PSYTRANCE

--when I left Detroit about six years ago, the only station that played electronic was WJLB (awww YeeeEEAaah, WE LIVE AT THE RIVAH ROCK!) and they mostly played the new ghetto house (DJ Godfather was the first who got big) and alot of recycled 90's Chicago house music. You might get a classic thrown in there every once in awhile. The CBC2 station in Canada (especially the program "Brave New Waves") played some off the wall shit. That was definitely my favorite station. After midnight they'd play everything from italo disco, A.D.U.L.T., Dj Shadow, and the list goes on and on

--here in Baltimore they created this style of really cheesy house music that samples alot of TV shows and movies. Everyone calls it "club music." But the genre might just be a fad that will die out soon...... who knows?

--I lived down in south Florida for awhile, and there was this station out of Miami that was a 24 hour "Dance music" format. I thought that was kind of unique. They played all bullshit though.

Sounds a lot like KTU in New York City. Every single corner bodega plays that station, and if I walk into several bodegas during a trip to NYC, I'm almost guaranteed to hear one of the following at least once per trip:

* 'Don't Stop Till You Get Enough' or 'Rock With You' by Michael Jackson
* 'Dim All the Lights' or some other early hit of Donna Summer's

The smash hits of disco are enshrined forever in the hearts and minds of New Yorkers by way of KTU.

Toronto: House and Trance is big in the big clubs and the DNB scene here is maaaaasive =p

Toronto is awsome ....

But best place in Canada to party in clubs is Quebec city . Went there a few weeks back . It's soo nice .....

And for my city (Ottawa Canada) there isn't much :( .

There's ametuer rap and some rave . But clubs on a whole are pretty shite to be honest

Southern California. House is huge here. A few top Trance DJ's come here and play house and it pisses me off. Lol Dubstep is coming up too.

well im from miami and alot of people seem to listen to something different. I wouldnt say theres a specific genre but if is electronic music were talking about is would have to b house very beaty uptempo stuff. Im more of a trance person myself...........

Here in N.Scotland, electro/house/techno are all big. Alot of people just into cheesey dance chart music too. And some dubstep and D n' B fans.

It's mainly electro/techno between my mates, some house and fidget house too. I don't really like most dubstep or D n' B, or of the stuff i've heard anyway.

right after hip hopcrap-rap, it seems like "electro" followed by house is the biggest here. or "electro-house" i dunno sometimes genres still dont make sense to me.

Minneapolis - Dubstep and Drum 'n' Bass are pretty big here. I don't identify too much with either genre, unfortunately. I wish there were some breakcore parties here or something but maybe I'm just not looking hard enough.
