what genre is big in your city?

Technomusik is what's big here.

In fact, we're still recuperating from last week's 2010 Miami Winter Music Conference.

Minneapolis - Dubstep and Drum 'n' Bass are pretty big here. I don't identify too much with either genre, unfortunately. I wish there were some breakcore parties here or something but maybe I'm just not looking hard enough.

You're right about the dubstep, but that will pass in a few years... I hope. I'd say Minneapolis is quite the techno city as well, we got some good producers here that are gaining international recognition and regularly have some awesome djs/producers coming through here.

Alcotrash - A genre that combines cheesy electro-house with choruses from various 90s hits and other current top40 type stuff.

I actually don't mind it when I am drinking and trying to pick chicks up. :)

Rochester is big with DnB and Dubstep. The thing that is cool is because of Eastman Conservatory of Music and MCC (which has a great music program for a community college) there are a lot of instrumental bands that incorporate DnB/Dubstep into their sound. I love the idea of live instrumentation making crazy DnB jams. Very good musicians and DJs here.
RootsCollider and AudioInFlux are two big bands on the scene right now, both have top-notch drummers and keyboard players. And there's a group called RipRoc Music which hosts a bunch of great up and coming DJs/Producers of DnB/"whatever"step.

Techno has always been big in Detroit, as well as House. The scene is getting flooded with dubstep though. When I used to live in Chicago it was all house, dubstep was just sneaking into the scene. Now, when I go to Chicago dubstep is errwhere.
