Test driving Aldi's Ballycastle aka cheap arses Baileys Irish Cream. It's £3.75 a bottle 8o

It's less sweet, less creamy sickly but more whisky. Pretty damn delicious. Buy when you can %) I'll be stocking up.

Bought coffee machine (Dolce Gusto) hot chocolates pods - can see how the Ballycastle would be a nice addition to that topped up with extra whipped cream and a grating of cinnamon.

BTW, I've had their version of baileys, it really is quite nice.

It's about 10 quid cheaper per bottle than Baileys 8( But a lot nicer.

When you are over next, I'll give Shambles a quick lesson on using the coffee machine so he can get into making some creative drink mixes ;)

Of course you are both welcome to come up with any recipe you fancy to trial - we're always happy to sample an experimentation. Drugs, ice-cream etc - all good!
 
Moving swiftly on...

I iz currently drinking cut-price schnapps cut wiv el cheapo fizzy pineapple and coconut stuff. 11% actual juice apparently - can taste it too. It's too sweet cos of all the added artificial sweeteners but still tastes better than most of its ilk.
 
I read that as shampoo instead of schnapps 8o

Might be a better taste minus the sugar overload...says her after 2 generous Ballycastles 8) No ice to water it down either.




Fuck those sugary carbs :\ Bastard things.

I'm very partial to that Aldi knockoff Bailey's, K. I'm also very partial to port but it is deadly sweet. I usually stick to a small glass or use bitter lemon as a mixer. Yes, yes it is an auld lady drink but it's also tasty. A good port is best taken neat in small measures though.

I adored the port you and Sadie gifted us. The man not so much, but he made sure he had his of a bit of a share of it. Yep it is sweet and I'm not usually into sweet ( I'm much more of a savoury, crusty gal :)) but pretty layered in flavours.

That was a good bottle though, not that I know anything about port! Really savoured it. Sure it was quite pricey too, you spoil us <3 Delish. I can see how a mixer would work with it and stretch its intense flavour.

Thank you both for it, twas a lovely gift (amongst the rest of your kind spoiling of us). I just wish we'd cracked it open with you, so you could have taught us to taste it properly.

I will take that recommendation on. The man loves Stilton too!



In cheese news the Brodick Blue is enamouring us, also Teviotdate. Discovered whilst working and given samples. One of the perks of the job :)

However neither have the salt crystallisation, that a really old cheddar provides. And that is my forever favourite <3

Try a desert wine, Sauternes if you can get an affordable one with quality blue cheese. Its mindblowing how well they go together.

I wasn't going to drink till i left for Thailand but its Friday and fuck it. Going to open a German Kabinett riesling when it chills down and whip up a red fish curry. I the meantime i will pop up the bottlo and get a 6 pk of Chang to prepare my palate. Hopefully they dont stop booze sales for 30 days when i am there. That would be horrific.

Kate dont go to that site. It's not worth it. She is obsessed. Leave the lurking to her plus every time you go it makes it look like the site is actually getting traffic. Dont give her that satisfaction.

Off for the beer.
 
Last bottle of Coppola's "Sofia"-his take on a classic rose d'Anjou. Getting colder here so I'm moving off chilled wine.

Me too. I'm a bit odd. I do change my wines with the season. It just doesn't feel right drinking a red in summer or a white in winter. It just feels weird to me.

Mix the baileys into the whipped cream - would make a great float for a coffee also. At 4£ a bottle I would be stocking up also.

I'm on water at the moment as suffering from the BBQ last night.

I don't like cream liqueurs but I was in Ballycastle a couple of hours ago. I'm sure you've looked at it many a time from the likes of Kintyre.

I didn't even know they had their own liqueur so I just looked it up. It appears they just use cream from a local creamery which is actually quite far away from Ballycastle (at least it's on the road to Ballycastle).

Ballycastle is a great wee town though. There's always loads of tourists so you always meet interesting people.
