What Are You Drinking? V. Pretty Gay, Turns Out.

On offer 'til the 14th I do believe, Knock. Am quite tempted to get some more in whilst it's relatively cheap cos I doubt it's the kinda thing even I'd try to get pissed on regularly cos it really is sweet. Which does of course mean that I need to buy different booze tonight if I wish to drink more booze and not go into some kinda diabetic coma. Hmm...

Incidentally, poncy as it is, I can't help but agree with the blurb. All that stuff it says on the back label? FACT!

I'm off to see if they've got some. Thanks for the tip! I hope it's a UK wide thing, cos the co-op here is a bit different.

Co-Op in Scotland does not co-operate on this matter. No chocolate shop wine here.

So I'm improvising. Bottle of casillero del diablero and some nice chocolate with orange / spicey stuff from co-op. in microwave? Yes.

edit: yes of course it's disgusting.

:D

And so back to Earth with a bump. Now drinking cheap voddy wiv even cheaper Red Bull equivalent. Only for the caffeine perk though. The rest (well, not all of it cos I have no intention of drinking a half bottle of voddy tonight... famous last words :\) is being mixed with orange juice. Which I've just confirmed is considered a cocktail. Surely it's just a shot + mixer? Call it 'Screwdriver' and you get to charge double the price of a voddy and orange though 8)

I drank it all though and then I made myself another, so it couldn't have been all that bad! Maybe it just needs the right wine.

I added some whisky to the second one :)

Just having a glass of the wine now, with my dinner.

I've got a book '1,000 Cocktails'. I've made about five. They all call for things that I've probably not got, like Angostura bitters, vermouth, etc.

I wrote martini then remembered that martini is a cocktail. Life is so complicated. Even getting pissed is complicated.

Dark rum is my drink of choice. Appletons Special is available from Tesco or Asda for about £15 and does the trick every time. Much better than Captain Morgans, Kraken etc and cheaper. Ever so often Asda seem to get Appletons V/X as well which is a lil more expensive at £20 but is also slightly nicer and easier to drink straight as well.

Much better than ... Kraken

really? I'm not a big rum drinker but I liked kraken. I think I liked it because it came in a jar with a finger hole. Makes swilling so much easier. Have I been conned?

Mailmonkey is a rum drinker but he is doing a space walk at the moment.

Angostura bitters

I used that stuff once when I was a barman. Only the once, mind. It's bitter. Can't recall what I was asked to make that involved it but I do know I had to be instructed on how to make it by the customer. To be fair on myself, it was a bit of an old geezer pub so not the kinda place you expect to be asked to make anything involving Angostura bitters. There were plenty strange lil bottles of "stuffs" behind that bar that I never went near in all the years I worked there. Think that's the case in all pubs though. There's an old man pub around here that seemed to be trying to market itself as a cocktail place for a while cos all above and around the bar was blackboard with a gazillion, multi-coloured cocktails and prices listed. I wouldn't know what more than about three of 'em are and the all cost a bleedin' fortune. Didn't seem to take off as a marketing concept oddly enough. Dunno why they tried in the first place given it's one of those pubs that seems to exist purely so the landlord can have lock-ins with his mates of a weekend. Perhaps they like to drink cocktails when nobody's looking :sus:

Yeah I def liked it, but just found Appletons to be tastier with coke which is my prefered mixer. Also, Kraken is more expensive as it's around £20 or over, and for that price the V/X is better, especially if you want to drink it neat. Give it a try if you haven't already.

The Kraken bottle does look cool as fuck tho :)

I threw out a bottle of angostura bitters and a jar of maraschino cherries today. They were out of date. There were a few umbrellas and straws in with the doilies and napkins but they stayed. Its been too long since I've had a cocktail party :|

The chocolate wine looks lubbly. I want!

Had a few glasses cabernet shiraz with dinner and then some orange squash, now onto a lovely glass of chilled chardonny. I fancy a cuppa but its too late for caffeine this time of night :\

maraschino cherries

Rancid things so they are :!

Was a piece on that Nature's Weirdest Events (I think it's called? My memory of late... :|) about bees in New York making strangely-coloured honey. Apparently they were feeding on the syrupy effluent from a local Maraschino cherry factory. That and M&Ms (mmm... blue honey <3).

Yup =D

(unless it just so happens we both witnessed a shonkily-labelled batch. or even the very same bottle. has anybody ever seen two bottles of angostura bitters in the same room?!?)

:sus:

Hello kate <3

QFT.

all I remember about angostura bitters is the label doesn't fit the bottle properly! amirite?

Hello kate <3

Yep, the label was a bit on the generous size. It came in a can too, it was quite pretty so its now storing pencils. It has 44.7% alcohol content -all I could manage was a drop on my tongue! Vile stuff 8(

Hello you *hug* <3

They smelt of bakewell tart. If I'd been on my toes I'd have baked something experimental with them before they went out of date.

*hugsnoo*<3

Quite fancy a mojoto now. (sp)

^^
Quite like a bakewell tart =D.... thinking of Swampy again 8)

Didn't want to risk eating one, so binned them. Have really lost the plot, we should have been out an all day gig thing for a Clutha fundraiser but I couldn't face it. Spent my Sat eve cleaning out and reorganising my kitchen cupboards :| I have a major large amount of curry spices - you'd approve!

Been experimenting with making curry base sauces like they do in British Indian restaurants as the basis of all curries. It works but you do collect a LOT of spices.

Did the chocolate wine make you feel sicky?

I stopped after the second mug (small mug and not filled to the top or owt) of the choc wine, Kate. It's really tasty but I wouldn't fancy swigging it by the pint or owt. Treat it like Bailey's or summat: a glass or two is lush but that's the limit.

And yes, I do envy your massive spice collection :!

Since MamaSham let me loose on her spice selection and take home enough to semi-fill a jar with each I've done a lot more cooking from scratch. It's definitely more inspiring to see a range of potential taste sensations laid afore yer very peepers. Also, I made a curry one night for MamaSham and her fella over the festives when nobody else wanted to cook. Her fella doesn't much like spiced food (especially hot spicing) but he went out of his way to compliment me on the curry and lapped it up. Actually he used a knife and fork rather than his tongue but the underlying point remains.

We still on for that mutual cullen skink sometime, m'dear?
