Welcome to the NEW new Bluelight!

does this new forum software support different skins? ala invasion board? I'd like to see something a little less disjointed, it looks like a bunch of post-it notes one after another rather than a forum
 
I think the new layout is great.... even tho im not the biggest fan of purple.... a dark electric blue would b nice :)

I'm getting used to it. :)

Like everyone has said before me, the only thing I really don't like is the space between everyones posts. Makes it much more disjointed and harder to just skim through.

I hate just repeating what other people has said but still....

i'm getting used to it quickly, it's really not that different

though i think i'll be getting sore eyes from squinting alot to read the writing, but i'll soon figure out how to change it

Your little behind the scenes look... ;)

We were first going to go with ubbthreads (made by the same company as ubb), but it was coded like a pile of steaming shit, so we abandoned it.

Then we moved to vbulletin (this system). I recommended it, and had planned on doing most of the work, but at the time got a shoulder reconstruction. That was a few months ago. The site owner (skydancer) did the bulk of the work, and as such deserved the bulk of the credit. I put in tens of hours. He put in well over 100. On top of the 20+ hours I figure he must put in each week.

He'll never ask for thanks, but you're welcome to email [email protected] and just say he did a nice job:)

PS There are a few bugs, but we figured ppl would need their BL fix (after there were 10000 hits a day to the front page) more than they'd need aq weeks downtime to correct minor bugs.

PPS I really do recommend emailing him to say he kicks ass. You'd be suprised how few times he hears it.:)
 
DOH its taken me nearly a year to get even close to 100 measly posts i'll be OLD by the time i get 1000.

me thinks i may have to hit the lounge :\

If you ask me, I think the space between each post HELPS with reading 8o

More white space = easier on eyes :)

I have voiced this before, but I think it needs reiterating...GET RID OF THE FCKN AVATARS!!!!

Not only does it eat bandwidth and make the pages load slowly...it also makes people who are too lazy to find/make their own avatar feel like 2nd class citizens...fuck it.

All in all it's a welcome change though...

u have the option to disable avatar and signature displays from ur user control panel

...it also makes people who are too lazy to find/make their own avatar feel like 2nd class citizens...fuck it.

firstly, avatars are under trial at the moment, if it has been decided we keep avatars, i believe the prerequisites (1000+ posts) for having avatars will be reassessed.

secondly, if people are too lazy to make or use their own avatars, that's really their problem, isnt it? 8(
 
Okay, okay, okay, I think I've managed to learn to use VB (not the beer). Now that the load times are not spanning aeons, I think I may learn to love it in time.

I bet it takes me less than a week to become really pissed off with the colour tags... actually i'm more pissed off that they don't spell colour correctly.

Jake honey can I have my link to a particular post button back? I used that lots and I really miss it (if it's there, ignore me... it's your fault my brain is fried after all :p )

Oh yeah and I'm a bit annoyed about how small the avatar thing is... I was going to use my breasts but it said they were too big ;););) Anyhow, I'm sure it's smaller than when we tested it because I had to crop the pic i used on the test board yet again.
 
Well it's running smoothly now except the bluelight icon on the top left and the rest of the 'icons' on the top right page aren't working for me... but it's all good, although it's kind of weird seeing blue (or lavender??) instead of the green most of us are used to...

but still nice! ;)

ps: 1000 posts at least to have an avatar - posting blitz soon?
 
A suggestion; avatars shouldn't be based on post count. If you can, make it anyone who's been registered for more than a year.

I don't think fonts will get annoying at all.
 
there will be a deteriation in the quality of posts if u need a certain level of posts to get one... I speak from a days experience=D

If it gets to that stage, I'm wondering if there is a way we can delete all the idiotic posts that are just spam to get to avatar status... I'm sure there is.

Or maybe the board staff will just decide to prevent the people who spam the forums to get their avatar from ever being able to have one.

Then again, the easiest option would be to just remove everyone's ability to have an avatar and wouldn't that be a shame?

I'm getting seriously pissed at the people who think it's cool to spam just so they can get their stupid avatar. It's a picture ffs, and the more people do this the less likely the board staff will decide to keep the feature.

I say kill the lot and let only mods have em ;)
