Welcome to the NEW new Bluelight!

To everyone that wants the "old" bluelight back - do they realise that when we upgraded to UBB6 there were exactly the same comments... "I like it, but I liked the old one better", etc...

Just give it time, and wait for the bugs to be ironed out before passing judgement... :)

vBulletin does a good job, but all the fancy graphics have just fucked it up. Get rid of the borders around each post and ill appreciate it more. much more. And bandwidth? opera states the index page is 13k, so i like that (some other vB forums are up to 300k)

erm...I agree that the space between posts and the individual tabs for each post make the discussion very disjointed.

and I'm glad the loading times are going to be reduced with the new server.

the rest is great :)
 
Yay my star has survived the trip!

I dunno.. I think the new site is rather swanky. Infact I only noticed things like the individual replies when it was mentioned on here :p

With the whole d/l time thing... I found that only occurred the first few times that I tried opening things, now that the images are cached it works just fine and dany. Ofcouse dialup I can understand, but I'm sure theres a bit of a server load atm due to all the d/ln of the new scheme.

Theres so many gadgets and options now, I'm sure I still havent found half of them yet.. but its cool.

Oh.. and for some BL may be "just a forum".. but to others its seriously an addiction heh. So things and stuff arent always bad :)

I'm never gonna get an avatar.. I just dont post enough crap.

I love the fact that it was all done whilst I was on holidays and I wasn't one of the poor souls who kept refreshing bluelight to see if it was working yet. I hate the fact that it took so damn long to actually get done and made Jake have to be anti-social.

I like it, then again I've had some time to get used to the way it was going to look and feel, and there are very likely still some little road blocks to be removed as yet.

There are still things I don't like, but in general I think it works much much better than before and the pro's far outweigh the con's... it will just take some time for everyone to get used to.

Scuse the tired rambling, it's been a long two weeks :)

Big props to the people that put this together and seem to tirelessly keep BL cranking over. In a fortnight no one will be able to remember the old board - viva la revolution! and or something.

It's growing on me.

I found this morning that it took a long long time to load up, even on ADSL, but now it's loading up fine.

Still getting used to the colours though!
 
Just to make it totally obvious... can everyone please try to deal with the load times for a little while. It's already been stated that we so far have only done the software upgrade, as the hardware upgrade was delayed due to circumstances beyond our control.

The fundamental reason the site looks different is because we're using new software. This isn't because we wanted to make it pretty, it's because this software is more flexible, has a better search engine, and finding information will be easier. The fact that it looks different is a side-effect.

We're only just over 12 hours old with this new stuff, so please give us a chance to get everything settled. If you don't like it then that's your right, but try and save the harsh judgements until things are bedded down a bit.

Wow I think the new design is really beautiful :) I like the fresh colour and the new features. Great job to all those involved in the change.

I don't have a problem with the load times, and I'm on dial-up at the moment. To think that it used to take months to send mail to, and recieve messages from people!! Now that it happens in a matter of seconds its still too long for some.. Go figure ;)

The only thing I have a problem with is the fact that you need 1000 posts to have a custom avatar :( That seems a bit unfair. It's like some kind of class system! Everyone should have the right to express themselves with a lil picture. Equality for all! :p
 
I didn't know you had to have 1000 posts or more to have a custom avaitor ?
I think there will a lot more poinless posts going around just so people can get a avaitor. Just like on inthemix there was a lot of pointless threads and posts.

Looks very pretty.


I am still getting used to it as I am very fearful of change....but I am sure it will get all friendly on me in no time.

Overall it looks heaps more professional. The older version had its charms but it did look a little like something a 1st year multimedia student could have designed.

I don't like the space inbetween each posts.. really interrupts the continuity of the conversation.
