Warehouse Project

ha the entrance to the Venue in Edinburgh (sadly now turned into an art gallery) was a flaky black-painted fire exit with no sign which opened onto a set of concrete steps leading into the basement. Wee wooden table at the bottom with a girl sat taking your fiver and putting it in a metal cash box.

The best places usually do look something like that. This venue in town is pretty decent as well - SWG3

See, that sounds like a proper club. (knock's one.. ptch's looks a bit fancy. Gorgeous lighting though!)

See also Jilly's in Manchester. I like that this was probably the only time it ever saw a cleaner, and that was for filming 24 Hour Party People..

The Venue, shortly after closing down in 2006:

Really hard finding photos of it from the 90s. I don't think anyone thought Pure would ever stop, so why take pictures? And of course, no mobile phones.

As a 16 year old, one of the better atmospheres/nights ive had in Sankeys, shits over the ketted shuffle deep house queefs anyway.

It is sad to see the grimier, "alternative" venues shut down, I suppose it's just down to "economics", there is more money to be made catering for the financially upmarket (cultural gutter), footballer/wannabe WAG set, the Friday night after-office champagne and VIP lounge crew, you know OTW and his dentist pals (sorry OTW just kidding ;) you wouldn't get in to the VIP area in those leggings).

It's the same with pubs, in Edinburgh this year I've seen two of the last few remaining traditional workers' boozers going over to the wine bar/gastro mould :(

Memories of underage drinking, cheap drugs and bad sex. And the stickiest floor imaginable. :D

That place was unbelievable come 5am on a comedown.

Aye man, it's pretty shit. The amount of G1 (soulless group of shite clubs/pubs) venues round here seems to grow by the day, while good, independent, "real" places are always on the brink of shutting down.

That'll be Glasgow alumni selling you your city's 'edgy authenticity' back to you in repackaged and sanitised form at a sizeable profit.

We call it 'The Northern Quarter' around here.

Never been to the Warehouse project but I was going to go up to the night curated by Four Tet on the 2nd. Unfortunately it seems like the event has sold out..

Same here, regretfully without the drugs. I still miss that place. :|

Sounds like quite a few of us probably crossed paths at Jilly's at some point.

Back on track anyway ;)

Whilst we look forward to the start of the new year, we would like to announce that the WHP season will not take place as normal in 2014.
There will be a handful of special events but no full series as there has been for the last 8 years.
2015 marks 10 Years of The Warehouse Project and we will be ready to do that justice. Please stay tuned for all updates.

So they are either going to do a few events round the UK, OR do a few events round different places in Manchester? Anyway they always change venue so hope they got somewhere decent for 2015, not that far away. :|

:( That means all the cocks might move back into Sankeys and fill it with even more cocks, or could be a good opportunity for a few more smaller venues to take on the baton!

Manchester 'Death Club' set to ring the changes as police crack down on illegal drug usage.

Club forced by Manchester police to "take safety and security seriously" admist mounting pressure in the face of more hospitalisations.

The Warehouse Project - Manchester's certified death club - has accepted a raft of police recommendations in order to help crack down on illegal drug use on the premise and keep local community members safe.

The club has suffered a backlash from the community recently due to its ill advised liberal approach to allowing heroin usage during their club nights. A 28 year old woman from Gainsborough in Lincolnshire described the scene on Saturday night as "carnage" and that she'd "never seen anything like it before - Dutty needles were all over the place and the air was thick with the smell of unwashed jeans."

Police met with club owners today to enforce a series of changes in the club. They will take effect immediately and include the removal of strobe lighting, a time limit on toilet usage and the introduction of a stock market-like system for the sale of drugs.

Police Inspector Mike Doherty said; "This is a good step taken by the club in order to keep our young people safe. We know most of the toerags coming to the venue want to take MDMA and other similar drugs like Meow Meow, so we have devised a scheme that works like the stock market - the more demand for the commodity, the higher the price. This way by the time we think people will want to buy drugs into the night, the price will beyond what they can afford."

Plain clothed police are also expected to roam the venue during the weekend nights in order to keep a watchful eye on the success of the new system.

Really wanted to mention Rockworld, but didn't realise there were people on here still mourning its demise. I was talking with a few friends about it, last night. Top pills for a few quid each, and people completely mangled, all over the place, even moshing away to Slipknot, etc. Listening to angry metal never felt so uplifting. Seeing a room full of people cuddling their way through verses of songs about hatred and death was pretty surreal. The place was awash with gurning, smiling, massaging fools, and basically no cunts. The big MDMA drought seemed to be the end for the place, and the 3am hardcore/drum & bass/dance hour was no longer a dance floor FULL of pilled-up, glow stick wielding moshers, passing poppers, fags and water about. If it had stayed open, I reckon they'd have seen some serious improvement in turnover. When it was your birthday, you'd get a 'ten in free' pass, along with yourself, and someone usually had one. You wouldn't think metallers and goths could be so into their drugs. It turns out we're pretty good at it. Best club, ever. The muck just added to it. Even if you didn't touch anything, you still came home with filthy fingernails, and maybe an STD.

I'm thinking about selling our tickets when we get them. Really can't be arsed with the hassle that multiple people are reporting.

Don't get me wrong, still had a really good night and everyone in there has their jaws swinging around etc. But whereas it used to be so accepted there that that was the vibe, now they seem to be making an effort to stamp it out. As long as you're in the crowd and not really obviously out of your mind puking everywhere etc you should be fine. Just make sure you walk straight at the dog on the way in instead of trying to avoid it which is what I think my friend did (instinct I suppose) which is when they pounced on him. Sure you will still have a quality night and if the worst happens and they do surround you they will probably just chuck you out, police unlikely to get involved

Fuck, I'm going Saturday.. I really can't be assed with this shit! I was planning on taking some mushies and some md there, think I'll ditch the mushies! Even on previous years I thought the security was over the top, any worse and I really don't think I can hack it :(

Blah, I quite fancied going to one of the WHP nights next month but this does put me off. Especially as I'm never in a big group and have absolutely no poker face when I'm in a club. Maybe I can play the age card. :|

Am also going this Saturday I think, very nice lineup. Was going to take some 2c-b with me but likewise I don't know if I really fancy doing that now..

Say what you will about the well heeled but at least they open their wallets and pay the staff wages. You don't make any money from the unclean masses who charge up on drinks before they leave home, get their mates in with a 2 for 1 voucher from the back of mix mag then fill up their water bottle in the toilet. That doesn't create an atmosphere, that just produces a grimy house party where someone else has t. Clean up the disco goo from the carpet.

VIP lounges are only good for two things, raking up on a glass top and the 3 minute window to stash your gear as soon as the police enter the front door. Give me a banging dusty dance floor under the stars with a chilly bin full of beers and pate back at my tent any day over a city night club.
