I haven't read any of the content of this thread but the thread title is highly amusing.

it gives us a chance to air our input.

This is your chance :D - You are free to say who you think will be a good mod and why as well as saying who would not be a good mod and why.

If everyone was posting to give their support to somebody they feel would be a good choice (SHM for example) then the mods will know that if SHM was chosen they would be well accepted.

Mailmonkey's idea is more like how things used to be done - it was a lot less formal. You'd get a thread like this, and people would apply in-thread, so you'd get everyone else chipping in to support a particular applicant. It's not a bad idea, in that it helps the mods make sure they're picking someone with some popular support. On the other hand, it can mean that they pick mods who have loads of mates, rather than the best or most knowledgeable. (Probably less of an issue here, given the social side of the forum).

(Actually, before that the forum mods would just pick someone without calling for nominations at all, I think. The reason we have a relatively formal process is so we can get all sorts of applicants, rather than just a clique who are friends with the mods. I think. No reason we couldn't change it, though I trust that the mods would pick someone who would fit in here).

At the end of the day though, however we do the application process, our nominees have to get sr. staff approval once they've been chosen by us. A dodgy candidate would get immediately flagged by them, so the process is pretty sound whichever way we go about the initial stages. I like the system we have in place right now...It allows for applicant confidentiality and productive discussion.

Thanks Infinite Jest,,,,I didn't think it was complete pish.

And I didn't think it was unchangeable either.

I like farmaz a lot as a member, but I think he'd be a shit mod. He misinterprets things a lot, almost everything if there's any reference to himself.

And I doubt he'd want to do it anyway.
