Using benzodiazepenes as alcohol substitutes.

ROCK

I don't like the feeling of being drunk either, although sometimes I drink with my friend but like ebola! said, it feels dirty. The only two benzos that work for me are alprazolam and lorazepam , and by that I mean they put my inhibitions aside and make me a little more euphoric (but not much).

In my opinion, I think that Alprazolam is more euphoric than drinking alcohol. It is more sedating than alcohol. I get the same loss of inhibitions but I can think more clearer than when I am in a drunk stupor from alcohol. Maybe it is just because I've become bored of alcohol, as being a former alcoholic. I feel that Xanax actually has some qualities of an opioid, although I know that it doesn't share any properties. I enjoy the feeling of that floaty buzz kicking in within 10 minutes, my eyes becoming heavy, slowly laying against the couch, warmth covers my body like a blanket, a dulled smile and idiotic laugh, babbling on my sedation...then muching down some more and more until I eventually pass out with my wife on my arm.

But thats just me. I also enjoy a hefty dose of clonazepam over an alcoholic bender. Alcohol doesn't produce the sedation that I crave so much, it acts more as an arrogant stimulation. CLonazepam keeps me relaxed without a worry to do anything ...all day long.

Any other benzodiazepine...I prefer alcohol over 'em.

Well, it should be noted that dirty drugs (that is, drugs with a complex set of receptor-affinities) wont necessarily feel dirty (or vice versa). Alcohol just happens to be dirty in more ways than one.

I'm sorry, but your instructor will be forced to give you an "F" for the thread.

Same here. Hehe except after a point of taking too much the effects are pretty comparable to alcohol because my memory goes blank and I do a lot of stupid shit, but at least I don't wake up totally sick.

Alcohol gives me the same feeling nicotine gives me (which is not to say that all of their effects are the same), which is like this sort of uncomfortable buzzing (I guess that's the buzz ppl enjoy?) that isn't warm or comforting at all.

You copied and pasted that essentially word for word from a pharmacology website. This is from the website:

That is no coincidence that it is word for word the beginning of what your post. If you are going to use something, please cite the source.

Negrogesic, do you drink?

Its a tricky question the benzo and alcohol link .
From my reading and experience benzo's are the chosen drug for alcohol detoxing, were as alcohol is not recommended for a benzo detox.
personaly I think there are points when the use of one chemical can over rule another.
I think back to my year in thialand in 2000 were I was a daily user of bundles of valium, at the end I was popping at least between 100mg and 200mg per day and shit loads of buprenorphine.
I came back mid year to a rainy England and performed a cold turkey. It took me about 8 weeks to normalise, when I returned to thialand and done it all over again, went more for the bupnorphine than the benzo's second time around.
I think the only reason I was able to cold turkey the first time round was first my stubborness and my past history with brutal detoxs from my prison visits.
I didnt take the drug for anxiety purposes, so didnt produce too much anxiety coming off. What I was very emotional and found myself crying to every soppy song that came on the radio...
Short term binges on benzo's could be surfed through with alcohol and determination. I take into mind cross overs in dependencies and possible over dose from drinking and then continuing use of benzos, its one or the other....
What I had on my side was my love for temezepam and disdain for valuim, I cant abode the half life of valuim. My all time favourite drink was 4 bottle of temezpam linctus I managed to obtain from a friend. Then that was a mad time as he throw in a full bottle of 100 mogadon. At the time I was on 160mg/ml of methadone daily and it wasnt touching the sides, made me sweat like a bastard though.
getting off track there.
the trick is if your a long term benzo users, then why detox and if you do decide to detox, then a long term reduction is recommended.

Negrogesic, do you drink?

Not alcohol, maybe a small amount on occasion. But i take 180mg of diazepam/day.......

And all im saying is that if you use a source word for word, you shouldnt try to pass it off as ones own......

Is there any reason to cite the source? Seems pointless to me. If the information gets across, it gets across. Its not like plagiarism from somebodies novel, I'm not taking credit for it. Just providing information which is what is meant from these websites.

Yes, it is important to cite sources, especially if you are using it in the context where you are using it like its your own writing, which was the case in this situation. Why not just link to the website instead of copy and pasting it and passing it off as your own. You didnt say, "according to this site", you just said, "Why?", and then gave tge word for word explanation as if you wrote it. It is in effect plagiarism......

Well, I don't see the reaosn to cite a source unless I really feel the need. When it comes down to pharamcology knowledge that is meant to be passed down, I don't consider it plagiarism. I never took credit for it. If I were to specifically say that the information came from me or if I tried to make money from somebody else's words, than that would be plagiarism.

I mean shit, my webiste quoted your website without the source to your wesbite. This happens all the time when it comes to medical or drug information.

The point is, k'dout, that you copied something from a website verbatim. You could have at least paraphrased...

As for the original question. Benzos give me a really cold buzz. Do they make me feel disinhibited? yes. Do I experience euphoria? a little. Would I take a klonopin before a party? maybe. I have friends who do this and they seem to enjoy it. I don't really see anything wrong with the idea. I haven't tried it but I do notice that benzos greatly reduce my social tension.

Alcohol, on the other hand gives me a warm buzz but causes too many annoying side effects, like dehydration, and vulnerability to attack by females, especially fat, ugly ones. So, I try to stay away from the vile liquid, but in this culture social ethanol is unavoidable.

not only that, k'dout, but you did slip that in there, surrounded by your own words. had negro not pointed it out, i and everyone else would have assumed that information came out of your head. you seem to have intentionally done that as if to make yourself appear smarter, which is what i think people tend to take exception to. i certainly do from time to time. had this topic been of more interest to me, i might have taken exception to this one.

:\

But how else is he gonna be respected in these boards?

How else is he going to get a mod position?

Cmon guys, he spends his fair share (and the share of many others) of time on this forum, cant you give him a cookie?

Do many people find benzos an ok replacement for alcohol? My tolerance to drinking has slowly gone through the roof these last 2 years- and finding an appropriate subsitute would be great. The only benzo I have access to is valium, but the prices I can get it for mean I would be saving myself 50$AUS every time I went out!

For harm reduction's sake, I think it's a good idea to cite your sources, just so someone reading it doesn't think that it's "just your opinion- what does a druggie know". Then disregards what you quoted and makes up his/her own mind about a drug or method of ingestion, and proceeds to possibly mess themselves up. If you put down your sources, then they can read about it themselves before making up their mind... :\

i would like k'dout even if he didn't seem to know everything. he's a good guy, from my experience. we all fuck-up once in a while. oh well.

I agree. He's very helpful to the "uninitiated", and almost all of the time his info is medically sound. Overall, I sincerely believe that "tha' K Man" is an asset to this community. Besides, he's not seeking to publish his "work", so plagiarism is kind of a moot point... :\

I would be reluctant to call this a 'fuck up.' And as long as everyones saying something about k'dout, I want to add that I enjoy his cynical commentary, his original avatar, and his dedication to harm reduction.

It's not that big of a deal to do this kind of shit on bluelight, right? Who, except some nitpicking asshole, will know that you copied something from a website without citing? And even if you don't cite, i agree if its in the interest of harm red. and/or if your in a rush, by all means share the info. Although, people do get kicked out of institutions for even a slight breach in academic honesty.

Oh well, better to have good info that was not cited, than bad info that was...

Several people here at OD have some very good info regarding benzos, their use and abuse. They also usually present it in accordance with some type of harm reduction message.

So, maybe, cite your sources in the future, K'dOut, so some user at the shallow end of the gene pool doesn't try to IV a couple of Xanax bars, just because he doesn't believe you...;)

Other than that, I really didn't take too much offense (if any...) at all that he didn't directly cite his source(s)...:\

Wow, wow, this went much farther than I thought that it would. I don't need cookies, compliments, or a need for a mod position 8( If everyone believes that it should be necessary to cite the source of information that doesn't come directly from my own head, then I will do so...there is no problem in that. I just wanted to hear a reason why it was so neccesary but I got it now ;)

Okay, so back to the original question I guess....

EDIT: Defaultused, what was my original avatar, I forgot...

I did not mean for everybody to make a discussion out of this. I was just sort of annoyed that he integrated that source word for word, but making it seem like he wrote it himself.

I know k'dout is a good guy. I was in withdrawal at the time and it pissed me off for some reason. No, this is not school, and it was a bit far for me to call it plagiarism and for this i apologize, but i think sources should be cited, and not passed off as something that someone wrote themselves. But yes, better non-cited good info than cited bad info.

I simply think credit should be given when credit is due, i mean you dont have to use the fucking MLA format, just make it clear what writing is yours, and what is not, even if you just say, "according to this website". The topic of this thread is not whether or not k'dout plagiarized, its about substituting benzos as alcohol. I still do think what he did was a mistake, but fuck, who doesnt make mistakes.

We are using an informal format here, but i still dont think people should pass off information they found, particularly word for word, as their own. But no big deal, this stuff happens.

Who, except some nitpicking asshole, will know that you copied something from a website without citing?

I have read through that website many times, and i noticed immediately that he had copied the information word for word as if it was his own. If anything, it is a testament to my awareness, despite being in withdrawal. So simply because i was very familiar with the site he quoted, does in no way mean i was "nitpicking"; it is called moderating. But had i been in a different temperament at the time i very likely would not have called him on the minor impropriety.......

Sorry. I respect your authority. I noticed you acted erratically, so I brought up simply wanted to point out k'dout's (avatar = guy with sideburns) no doubt just trying to help. It's nothing personal against you negrogesic, never that...
