Are there any poppy pods that look like p. somniferum but aren't?? I look out for the greeny blue leaves and the bulbous pods and that's basically how I identify them...

Thats a difficult one when they're green. What I DO know is that most poppies grown in the UK (gardens, places like Tatton park) are usually P. Somniferum.

The owners/gardeners etc usually don't usually have a clue they're opium poppies, so a bit of late-night pod pinching usually results in bewilderment more than a call to the police.

Haha yeah, my neighbourood is like opium poppy central! They're everywhere, and nobody seems to realise cept for me. I go poppy pinching in the night hahaha =D

Opium thirsties & black hairy tongues.

I'm once again under the influence of a divine plant. However i've been in the throes of the black hairy tongue.

I'm astonished at the way Opium seems to promote a healthy taste for water; when ingesting this drug i may drink up to 10 pints of water per day!

Seriously how many of us are the most thirsty mofos in town after drinking poppy tea. Christ Alive!

I do love a beverage but i'm pissing like a camel every hour!

Tasmanians are good. Used to be able to drive to the source and pick them up, but two years ago the source went "out of business" for some reason. Now, the only ones that I get, since I cannot get any Taz, are Arizonas. They rock!
The shortage that is going on now at this time is very disturbing. This is the first time that this has happened. There have been shortages before, but usually by June or July pretty much full crops are harvested. I am very concerned. I'm sure that the poppy police have something to do with it.
jt

I harvested several pods yesterday, and im led to believe that these are indeed opium poppies. My question is, do i need to dry the pods completely before creating the poppy mush? Ive had them in my car for a day so they are dry-ing, but still fairly wet.

so, I just decided it was time to quit.....I'm not looking to order, but browsing the shops it seemed there were shortages of basically everything and everywhere has doubled their price

Whats up?????

Agreed! lol I've also noticed that pods irritate my bladder/kidneys to some extent, likely due to their slight (?) dehydrating effect. I can down a gallon of water per day like it's nothing, am always popping Cystex and pee like 50 times a day! Add to that the fact that I live in the desert, where temps are 115 this time of year and whoa...

I'd imagine the ebay-pod shut down has resulted in a progressive decline in the poppy-pod market. A (perceived) lack of supply results in increased prices (whereas on eBay every poppy seller was competing with every other poppy seller directly, they're now spread about and for the most part difficult to find. Since finding a reliable seller is an issue, they can jack up their prices without taking much of a loss but on eBay really high prices ensured you would be ignored).

it's rumored there was some kind of crackdown on a large farm. prices off ebay had been stable among vendors websites before june when the shortage started so it wasn't ebay shutting it down that jacked prices up. the summer crop wasn't allowed to be sent out to vendors from the farm, so shortages led to high prices for limited stock.

I haven't heard any rumors with substance but one thing I noticed from my producer this summer is that they had tons of small size pods. Lots of hot weather this year might have had something to do with it. Yes this shortage is a pain in the ass.
I live on and island and pods are the ONLY thing I have. If anyone in the U.S. has a clue where to find any right now send me a pm.
I'll be glad when all this is done with. According to a person I know it'll be two more weeks before harvest.

Since we are here waiting around anyway I'll share some thoughts on my tea prep.
First of all I want to say that those of you who dispose of plant material after the second rinse are wasting product.
I will start the day with about 6 large pods and grind them with a coffee grinder. Contents go In a large cup with just a few drops of lemon juice and very hot water. The first soak is always the worst so set for five minutes and then strain with a metal coffee filter. One of the reusable filters that comes with cheap walmart coffee pots are perfect.
Send material back to soak in the original big cup with more lemon juice and hot water. While your second batch is soaking make tea with your first batch of water. I normally use lemon or orange tea.
Repeat this process multiple times.
The second setting sits for about 15-20 minutes
Third and fourth half hour to an hour.
Fifth and sixth a half hour and use a utensil to mash the pulp a few times as now the pulp is getting soft and the cell walls are breaking down which is where the alkaloids are contained.

I will do this twice per day on recreational days and it is very effective and makes for a very long lasting experience(all day and all night).
Everyones tolerance is unique however and this number of pods may be far to much for some people. And yes I am drinking water and pissing all day long.

A 3-hour process, twice a day? that's commitment. And not my personal ideal way to spend free time...

avoid spending all damn day in the kitchen, making a big mess, and just put the pod grounds in water / juice / whatever, stir, and swallow. Put them in grapefruit juice and the consistency is almost identical. And the grounds have almost no "flavor," much less than tea does. Also, the extra fiber does you good. And you know for sure you're not wasting any alkaloids. But I guess for some people, the ritual is as important as the effects...

Earlier i picked about 8 medium sized pods, they look sort of light brownish and are very dry. I was just wondering if these will be alright to make a brew out off?

Also, I have a high tolerance to tramadol, like 700mg is a typical use to get high, spread over a few hours (stupid I know)./QUOTE]

Well at least you know. Trouble is, if you're starting to experiment with opioids then you'll find most of the options out there give a more satisfying high than tramadol. All well and good, you might think.

However...

If you get used to the buzz from 'true' opioids and then have to fall back on tramadol, there's a danger of you chasing that buzz, not getting there and upping your dose. Seizures are not unknown at doses way lower than 700mg (which I understand you're not doing at once - yet) and don't for one second think you need to be epileptic or have a history of seizures because you don't.

Having said that, you seem reasonably informed and you're making a positive step with the poppy tea. As I've said before, just watch that tram or you'll end up like Alan Bradley.

I've been reading thru some old, unbiased, medical books which have a good bit of info on Opium. I'll post a few excerpts;

*Codeine, one of the alkaloids of opium diminishes the amount of sugar in the urine and has been used in treating diabetes. (Never heard that 1!)

*The victim of the opium habit or morphinism loses his appetite and powers of digestion. (Personally ope gives me the munchies, but it sure fucks with my digestion)

*Opium procures sleep, but the onset of somnolence may be preceded by a certain amount of excitement, and in some persons moderate doses may cause prolonged excitement and actually prevent sleep.

*All the secretions of the body, except the sweat, are diminished or dried up by opium.

*Drawbacks to its continued use are that it dries up the digestive juices causing indigestion & constipation.

I may post some more later. It's curious to see a whole section of a family medical book devoted to the subject of opium in medicine. Nowadays u just get some spoonfed bullshit about codeine being a cough suppressant from the opium plant, yada yada.

Too true, please post some more if you get chance :)

Okay old school medical book with opium info continued; ( it's harm reduction)

*Caution is required in using opium to relieve abdominal pain, as it may mask the presence of a more serious condition, like appendicitis, which may require an operation.

*Using opium to relieve a cough can be dangerous when coughing is required to clear phlegm from the bronchial tubes.

*In using opium against a common cold, its action may be threefold, as it increases perspiration and thus diminishes fever, it dries up the catarrh, and it limits inflammation.

*Poisonous doses of opium cause no noticeable preliminary excitement but a drowsiness which deepens into a profound sleep. The skin is pale , cold and perhaps covered in perspiration. The pupils contract until hardly visible, becoming what is called the pinpoint pupil.
