So far I'm pretty disappointed with pod tea. I guess I may have just been unlucky and received a really shit batch, but I've yet to experience a decent, lengthy high from them and now find myself 'chasing the dragon' 1 week after my first attempt. I started with 2 large pods (about the size of a tennis ball) to test the waters, that got me nowhere; 5 pods gave me a feeling like a codeine high starting to come on for 30 minutes then died; 7 pods (3 large, 2 medium, and 2 smaller ones slightly bigger than golf balls) gave me a pretty nice high for about an hour, then I started nodding pretty hard for about an hour and then it went. So like I say I'm yet to feel anything close the the 12+ hour highs that have been reported. I've not even felt anything close to a proper opiate high for more than an hour.
I'm pretty sure I've got my recipe correct:
- boil 2 cups of water (about 650 - 700ml)
- allow water to cool for 10-15 minutes to avoid the possibility of destroying alkaloids with boiling water
- Add the water to desired amount of pods (grinded to a powder) and steep for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally
- filter through a sieve, straining the grounds to get all the water out
The resulting water has been very dark each time, with bits of grounds which made it through the sieve. What could be going wrong? I've been taking codeine about twice a week for the past few months and my tolerance is ~500mg, though I haven't had any since last sunday - 2 days before I first tried the pods. I would have thought, even with my tolerance that 7 pods would be enough, no? Someone in another thread suggested eating the grounds, which I did try with the leftover grounds after the attempt with 5 pods... but I would really rather not try that again, it was a struggle to say the least *shudder*.
Any thoughts on what could be going wrong with my tea?
