I'm doing fine so far living on the edge of a small town. My TV is about 10-15 years old now. Wifi antennas were yanked out of it long ago and it can't talk to the network. Only microphone in the house is unplugged 99% of the time. Yanked microphone and covered webcam on my laptop. Which runs a very secure OS that I can fully understand. Which disables both microphone and webcam by default in software (sends black image to webcam and faked input to mic).
Buying another used laptop soon to go with it mostly for fun which will run an OS most people have never heard of (plan on forking it and releasing my own). Desktop running a more common but highly modified OS I build from source myself and fully understand which can still support all modern software through compile time flags and patch sets. Real wireless APs in my home which are only on when I use wifi when I'm away from my desk. Have 35 CAT6 cable drops throughout my home all running back to my server closet.
25+ year old computer running a very secure OS acting as my firewall that sits between my LAN and the rest of the world where I enforce strict rules to prevent anything that might walk into my house from contacting the outside world. Entertainment is provided by a media server I built myself which I load content on automatically via USENET, IRC and torrents grabbed from RSS feeds using some scripts I wrote. Have a bunch of other home severs for various things like music and building software binaries to push to devices on the rest of my LAN. If I want I can stream music to anywhere in the world from my home using a little box I built for that purpose. I can ssh into any of my servers/computers from anywhere in the world. Provided I have an internet connection.
Pay cash for everything. No debit card get cash from the credit union once or twice a month. No "rewards" card used at the grocery store so they can't track my buying habits. No cell phone. 22 year old car is my newest one and is my daily driver. All my other cars and trucks were built from the late 60s until the early 90s. My motorcycles are all older ones with carbs aside from my new one that I mostly use for fun. No social media accounts. Use real protocols for things like messaging instead of social media (mostly IRC and email). Barely use the web anymore stick mostly to mailing lists. Operate my own mail server. Have multiple IPv4 static IP addresses. Two ISPs (fiber and cable). Still have a real copper landline which is my only telephone.
When I do need to order something off places like ebay or amazon (which is a 2-3 time a year thing) I pay someone I know cash and use their credit card. They don't mind because they get the "rewards".
Working every year to get more independent. Thinking about building a small hydro generator to take advantage of water flowing out of my pond. Looked into solar for awhile but it isn't worth the cost. Could take energy from the grid without getting caught any time I wanted but don't want to risk bringing any attention. No smart meter on my home. I pay the $15 fee monthly so I'm not on their network. Snoop on their network all of the time for fun. It's really not secure.
I may or may not own an illegal device to disable things like Ring cameras so I'm never seen by the dragnet when I visit family members dumb enough to have those kind of things. That or I walk around the long way so I'm not spotted by it. I'd be jamming cell phone signals within my own home if it wouldn't cause every cop in a 20 mile radius to swarm into the area just to ruin my day.
Have multiple HAM radios. One big base station and several mobile units that can also work on other frequencies like FRS and GMRS. Bought a bunch of cheap Chinese radios that can work on stuff like FRS before the Government stopped allowing them to be imported. I can even key up and block police communication within my entire state if I really wanted (I don't).
I still do the drop-in/knock on the door thing. If it bothers people that I don't send 20 txt messages before showing up then I stop coming around. They never had a problem with it before 2010 so I don't see the big deal. Mostly they do the txt thing because they always want an out to ditch plans. If you make plans with me you keep them and meet me when you said you would or I stop making plans with you.
I haven't had too many problems. The flok cameras aren't out where I live yet. I'm sure the locals will use them for target practice if they try to get ballsy and start putting them up. They only lasted on mainstreet in the town for about 3 weeks before the locals dealt with them.
Now it's true they can still monitor my movements because they have a global system to do that that mostly works through radio. Any living thing can be "pinged" in that way. But there isn't much I can do about living within the field they've shat up. So I try not to worry about it.
All you have to do is literally not comply. If everyone stopped complying and participating with the madness it would stop quickly. I try to lead by example.
