UK's new internet laws, are we going to lose our anonymity, and become as heavily censored and monitored as China, North Korea, Russia etc?

Good morning UK I hope you didn't buy an iPhone.

The bit about using account age to verify age won't last. Google already proved as much with my youtube accounts that are old enough to drink. We've got multiple Linux distros pushing age verification and shutting down all discussion against it in lock step over the last week as well. Every FOSS mailing list I follow got flooded with fear mongering from new people claiming we'd get sued into the ground if we didn't go along with this. Tons of new accounts showing up everywhere claiming it's no big deal and adding code to track the user's age would never get tied to checks against Government databases.

Yeah right. They aren't being subtle.

They seem to have SEVERELY underestimated just how little I care if people know what kind of porn I watch.
H0WEVER....there's a difference between that and them forcibly spying on people.

So I always just keep some porn tabs open playing shit like Squirmfest, Gusomilk, Genki-Genki etc to fuck with them.
Like, have fun watching Hungry Bitches* on repeat. Enjoy your lunch.

They've just announced they're making "step-sibling" porn illegal :/
I get what they mean about it being unrealistic, though...like, I have a brother and I could NEVER...make him nut...[not for lack of trying]

I'll give it a day before there's a workaround via 3uTools

That site is fucking nasty, I learned about it decades ago, is it still going?
I didn't think that many octopus & eels were in the Japanese sea, all they need now is one of those Penis Fish you get in Korea.

I have no idea if that particular website is still there. This thing called The Disturbing Movies Iceberg* came out a handful of years ago and the Genki-Genki's were on there and I wanted to watch everything on the iceberg, so I watched them back then.

^"movies" is stretching the truth a little IM0. Like there's 8 tiers and by tier 6 you've completely left the world of narrative fiction, which tier 7 being mostly extreme or fucked up porn and then tier 8 has just devolved into mix-tapes of the worst NSFL shit that no human retina's should experience [like Registros Fatais 3, the MDP0PE's etc].

*I can't find the actual "Iceberg", but this list: https://www.listchallenges.com/the-ultimate-disturbing-movies-iceberg

I heard that in the UK they criminalized simulated incest porn. Making and distributing it is even punishable by prison time.
I wonder if that includes stepsibling porn since technically it's not incest.

It does. They *specifically" mentioned step-sibling porn.

It seems pretty clear to me that we're in the final battle for democracy and losing, which is not surprising if you already know how this act ends -

Socrates categorises governments into five types of regimes: aristocracy, timocracy, oligarchy, democracy, and tyranny

From the conflicts arising out of tensions in an oligarchy, the poor majority overthrow the wealthy minority, and democracy replaces the oligarchy preceding it. In democracy, the lower class grows bigger and bigger. The populism of the democratic government leads to mob rule, fueled by fear of oligarchy, which a clever demagogue can exploit to take power and establish tyranny where no one has discipline and society exists in chaos. In a tyrannical government, the city is enslaved to the tyrant, who uses his guards to remove the best social elements and individuals from the city to retain power, while leaving the worst. He will also provoke warfare to consolidate his position as leader. In this way, tyranny is the most unjust regime of all.

We see the lower class growing bigger and bigger across the West (welfare state, excessive taxation)

We see mob rule and fear of oligarchy in the most liberal places - e.g. two-tier justice system, taxation of unrealized gains

Contemporary liberalism also preaches no discipline - e.g. discipline is legally considered abuse today - and that has lead to a chaotic society where people worry for their safety just commuting to work on public transit.

Perverted liberal ideas about rights is also why the cost of living is rising so high - e.g. carbon taxes means food delivery costs rise which means food prices rise, lax prosecution of thievery and fraud means insurance costs have been rising and that cost has to be borne by all the law-abiding citizens... I could go on.

Many already consider Western states to be tyrannical and this is encompassed with the term anarchotyranny, which basically means that the law focuses disproportionately on punishing and inconveniencing law-abiding citizens, while doing less and less to prosecute violent criminals.

Maybe some Western states will find their way back to political equilibrium but that will require Argentinian-style reforms (firing most of the public sector) and that's not likely to happen until enough people leave that it causes economic collapse.

Youtube has suddenly decided that I'm a child and need parental permission to do various things on their platform. That'll be quite difficult since I'm in my mid 50s and one of my parents has passed away, and my other parent lives on the other side of the world.

It's completely bizarre since I don't watch anything a child would watch, and quite a lot of my viewing has been about pensions and retirement planning.

Which of course is exactly the sort of thing children are so well known for loving to watch. It all makes absolute total sense.

I have my VPN set to appear as if I'm in the ROI to avoid all the UKs age verification bollox, but it looks like Ireland has introduced something similar for youtube that is possibly going to be even more of a PITA.

I'll have to try changing my country again obviously, as far as I've gathered, it's mainly Europe, Australia, USA, and Canada that have gone insane about all of this stuff, since the UK went all state control a few months ago.

I believe that most of the rest of the world has been carrying on as normal. Excluding the extreme authoritarian countries of course.

I think it does include steb-sibling titled or described porn.

It's a very weird law to pass really. Most of the 'simulation' is merely and specifically in the title, description, or category of the item, which wouldn't be difficult to change.

I don't care about the titles or descriptions. That's never what 'does it for me'. It's the content itself. I suspect I'm not alone in this view.

The whole thing is just ridiculous. They are essentially banning words, the words in the titles and descriptions.

(Unless the videos or images show identical twins having sex, the content itself is not actually incestuous, it's just actors!)

Meanwhile first cousin marriage is legal in the UK, but now you cant have porn with descriptions or titles like 'step-sister teases with her cleavage.'

Yeah definitely got their priorities right this government, and some real clear joined up thinking going on, especially about internet related things.

In theory I could download a file and re-name it from a now illegal title, and I'd be perfectly legal? Or if necessary edit out any titles if they are actually on the video itself. They aren't usually.

I got this banner as well, no context or options provided just sort of... vestigial in nature

Arguably that's the whole point, to be absurd and provide a broad range of legal tools the government can use to prosecute whomever they deem an influential dissident.

Hmm maybe all nations involved in this new wave of internet controls have introduced this measure on youtube, if it's affecting Canadian citizens as well as the Irish. It was exactly was you say, with no option to appeal or dispute. I think I just clicked 'dismiss' IIRC and it went away :ROFLMAO:

Honestly the world is going mad.

If 'child' is now permanently linked to my profile, and can only be removed by age verification by uploading ID, which I suspect is the goal here, then I may need to do that. But they could find out who I am from my linked Google account anyway. So it does seem very stupid.

At this stage, I'm not prevented from doing anything that I want to do. I don't upload videos for example. They mentioned potentially removing the right to comment on videos which would be annoying, but not the end of the world.

I get the impression it was some kind of botched roll out of a bigger plan.

Maybe it can all be easily defeated by changing my country to Indonesia or something, I dunno yet. It's not a major issue yet, but it may become so.

Do not comply.

Changing your VPN will do nothing. It's tied to your google account. Of which I have many and most were hit with the same restriction last year. I think I have one left they haven't caught yet but I rarely use it and only switch to it when I I run up on age restricted content. More and more videos are being flagged as such lately. It probably won't be long until they flag that last account of mine.

All my accounts are over 20 years old now. All were made way back when you had to have an invite to get a google account (gmail).

They will continue pushing until you're required to hand over Government ID to access anything (including food and water). Already mountains of content have been locked behind log-in walls over the past 10 years. Tons of content that used to be freely available on the web are locked up behind discord and various social networks. Every time I click on a link from the few remaining forums to download something I get a warning about needing an account and/or to verify my age to access the content. Tons of things are locked away all together now because I refuse to hand over a cell phone number. Still, I refuse to comply.

The only reason this is working is because people are complying and willing to hand over first phone numbers and now Government IDs to get their daily fix of content.

The free software communities aren't going to do anything to push back. In fact, they're actively going along because they were taken over long ago. Every private mailing list I have access to is now swarming with people employed by big tech companies who are shaming anyone speaking out against this stuff. I've seen multiple people murdered and/or driven to suicide over the past 10 years through bullying and social shaming that contributed so much for free but made the mistake of speaking out against things they knew were wrong. I myself can't publish anything about projects I've been involved with for years on the few remaining places that still allow free speech because the threads almost instantly get swarmed with these people and what I suspect are hundreds of AI driven posts designed to waste people's time, spread rumors and post non-sense to get moderation to delete the entire thread. All of which claim to be long time concerned members of the community that always suddenly vanish the moment I give up for awhile and stop publishing. Most of the few places left that do claim to allow free speech have subverted moderators that only log-in everyday to delete content they don't want spreading ("going viral"). Usually, they try to shift discussion into useless arguments over politics, sexism, racism blah blah blah. Anything to distract from the real point the author is attempting to shed light on.

You won't vote your way out of it. Voting isn't real. Hasn't been in a long time. The only way out is a shooting war I'm afraid. I already know I will not have access to the internet at all within 10 years due to the way the wind is blowing. I've been stacking data locally and planning for it for the last several years. The only way I'll retain access to is to clone someone else's cell phone or steal their ID. Which is going to start coming with heavy punishment in the near future.

The sad part is the vast majority of people do not care because all they want is their porn fix and to argue on social media. Tons of people will go along as long as they get their content fix and/or are allowed to continue making money off rage baiting through the main social media sites. Most of the people that claim to care about freedom don't care about anything but money.

Frankly, if it wouldn't make my Grandmother and parents sad I would have probably hiked up a mountain and ended my life by now. Since I know there is nothing I can do about what's coming and I can't even get the people closest to me to listen (much less, help me do anything about it). It's impossible to spread the word and gain support now to effect any real change. The population is too dumbed down at this point and lazy. As long as the bread and circus continues they'll happily go along with it.

There is a pattern to oppression. This is nothing new. We all just happened to catch the tail end of good times. We're entering another dark age and probably won't come out of it for 1,000-2,000 years or so.
