tv: The Ashlee Simpson Show

yes, we must go on believing what her show represents is truth. How convenient she left out the part about being heckled and booed at the Orange Bowl.

Anyone who saw that performance knows what amount of talent she has.

I understand where you're coming from Deja, but don't be sore about folks who like to pick apart a music "idol" who deserves such scrutiny. She sucked on SNL. She sucked at the Orange Bowl. These are indisputable facts. You trying to tell us she had a "throat infection" because that's what she said on her TV show is just a tad bit hard to swallow. IF she had a problem, she could've postponed instead of making a complete tool out of herself. But I guess we're supposed to feel sorry for someone who's been hand-fed a rich career when she didn't earn her keep as a credible musician...if one could even call her that. Respect is the issue here...and I don't feel people should give her it. What has she done to deserve any?

She may be raking in dough, but I'm glad I haven't contributed to it.

And who's to say the voice you like hearing really comes out of her mouth? The marvels of sound engineering have plenty to say when it comes to average singers and their voices. What you may be enjoying is most likely not natural...but rather manufactured.

She needs to quit with the pitiful self-delusion that her singing career will be anything more than mediocre, and start in with the hardcore anal porn.

In all seriousness, though; people who like Ashlee Simpson are simply being fed a marketing ploy. Ashlee Simpson is a pitiful excuse for a human being, but it's no skin off of my back because I know she'll be gone and forgotten in a few months.

Even when shes singing acoustically on tv? I watch her show all the time..and it really doesnt seem faked to me..sorry. I cant speak for you, but as far as deserving my respect..well shes another human being who in my opinion has never done anything wrong, never hurt anyone. Shes cute, I enjoy her show, and I like her CD. Thats enough for me when you consider all the terrible people who murder and rob and molest children, who are MUCH more worthy of such hatred. :\

You guys are funny. Sure she shouldnt win the nobel prize or go in the rock and roll hall of fame..but for the love of GOD "A pitiful excuse for a human being"???? Thats just plain silly. Try using your energy to hate someone whos truly done something evil, like molest a kid or beat up their wife. Jeeeez...

It's TV deja. It definitely can be altered if it's not live. Plus, even when it is live, there's no absolute guarantee the sound isn't manipulated (as we continually discover through lip-synching performers like Ashlee and her predecessors Milli Vanilli). Do you not feel she should be criticized for bad public performances when that's what a true musician primarily relies on as their source of feedback? If you don't think so, maybe you should re-evaluate how you deem musicians worthy or not worthy...but that's just my opinion.

The reason people like this are picked on moreso than your common ruthless criminal is because of their unearned celebrity. I, for one, don't appreciate the idea that musicians who aren't that good can somehow become some kind of "star" because she is marketed that way. Criminals typically don't have visible fan clubs also.

Before her sister busted onto the scene, who was this Ashlee Simpson girl? Why did she get a spin-off show from her sister's? Was it because she's just cute, adorable, and hey she can sort of sing? As someone who's been playing music since the age of 7, I don't exactly find that a fair and just way to become a well-known musician, or even a performer since that's what I consider her. In fact, I find it rather insulting to those who work hard every day to achieve the same goal.

Her "appeal" doesn't match up to recognizable talent, much like the Tiffany's and Debbie Gibson's of the world before her. Yes this is my opinion, but one probably shared by many respectable musicians out there.

I'm not saying to not like her Deja. It's your right to go on enjoying what the world of Ashlee Simpson has to offer, but on the flip side, don't get bent on people who have legitimate gripes with someone in the industry they love when their place in it is highly questionable.

Depends on what you consider appeal. If you havent noticed, the general public adores these lil pop princess type chicks. Thats what she is..a pop princess kinda person. Just like you mentioned the Debbie Gibsons of the past..shes filling that same kinda role in society. And if Im not supposed to get bent about people not liking her, why cant you guys not get bent about the fact that people do?

I understand that a lot of people dont like this type of music..totally. What I dont get is the passionate HATRED for a particular person who no one has even met. Disagreeing with what she does and how she became famous? Sure..hatred? Sorry I dont get that.

In case you haven't noticed, the general public is chock full of morons who have no idea what they're talking about. What I want to know is what don't you understand about manufactured music? Like I've said in the past she is the epitome of what is wrong with the music industry. She did not earn her status. She is not a real musician. It's called "let's run this girl's sub-par voice through the auto-tuner."

What makes me laugh is that Milli Vanilli was more or less crucified for being found out that they lip sync and this fucking tart does the same thing and it's ok? Where is the logic in that. 8(

It's your perogative to like this kind of crap, but don't you dare try to tell me that she's a musician. She is as far from it as it gets.

ya know....when my friend's thirteen yr old daughter defends ashlee simpson, it's kind of amusing.

on here....its...its....almost disturbing.

but I DO find it amusing (and appropriate) that she's NOT being discussed in the music forum. ;)

People hate what she stands for.. which is a manufactured music. It's sad and disturbing to a lot of people who *love* music that it can be such a fake, capitalist industry. Its roots don't mean anything except money. That's why people hate her so much.

i cant really recall an innocuous pop musician eliciting such a response. what makes this chick so special? there are plenty of talentless meatpuppets masquerading as musicians why does this one get so much attention?

just my .02 but for me hate is such a strong emotion, i cant see how someone so obviously contrived and prepackaged can get people so up in arms. *shrugs*

Can someone give me a cold, hard, injection of reality. Because I'm struggling more and more with the belief everyday that this life, this planet is just a really bad dream I'm having.

In fact, I'm kind of hoping it is...

MTV Get off the air - Dead Kennedys

Fun Fun Fun in the fluffy chair
Flame up the herb
Woof down the beer
(click!)

Hi
I'm your video DJ
I always talk like I'm wigged out on quaaludes
I wear a satin baseball jacket everywhere I go

My job is to help destroy
What's left of your imagination
By feeding you endless doses
Of sugar-coated mindless garbage

So don't create
Be sedate
Be a vegetable at home
And thwack on that dial
If we have our way even you will believe
This is the future of rock and roll

How far will you go
How low will you stoop
To tranquilize our minds with your sugar-coated swill

You've turned rock and roll rebellion
Into Pat Boone sedation
Making sure nothing's left to the imagination

M.T.V. Get off the
M.T.V. Get off the
M.T.V. Get off the air
Get off the air

See the latest rejects from the muppet show
Wag their tits and their dicks
As they lip-synch on screen
There's something I don't like
About a band who always smiles
Another tax write-off
For some schmuck who doesn't care

M.T.V. Get off the air
And so it was
Our beloved corporate gods
Claimed they created rock video
Allowing it to sink as low in one year
As commercial TV has in 25
"It's the new frontier," they say
It's wide open, anything can happen
But you've got a lot of nerve
To call yourself a pioneer
When you're too god-damn conservative
To take real chances.

Tin-eared
Graph-paper brained accountants
Instead of music fans
Call all the shots at giant record companies now

The lowest common denominator rules
Forget honesty
Forget creativity
The dumbest buy the mostest
That's the name of the game

But sales are slumping
And no one will say why
Could it be they put out one too many lousy records?!?

M.T.V. Get off the air!
NOW

Didn't you know, cravN? They put her on TV for the daily Two Minutes of Hate.

:\

She's our Violent Passion Surrogate.

Regularly once a month. We flood the whole system with adrenin. It's the complete physiological equivalent of fear and rage. All the tonic effects of murdering Desdemona and being murdered by Othello, without any of the inconveniences :)

yes, her dad's pimped her out to mtv, yes she's manufactured, yes she'd never have gotten anywhere if it wasnt for her sister, but i dont care.

ashlee is hot and her voice (or the voice they've given her, whichever option you prefer) is great. she's a lot more interesting than jessica and she's just generally much cooler.

and you can tell she'd like things kinda dirty.

No, actually, it isn't like saying that black metal doesn't deserve a place. That would be me saying "it shouldn't be allowed to be played because it's against my values".

Sure, people can listen to it, and sure someone will always like it but it doesn't make it good. I just personally think people who subject to art that lacks depth/skill are missing out from music that has it.

It's not *just* subjective either. I'm so sick of people saying "well it's art and art is subjective so you can't judge it". If that were true then we shouldn't have art museums or a RockNRoll Hall of Fame (though I don't necessarily agree with that institution's choices) and critics would be out of a job. So, then what makes are good? There are things in art that are measurable and not subjective. One example is innovation. Another is their skill. Both of which Ashlee has none of. I can't take someone who's started taking an interest in music a year ago as a skilled musician. Besides, does she even know how to play an instrument?

spot on.

Yes, I like ashley. And I believe that she has her own certain talent. If I think she would of become famous on her own, I would have to say no.

But, everyone has to remember that ashley has a very young fan basis, because she was on seven heaven for awhile. And young girls are what make these famous/ not so much as talented people make lots and lots and lots and lots of money.

And weather she sucks or not.. she has her own show, a career that will make alot more than us... unfortunetly.

And if you or I would drive a real expensive car and have alot of money we would drive around acting like selfish stuck up bitches too. Why not we would have it all.:\

^ Speak for yourself...

Why wouldn't I drive around acting like a complete git?

InFUCKINGtegrity...

So feel free to dehumanise yourself and the rest of the MTV generation and pigeon hole you and them as mindless fuckheads.

But make sure your blanket statement doesn't cover all of us. Because some of us like to think...

I am not fucking like you.

It annoys the hell out of me when people go around saying that everyone has a price. And that if we were in their shoes we would be just like them.

It's not true. Maybe it is true for the people who like to say this because they realise they are just as stupid as the celebrities they adore, just as willing to sell their (metaphorical) souls. So if it makes you feel better to imagine that we are all as shallow and intellectually useless as you, go ahead and think it...

But you're wrong.
