In case you haven't noticed, the general public is chock full of morons who have no idea what they're talking about. What I want to know is what don't you understand about manufactured music? Like I've said in the past she is the epitome of what is wrong with the music industry. She did not earn her status. She is not a real musician. It's called "let's run this girl's sub-par voice through the auto-tuner."

What makes me laugh is that Milli Vanilli was more or less crucified for being found out that they lip sync and this fucking tart does the same thing and it's ok? Where is the logic in that. 8(

It's your perogative to like this kind of crap, but don't you dare try to tell me that she's a musician. She is as far from it as it gets.

In my opinion its someone who makes music, I dont care if every note is written for them and they were cloned with the soul purpose of being a pop star. Thats just how I see what a musician is..sorry but I dont see it with all these politics involved. Sure she may be less deserving of her place than some..but I dont get how that makes her not a musician. Manufactured music is still music to me. Im just a fan of all kinds I guess.

I can like that and still enjoy Ashlee's CD. Why must people who enjoy her music be attacked? Its ridiculous. I've been a musician for 14+ years. I am classically trained, I have played in orchestras, jazz bands, concert bands, marching bands, rock bands, and done some studio work which is why the meer concept of someone like Ashlee is so fucking offensive to me.

You are right, a musician is someone that makes or plays music, however, Ashlee doesn't make anything--she doesn't even sing! She is an entertainer; something vastly different than a musician. I take music very seriously--music itself is something totally unique to humans as a species and when someone is cramming cookie cutter garbage down the general publics' throat, I get really pissed off. Music is not "just entertainment" to me. It is something I supplement my income with. It is something that relaxes me, or energizes me, or incites any number of emotions from me. Saying it is "just entertainment" is the understatement of the century.

I'm not attacking you, personally, for liking Ashlee, listen to what you like, but it seems like it is pretty obvious as to why people don't like her.

^I can understand a more personal emotional response in your case I suppose. And I agree, music can be emotional and many other things. When I said "its just entertainment" I was referring to the fun, light, poppy nature of Ashlees music.

It still all comes down to whether or not you think she has talent. I feel she does, its obvious many of you do not.

If a band or singer actively participates in writing and performing their own material and has achieved success on their personal merits, then no, I don't hate them, if the same band or singer has achieved success due to guerilla promotion and backing from a label with no interest other than money, then, yes, that person or band is worthless in my eyes.

As to whether Ashley has talent or not, I still fail to see what her talent is.

i don't think hating her makes anyone happy; it's just a sad state of the world when untalented, vacuous fuckwits get success and accolades when talented people who work hard get little recognition.

liking someone's voice is a lot different to respecting them, and i think the issue here is that not many people think ashlee simpson deserves any respect, and so far i haven't seen anything that proves even vaguely otherwise.

it's just depressing that the world is so intent on not caring about anything important...but i guess, it is just entertainment, and that's the point?

It was HORRIBLE. which is why she was booed outta the stadium, and why we find it laughable when you say you 'like her voice'. The voice you 'love' is not the same as what actually appears to come out of her mouth unproduced. hell....put me in abooth and give me some very talented producers.....and i'm guessin' you'd like my voice. and to be honest....it sucks.

Meaning it implies no particular talent or skill, only an ability fool/appease the masses....or dare i say the ignorant masses. hell even kareoke stars and american idol(god help me) contestants have decent voices rather than simply having famous sisters and an 'edgy' look (barf).

One simple reason for me regarding that. In the musician's music world, when someone fucks up in supreme fashion (such as the way Ashlee did twice), they usually get hammered from criticism and lose most forms of respect from their peers, thus fading away into history. This typically would happen even in the pop world...but apparently in this case, all is supposed to be forgiven? That wouldn't be right, would it? Nevermind the one-sided presentations explaining to you what people saw really didn't happen, or didn't even happen the way the public saw it. Hmmm...maybe it's just me, but even in the context we're discussing, one should be concerned about that type of marketing approach towards any subject....or maybe all this is just a sweet reminder that if someone is a complete fake, yet they live under the corporate music connections umbrella, they can be an exception to traditional music industry rules if they bring in the young teenage demographic so their fans' brains can be jam-packed with popular music entertainment and wonderful hip products.

Does her having an MTV "reality" show save her from the dismay of a fallen music performer all her predecessors experienced? It'd seem so. Boo on that.

She wants to step out of her sister's shadow and wants to get bigger muscles but not work for it show she's all pumped on steroids (metaphor there ) and totally fake. That SNL thing didn't do her much good and she totally lost my respect after that. The booing at the super bowl is well deserved. They may have started the wrong song but the band caught on fast and adjusted virtually unnoticably. She on the other hand had about 5-10 seconds hearing the into to figure out it's a different song and start lip syncing to it but she still got it wrong. I'd like to know what kind of authentic singer can't even recognise one of their own songs especially after having just sung it fairly recently in the evening. She is totally fake and tried to blame it all on the band. Goes to prove how much of a ditz her and her sister are. That Pizza Hut commercial is no exception and I can't believe they are reairing it lately. How dumb does that and her liquid ice commercial look? I have a friend who is a fan of Jessica and he told me yeah she is a ditz too. Nothing special going on here and I could just as easily make money if someone like Ashlee who just doesn't have the talent can. It's probably just all paid for and she sells the image to make more money.

It's somewhat funny to me that there is so much discussion here on this topic (talentless mechanically overproduced pop whores). It seems that saying of "No publicity is bad publicity" is so prevalent. There is so much energy here being placed on talking about someone and something that you hate. Why? This is one of the main reasons people become so "popular", besides the mass publicity by MTV, etc. Even if you don't like her you still talk about her ... A LOT.

^^^ surely not? - popularity doesn't necessarily exist because of criticism. if all that existed was this criticism, she wouldn't be popular. she needs to sell records and/or her show to actually gain popularity, so merely discussing her credibility or lack thereof doesn't lead to that.

perhaps people read this and go and watch the show (i haven't personally), but surely that's not the fault of the people criticising? that's like saying people should keep quiet about nike's employment atrocoties because all it's doing is giving them publicity...

Your definition of shallow= MY definition of NOT taking everything so god damned seriously. It seems pretty damn shallow of YOU to assume such a thing about me based on something so random as NOT hating ashlee simpson with a passion. Im nowhere near a shallow person, and you know nothing about me at all, so lets just not go there ok?

It just comes down to a difference in the way you guys feel about deserving respect. Apparantly a lot of you guys think one should have to do something heroic or amazingly artistic to warrant ANY kind of respect. I just feel someone should have basic human respect just for doing whatever the hell they do unless they are hurting someone. And I dont see her hurting anyone.

You seem to be ignoring many of the points people are making about Ashlee. I don't know how you could have read some 10 lengthy posts of people explaining how actions/ "music" like hers ruins the legitimacy of music and still say "And I don't see her hurting anyone".
