News Trump reverses menthol cigarette ban

In a news conference after a Unite The Right rally held in August 15, 2017, President Donald protesting the planned removal of a Confederate statue, Trump did say there were "very fine people on both sides," referring to the protesters and the counterprotesters. He said in the same statement he wasn't talking about neo-Nazis and white nationalists, who he said should be "condemned totally."

I have to say in politics 2017 in a long, long time ago and I'm quite surprised that there still appears to be some confusion. But I freely admit I didn't watch the actual rally and am relying on secondary sources.

I agree entirely but here in America everyone thinks it's their God given right to have an AR and if you would dare to impose on that you're worse than Hitler. It's just not an argument you're going to win with reason. It's not even just stolen guns, it's guns in general. Most mass shootings happen with legal arms.

But going back to my earlier point - doesn't the 2nd state 'arms'? Because it seems like merely allowing people to legally possess firearms means that 99% of the weapons on the market are NOT legal to possess.

Obviously my point ragrading a Pershing II TRBM was an extreme example but I don't quite understand why people appear to just accept that in fact they are prohibited from buying any other type of weapon.

If the government ever becomes repressive, I don't see guns really being a match for the huge range of toys available to the armed services.

In essence it's like rearranging the deck-chairs on the Titanic. Politicians use gun control to scare people so nobody is asking why the people can't buy an RPG, for example. Something that could practically take out an armoured vehicle.

I'm attempting to be understood but please forgive me if it comes across a little confused - it seems whenever I bring it up, all is silence. Nobody ever offers an explaination.

every time he's given an opportunity to disavow white supremacists and literal nazis, he finds a way to fumble it, to equivocate, to send a muddled message.

at the first presidential debate he was invited to condemn white supremacists. a golden opportunity to say, simply and clearly, "the proud boys are a disgrace to america and i condemn them in the strongest possible terms". boom! problem solved.

what did he go with on the night? "proud boys. stand back and stand by." wtf?

when does anybody tell somebody to "stand by"? "stand by" means "wait there, we'll need you later." yeah, like on january 6th 2021?

when the white supremacists align themselves with you and you're given opportunity after opportunity to condemn them and you don't, well, don't get bent when people accuse you of racism.

Crew members are people affiliated with the site (either prior mods or volunteers) but who are no longer have active responsibilities. It's just an honorific - no moderating authority or anything.

I try to use warnings constructively - giving people the benefit of the doubt. It's not about punishment, just letting someone know when a line is crossed. My preference is to allow everyone to contribute openly and fairly to discussion - I'm not interested in silencing others, but I'll do so if someone is being an asshole/hostile.

I did - there weren't guns or child porn on there. It was a big deal when other markets started trafficking in weapons/credit cards etc., and as far as I know child porn remained in it's own corner of the dark web entirely. I've used a number of markets over the years and child porn was always a hard line as the community wouldn't tolerate it, let alone law enforcement.

I'm just saying, you're making presumptions and casting aspersions based on an inaccurate opinion that you're stating as fact.

Well, on a couple of occassions I have unconciously broken one of the rules but the mod was kind enough to say 'I don't think you did it on purpose' which was true. Otherwise I would have been banned, so I'm thankful to that mod.

As for menthol cigarettes. I haven't smoked a 'tailor made' for years but the last pack I bought cost something like £13.60 for a pack. Consulates. Last week I was shopping and the lady in front of me bought a bottle of (quite cheap) wine and two packs of cigarettes. It cost almost £50!!!!

I don't know how it works in the US but I've noted a few UK brands have found a loophole. The menthol is in some sort of pellet in the filter so if you just smoke the cigarette, it's just a normal cigarette. But crush the pellet first, it's menthol.

Here there is also a thriving market in menthol filters. People are moving to rolling tobacco because it's cheaper and because you can get those menthol filters.

I really did try to swap to using a vape but I would spend £40 and the thing would stop working within weeks! I kept the reciept but after two replacements, the shop just gave me my money back. I was using it exactly as the instructions dictated. I suspect the shop was buying faulty vapes and betting most people wouldn't keep the reciept.
 
i have always been a B&H menthol. the role menthol and arsenic have to roast intangible cloves and dried ane cured tobacco and vanilla creme mustve been the true purpsose to find out the way melding of flavor rolls out into a great Class A1 cigarette. i saw my first tobacco barn and roast before i entered into skewel. them fibers will cut you bringing them out the dirt. much of what of consists of a great tobacco cure and roast should also be allotted to a very far away place, in some sort container, wrapped with barb and chicken wire and kept as far away from the animals. murad was also a great choice, however i dont exclude gold bat as the brand of the great ones. this ban should be one of many see lifted. i dont see harm reduxtion going after big tobacco, but when the sacklers dropped the patent and big pharma needed all hands on deck, the double standard that i see from groups that would rather be in puerto rico or australia are the same groups that deny the impact on the petro-chemicals becoming a household name. this post was me venting at harm reduxtion. pointless. useless. it does nothing but preach victimization and upward immobility, halts progress.

You're mistaken, Vallerius was just a staff member. He was not the website owner who went by the name of SpeedStepper. Nobody including the feds discovered his real identity or the location of the site's servers. Otherwise there would have been a seizure notice instead of the login screen.
 
It would very much depend on which nation the servers were actually in or even if there was a centralized server. There exist technologies used by all large on-line organizations that shift the code and data between servers. It's a form of load-balancing. Because people tend to sleep at night and night doesn't occur at the same time across the globe.
 
Why is anyone honestly even concerned about what Trump is doing at this point? It's all meant to overload our society's "Overton Window" (i.e., a ton of noise) to force debates over endless Executive Orders that lead nowhere. Normally, people would claim he's doing this because there's some secret [insert conspiracy theory] unfolding that no one will ever see—but there never is such a conspiracy.

In this case, the real concern is happening right before our eyes: Trump unleashing Musk, who can leverage his unlimited resources and the power of his AI models to literally attack the foundation of some of our most important institutions under the guise of "efficiency" with his newly created DOGE. What both of them fail to understand—Trump being too ignorant and Musk being too autistic—is that governments can never be approached from a purely business perspective. They are social constructs designed to govern human behavior, and as humans are imperfect, the systems will be too (and perhaps they should be).

he more efficiently you run the system, the more inequality you're inevitably bound to create. And coming from someone who trusts AI—using it daily in my professional life—I simply don't trust Musk to avoid being blindsided by the ideological blinders he currently wears.

Four more years of Trump was originally a long term annoyance for me. Trump and Musk have become a very real concern. It will be a very bumpy ride!
 
Earlier today in Canada, one of their airplanes literally flipped over. Fortunately, there were no fatalities and only about 18 injuries reported.

By comparison, we’ve had at least four recent, tragically severe airplane accidents. Meanwhile, what is Trump doing today?

a trick if anybody ever wants to do cigarettes/weed like i said and not inhale the cig... get a piece of lavender or something that's easy to inhale and put a small chunk between the weed and tabacoo. this is something i thought to do recently since my CNS is messed up. i used to like the small hit of nicotine mixed with weed.

Yes this. The flavrX carts are flavored. The bubblegum kush was probably my favorite. And yes it straight tasted like bubblegum. That was like 10 years ago so not sure how they taste now. But I know the flavrX carts are still out there. They're more spendy than your cheap carts but if you wanted flavor then there ya go.

My mom's been a tobacco smoker since she was real young. Probably 11 like you. From her personal experience I can tell you that she would never smoke a non menthol cig. She's been offered when she's out of menthols and she doesn't smoke them. She prefers the withdrawal to the lack of local anesthesia. I'm sure there are people who have exact opposite experience, but just for perspective.
