Opioids Trouble Peeing on Opiates: Urinary retention issues Q&A Megathread

Hydrocodone doesn't bother me but oxycodone does. I don't do heroin or any other opiates.

I rarely take more than 40mg oxy or 40mg hydro (I actually prefer hydro over oxy believe it or not) but hydro doesn't slow me down like oxy does

Take a shower man. A nice warm shower will relax you, warm you up, and let you pee freely

Someone mentioned flomax earlier on this page. That stuff will RUIN your sex drive and on top of that when you ejaculate only like 3 drops come out. I cum like a porn star and flomax was like the dream infertility drug for men. I only use it when I go on long (8-12 hour a day) car trips
 
This sounds strange but has worked very well for me whenever I've had a hard time urinating.

Sit BACKWARDS on the toilet. (Maybe with a little water trickling in the sink)

I bet you'll be surprised..
 
Yeah this happens to me too. The solution is to piss sitting down. Besides stimulants I've yet to find a solution to the constipation though.
 
Help needed. Trouble urinating

I know this is a really wierd question guys, but im just wondering if this is normal. I do Opana quite frequently and sometimes while I'm high on it I have trouble peeing. Is this a normal side effect of opiates.... or am i possibly having some kidney problems that could be serious? Please give it to me straight and hopefully put my mind at ease =).
 
This is called urinary retention... alongside the itching, pinpoint pupils, and constipation, this is one of the most common side effects.

I recommend running your hand under cold water while trying to pee, widening your stance and/or leaning against a wall and possibly sitting down instead of standing (if you don't already, who knows?). Also relaxing and trying to take your mind off it helps.

Ok cool, its a really wierd feeling indeed. its like i'll pee a little bit and then I guess my prostate will go back to the "clenching" state and Its a struggle to clear my bladder. Maybe too much information there but thats my best description lol. Thanks
 
Yeah I get this all the time, Leave the water running, and sit down and go to the bathroom if you have to haha.
 
Also, I have to urinate alot more frequently.... even when Iam able to clear my bladder completely. Anyone else get this?

its definately an awkward symptom when you're pissing in little spurts next to someone in a urinal. LOL!

Its not as well known as the other common side effects but everyone who has used opiates knows exactly what you're talking about. Just relax and give it some time and try my tips.

Get out what you can, and try to forget about it, you'll probably try to pee frequently and not a lot will come out but you're fine. No worries.
 
I find it helps to just have the water running beside me. It's a frequent problem I have and it's a terrible feeling to not be able to urinate.
 
Yeah probably from drinking more liquid and your body filtering out the opiods.

It didn't really bother me at first and I just figured it was a normal symptom until I read a post here the other day where some kid was claiming he knew several kids who died from kidney failure due to Opana abuse(note: He didnt back up these claims or anything so i took it with a grain of salt) but even though I figured it was bs, i started thinking and it made me a little paranoid. Thanks for the reassurance though.
 
Just don't keep pushing harder and harder that'll just hurt, frustrate you, tense you up and make it worse, you gotta trick your dick... make it think like you aren't even trying and then just a little bit and you'll start to stream and if you push to hard it'll stop. You have to relax and find that right light stream and you'll get there.

this is so true, many times if got frustrated, makes you want to cry...
 
I just take a wiiiiide stance, lean forward so my arm is on the wall in front of me and start singing a song or something in my head. I feel it start to relax a little and try just slightly to push a little out, if it tenses I relax and keep humming to myself until I try and it starts steaming a little... then keep that pace, don't push to0 hard, you're almost there and


SUCCESS.

About the Urinary Retention: This happens to me all the time with opiates, so you are not alone OP.
Its actually quite a common side effect, especially with higher doses of opiates.
