Triple J's Hottest 100 2004...

Yay lets listen to a thinly veiled commercial radio station and vote for top40 music

A commercial radio station would fairly have Jay and Lyndsey from Frenzal doing the breakfast show. A commercial radio station would also have no product/company ads and a program as insightful, topical, and objective as Steve Canain's Hack (or the better 3 hour show he used to have).

Think, then open mouth (metaphorically speaking (metaphorically of course) of course) Mr. Negative...

My vote would go for a really funny song I heard about post-modernism but I think it was only played once in the year so instead -

social suicide - bad religion
adelaide - ben folds
yo mama - butterfingers
'merican - descendents
fall behind me - donnas, the
mass destruction - faithless
saccharine - good riddance
surf's up arsehole - guttermouth
black mask - international noise conspiracy
common people - william shatner

And I concur with the Jet sucking sentiment...

I absolutely loathe Black Betty, I mean, seriously - you're a well established local Australian band, then you go out and churn shit such as "Black Betty" which is absolute rubbish!

or perhaps it's just me

I read somewhere that they were hesitant to do a cover....
It is a good song BUT it has been murdered by all radio stations....

my vote lies with the finger " Bless my soul"
scissor sisters "Laura"
Basment Jaxx "plug it in"

I did vote for another 7 songs but my memory is shot and I can't remeber who they were...:|

black mask - international noise conspiracy

How the fuck did I miss this song? Great one:D

^ Yeah it's not exactly a 2004 release though so I was surprised to find it on the list. Pleasantly surprised though...

It is actually off an old 7".

"Just give me..."

Black Betty - I hate it when a band releases a cover as a single. A cover should be a nice surprise when you pick up a copy of an album. It's a bit of a joke using a cover to move units of your own record. Your songs should be doing that.

The cover is listenable (well was 364 forced listens ago) but I generally didn't really like that song in the first place...

--------------------------

There has been a hip hop song on JJJ recently by a female singer and the song is about sciency/maths things. Does anyone know the name of the artist and the song?

...chorus is something about sum of something and something is what equals being a human being or something...

the list of songs to pick from is a bit odd. i mean where the fuck is swayzak? why is the only dave clarke track available to choose from one of the least enjoyable? "what was her name?" was released in 2004 and its content i would have thought was more jjj friendly but the music directors seem to be going in a hip hop direction, more than likely to appeal to listeners who would otherwise turn to a more commercial station. some of the artists featured have actually released a few singles this year but only one is featured in the list to choose from, and i've noticed on more than a few occasions it's the lesser quality release they've listed. i don't listen to jjj at all really so i don't really know if they've played all the singles of those artists and only include a selection in the list or not but a few artists that seem more like jjj material will have one track to choose from where others with a slightly more commercial edge have two or more songs featured. i wouldn't say their content is going commercial, but some of the inclusions in their playlist are a bit dubious.
