I'll have to check out the book, but I thought the movie was pretty damn good, better than I thought it would be.

It was a little over-dramatic regarding the power of heroin, but I thought it was fairly realistic. The WD scene where he's dreaming/hallucinating seemed on par with WDs, so long as you don't the scene literally, like the toilet scene. I know when I was WDing, memories and depressing thoughts would come flooding towards me with increasing strength and Rentons just got more and more depressing/frightening the longer he was WDing. The order of thought hallucinations went Diane singing, Begbey (in bed) threatening him, the guilt of getting Tommy started, and finally the baby crawling towards him.

Maybe the words were lifted right from the book, but I thought any of Rentons narrative was the best part of the movie.

Quick question about the toilet scene. When he finds the suppositories at the bottom he says something like 'That's a fucking dancer!' Does that mean anything, is it a saying over there? That line keeps cracking me up. :D

From memory he says "that's it, ya fuckin dancer!".

Indicating that he found the suppositories and is happy about that.

"Ya fuckin dancer" is a British expression. To translate to the Australian equivalent, it would be "you bloody ripper!". Americans, I'm not as sure, I guess it means the same as "hell yea!".

"Ya fuckin dancer" is a British SCOTTISH expression. To translate to the Australian equivalent, it would be "you bloody ripper!". Americans, I'm not as sure, I guess it means the same as "hell yea!".
fixed! :D

but otherwise correct. ;)

I love those books. If you like trainspotting you MUST read porno all the good & bad characters get some poetic justice endings.

Ohh, I should have figured that, since Trainspotting is set in Scotland.

To my credit I didn't Google it or anything. ;)

^ simply a reflection of a truly great movie?

alasdair

a bit exaggerated

Yeah, I liked the book better too.

The bathroom scene, pulling your shit out of the toilet, was pretty funny. Too true too true.

There's some post somewhere up here or on Opiophile by this guy who puked 5 80s then was too disgusted by the puke to drink up his OC spew. Wasting 5 80s cause they have some puke on them??? Let's just say that I would approach that situation differently. But hey, if you can let them go, you can definitely pat yourself on the back for not being a junkie.

Great film, even better book. The characters are genius, the music's great, the cinematography's good and so is the acting.

Can't wait for Porno to be made, I'm sure it'll be great too.

I saw movie about two weeks ago, and during the withdrawal scene (I guess its the 2nd one, not the one where he loads up on the tomato soup, the one where he's in his bed) I had to shut it off because I started to get twitches and other heroin wd symptoms, even though I've been clean for almost 6 months. Funny how that shit works.

I thought it was well acted, but exaggerated a bit. Watched it a few times though as I really liked the acting.

It's not meant to be realistic though is it, it's just a stylised work of fiction about some smackheads' lives... Like saying Human Traffic is a realistic portrayal of people taking E.
human traffic is a great film, they both are really.
what makes them unrealistic is the fact the use a lot of metaphores.
when i watch human traffic it reminds me of when i used to go out.
i love the spliff politics and comedown sermon. its all true, just portrayed in a surreal way.

'Filth' is his best book imo, truely amazing. Also the novella 'a smart cunt' at the end of 'the acid house' I can really relate to, he's a great author

I hadn't watched it in awhile, and I watched it again last night and was reminded,
HOLY HELL! I LOVE THIS MOVIE!

:)

ATTN: PLOT SPOILER
I actually just saw this, although I did miss the first 10 min or so. Thats what you get for watching movies on TV. Sadly either I don't remember or missed the bathroom scene. I guess I will have to try to catch it again.

Being American, there were quite a few times that lines were lost because I couldn't understand through the accents. I think if I saw it a few more times it would be easier, it just takes adjustment. It was an ok movie, it wasn't great. Yeah, the subject matter of heroin addiction was interesting, but that alone doesn't make a great movie. Although the end was good, 1. It felt me wanting more (which I understand is the point, but it still annoys me) and 2. It just ended like SO MANY other movies, [spoil]the guy takes off with the money to start a new life.[/spoil]

I was very interested with the W/Ds as well as the OD. I think the OD was very well done, however never experiencing one myself its hard to know. I do have to say though, him coming out of it that fast in the hospital when they gave him the drugs to counteract it, looked...painful really.
