Trainspotting

How's Porno compare?

porno and trainspotting are two different books. trainspotting is full of drinking alcohol, junk, tweak, shoplifting/robbery, getting hiv+ etc. porno is different, its not a book like trainspotting. i also like the end of the trainspotting book, the movie and the book have different ends (in the movie you see rent boy chooses life, but in the book, he chooses something else:p). i found the second book funnier than the first one as well, trainspotting is much more depressive.

Read the book, The Acid House, by the same author is good also

'a smart cunt' is by far my favorite book/novel/story

it was supposed to be turned into a movie...but i guess they ran out of money

Great movie. I watched it 10 times. I love the choose life dialog and that schoolgirl is hot as hell naked.

trainspotting is very good. Spun is really not that good from a cinematic standpoint, although amusing most the time.

book is fucking stellar.

So I was listening to my local NPR station as a frequently do and on it was an interview with the author of the book Trainspotting. It was a good interview so I decided to hose off and buy the movie. I took money that would usually go to finance my habit and I bought a moooovie.

Anyways, I was about five, maybe ten minutes into it and I was overcome by an urge to use. So what do you think I did?

The film is good and about a group of heroin addicts. I'm sure many of you have seen it. I had heard about it and just rectly made the time to sit down and watch it. Much better than Spun, a movie about a bunch of tweakers, I shudder at how bad Spun is in comparison to Trainspotting... its like comparing the United States to Canada... it just doesn't fucking add up. Trainspotting is excellent and Spun is amusing but overall IMHO a terrible film when you stand them side by side.

I am degressing from my point. Trainspotting did a very decent job of displaying certain aspects of how addifcts live their lives... Its a great movie I highly recommend everyone watch it, its good for 94 minutes and it'll be good in a week when I'm nodding to heaven.

Anyone else seen this? Liked it, disliked it? Tell tell!

i thought it was a horribly inaccurate dipiction of "junkie life" produced for anti-drug purposes.

honestly, who shoots up in the SAME vein OVER AND OVER AND OVER untill it gets black like that? thats not real life, thats anti-drug propaganda.

that, and the fact that the director hasnt even taken a hit of pot (or so he claims) totally discredits the movie in my eyes.

The Author of the original book was a heroin addict for a long time from what I understand and he had a large hand in the filming/directing and drug use aspects of the film.

What are you talking about, there is not such a thing in Trainspotting... Maybe you are mistaken with Requiem for a dream?

btw i really like Trainspotting, i own the DVD and i watched it numerous times... It made me discover Lou Reed also. =D

But i haven't read the book yet, because it has never been translated in french... And my english is not good enough to really appreciate a book in that language.

^^^dude you can write better than a lot of americans ive seen; you should give it a try :)

I could give a fuck less if the director never took an aspirin. Trainspotting is a masterpiece. Even with the cheesey dated (yet VERY compelling) special effects aside. I still love it when he hits and melts into the floor until the nurse brings him out of it. CHEAP EFFECT VERY EFFECTIVE.

And you wanna know who shoots in the same vein over and over........someone who has used all of the rest of their viens for so long that they are no longer an option. Although mine were never black....I think that was added FOR shock value. but still spot on. SICKBOY RULZ=D ofcourse check my quote...choose electric tip openers......PS requiem for a dream is great also but its meth instead of H (LOVED THE PUPILS DILATING)

^^^requiem for a dream was about heroin addiction (and TV/speed addiction when it came to the mother)...and about a bunch of other stuff as well...it's definately not about meth

im gonna buy the book tomrorow, i fucking loved this movie so im sure the book must be fucking awsome.

When I first saw the movie I didn't try hard enough to get into it and past the accents, which were very hard for me to understand. At the time I wasn't using heroin really, so it wasn't as big a deal for me. Now I bet I could really get into it.

When I initially saw requiem I thought it was about tweak too due to the pupil dialation, but I guess they were shooting heroin, a lot of people have told me that. I think they tried to keep whatever drug it was fairly ambiguous so that it could apply to any drug that you IV.

'Filth' by the same author is also a great read.

I actually thought it was one of his weaker novels.

I remember being 14-15 and watching Trainspotting having no idea what it was going to be about. Boy did I get a shock.

If you liked Trainspotting (and not just because it was about drugs) try reading Irvine Welsh's latest book - The Bedroom Secrets of the Master Chefs. Excellent story.

yeah, the dude who shot up in the same vein repeatedly until it became blackened from infection is most definitely requiem for a dream.

i read the book trainspotting first (because i was in a film and lit class) and was hooked... i saw the movie, and i loved it too, but because it's a good movie in and of itself, not really so in comparison to the book.
the book is amazing and i'd suggest by the same author (irvine welsh) the book ecstasy: three tales of chemical romance to anyone who likes it... also the sequal porno.

great soundtrack to the movie too :)

ive been meaning to read the book but the crazy phonic spelling of the accents throws me off a bit; ill probably pick most of it up after a couple dozen pages though.

I agree... I actually went to a bookshop a few days ago to try and find it, and i did and was just about to buy it when I flipped through it and realised that it was all written in a scottish accent, and damn it was impossible to read! maybe i would have gotten used to it after a few pages, but i didn't buy it for that reason.

yea, it IS real life. bluelight and the group of drug users represented on here are far from the majority of addicts. dont act like this is shit everyone knows. yall should consider yourself priveleged enough to have this kind of information and have the intelligence to look out for yourselves. cuz most people aint doin that. reality is far from group of kids on a message board where the majority is upper middle class, educated, with plenty of resources for information and harm reduction, and a appetite for hard drugs. alot of addicts who aint in that nice-ass position dont know no better, and even some if they did, still wouldnt give two fucks. to say that showin someone shooting up in the same vein over and over til it collapses or gets infected is unrealistic is like sayin a movie about homeless people that shows muthafuckas pickin food outta the garbage is unrealistic. it gets worse, theres no limit to the stories you will hear junkies n x-junies tell. peopel do do the shit that you hear about on anti drug documentaires. not all of em, yea, but it happens.

no, tryin the drug once it wont turn everyone into that person, but many peopel who do get stuck on it really do live out the stereotypical life of a low life addict, dont forget that. what is this, "heroin users pride day" or somethin. i dont know what kinda peoples usin dope you know, but it aint like dopeheads are some poor, downtrodden, discriminated-against, oppressed minority, and dopehead culture is just a huge puddle of really nice, clean, reliable, trustworthy, kind, loving, law-abiding heart-of-gold muthafuckas who just got a bad rap cuz of some movies......

dont get me wrong i been a dopehead. i felt how it feels to be turned down at the pharm. counter just tryna get a syringe to shoot up clean. how it feels to get dirty looks and get picked up by cops for coppin, the day to day "missions" that you gotta accomplish just to get by. but a good amount of people dont make it thru all that with their integrity intact. im just sayin, as much good people who are out there using dope, well yea the majority of em are pretty beat people. sure drug users get a bad rep from people wrongly talkin shit about them. but dont forget that a LOT of them really do deserve that bad reputation right down to their toes cuz they are perfect examples of the stereotypes and thats just reality.

anyways, im ramblin, i just had to throw my 2 down. what you said about the movie bein unrealistic, its forgetting that the people on this board are the minority and not everyone hooked on heroin or other drugs is as informed/lucky/good at making the best decisions to keep your life from goin totally off track as yall are.....so dont look down on others like "OMG who would be so stupid to always use the same vein", cuz thats just as bad as makin fun of a 88 year old grandma for not understanding what "FTW" or "TIA" means on a message board. your reality is not everyone elses reality. shit im done....

anyways, the movies ok....
