Trainspotting

^no...i mean general public all around the world (outside of Scotland...or the UK)

...and yea...i know it wasn't the filmmakers priority to make it "accessible"...that's why i said that the movie would be completely different if it was set somewhere else...or didn't have the distinct accents

blimey!, why must you blithering drongos bung on the bog trotters so much? if you had a little less cottonwool between the ears, you'd undastand that the people around the old dart can get pretty miffed and packa shitty if they've been given the ol brace an bit.

im american, and i think the movie is perfect with the strong accents, it just wouldnt be the same if it wasnt that way.

to the people who didnt like it because of the accent: like anything else, you can learn to understand thick accents through repetition (learning, get it?). watch enough UK/foreign films and it will sound more familar.

to the people freaking out over geetered comments: well, thats the opinion of one person who happens to be american, so STFU. not all americans are like that, in fact most people i know have a pretty open mind. some people are just assholes, your country included. its just human nature, so try not to generalize so much.

as for the movie? i liked it, its pretty entertaining from start to finish. its much better than spun in every way (didnt like spun very much). i think in terms of cinmetography, requiem for a dream is better (one of the best movies period)
, but it lags in the entertainment area. in fact, its a bit too depressing for me to watch again, even though i regard it as one of the best movies ive seen and reccomend it to people. and whoever made requiem for a dream doesnt know very much about the effects of drugs IMO.

^^^^^^^^^^ I said not all americans are like that. In fact most americans I meet ( who are travelling outside the US) are charismatic, funny and v polite. So didn't mean to tar all yanks with the same brush.

I agree with you stirfry. It isnt very intelligent to make a broad generalized statement about any one group of people, and I also agree with you about "Requiem" and how you said it didnt come off as being to informed about the effects drugs have. But I think that was intentional.

It was directed by Darren Aronofsky but it was based on a book by Hubert Selby Jr, although there are several names listed as writers in the credits

in response to the first page the fact spun doesn't go anywhere it's about tweakers and i think adequately conveys their lifestyle where it was set. The plot doesn't go anywhere but tweakers get sidetracked and I think that adds to the overall effect of the film. It's not a favourite of mine, but I wouldn't go as far to say it was a shit film because that's the culture it's depicting. it's like Human Traffic there are many subplots that I think make the film more interesting to watch as oppose to just a drug movie. Same goes for trainspotting really. Fear & Loathing in LV doesn't really have much of a plot either and took a few times to make sense but it's depicted through a character tripping like crazy. Spun is just depicted through meth junkies who get sidetracked, going on missions to do pointless stuff and forgettign why with the ultimate goal to score more meth. Requiem too has sub plots. I think it's the sub plots in the other films that are perhaps not allowing you to see Spun for what it is.

i checked out the book and found that it was VERY ENJOYABLE to read both style and story

This is one of my favorite books ever. I'm glad that the movie came out because if not I never would have discovered Irving Welsh. The man is one of the great writers of our time, Check out 'Porno' the sequel to 'Tspotting' and also 'Glue' is probably my favorite novel in general.

easily one of my favorite movies ever.

and I think the Scottish accents contributed much to what made the film so unique. Trainspotting would have sucked with American accents, and i'm an American

In all honesty I fucking understand what you said. And Im fucking out of New Jeresey and New York. Wow.

Trainspotting is my favorite movie by the way.

"Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on Sunday night. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourselves. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin' else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?"

So I was listening to my local NPR station as a frequently do and on it was an interview with the author of the book Trainspotting. It was a good interview so I decided to hose off and buy the movie. I took money that would usually go to finance my habit and I bought a moooovie.

Anyways, I was about five, maybe ten minutes into it and I was overcome by an urge to use. So what do you think I did?

The film is good and about a group of heroin addicts. I'm sure many of you have seen it. I had heard about it and just rectly made the time to sit down and watch it. Much better than Spun, a movie about a bunch of tweakers, I shudder at how bad Spun is in comparison to Trainspotting... its like comparing the United States to Canada... it just doesn't fucking add up. Trainspotting is excellent and Spun is amusing but overall IMHO a terrible film when you stand them side by side.

I am degressing from my point. Trainspotting did a very decent job of displaying certain aspects of how addifcts live their lives... Its a great movie I highly recommend everyone watch it, its good for 94 minutes and it'll be good in a week when I'm nodding to heaven.

Anyone else seen this? Liked it, disliked it? Tell tell!

Irvine welsh is a fucking BRILLIANT author, definitly my favourite.. you should check out the rest of his work. He has released a seqeul to trainspotting, it's called PORNO - equally as good. Another book of his, called GLUE, is sort of like Trainspotting 1 1/2 - as it has the main characters from trainspotting and Porno.
Irvine welsh has also had one of older books, THE ACID HOUSE, made into a film. Thats also well worth checking out.
