I have no problems with them remaking Total Recall because I felt the first one was more of a campy homage than a true interpretation of the novel. I enjoyed the original but it was a little cheesy. Hopefully the new one is a little darker. I'd liken it to current Batman movies compared to the campy Batman television series. They are each great but have their own niche.

This looks... ok. But this is REALLY depressing

So this is our culture... We're like cows chewing the cud of recent history. Is it possible to be reincarnated into the past? I mean, I'm loving the whole "even if I'm really poor I'm still probably gonna have a microwave and color television" thing our era's got going for it, but if I were to blow my head off maybe I could be re-born in ancient Greece and spare myself the meta-exhaustion of a "Starship Troopers" remake.

here's the obligatory "you do not have to go see them" response

torrents have enabled a new degree of conscientious objection. pay for what you want to support.

yeah but busty that's a fair policy for every film release.

i might have watched more harry potters if they had followed this route.

don't bother with the remake. saw it tonight with a couple of old school mates, just for a few drinks and nostalgia's sake. incredible effects, but that's it. it is every cliche you expect.

2/5

^ Good to know. I wasn't going to see it in theaters but I thought about watching it if it ever made it on Netflix or something.

they clearly wrote the story around the special effects and the characters explicitly talk about the dream versus reality dilemma. as the french might say le sigh.

Thanks for the heads up. There's nothing worse than spending money on a remake partly out of curiosity and wanting to give it a chance only to find it's even less than your lowest expectations.
Still. I feel pissed off just hearing about it. What's with movie makers these days? These guys couldn't even base it more on the book and do something remotely original?

the remake is exactly the kind of movie i like to pirate when extremely hung over.

the original, well, it's entertaining, and like a few more of verhoeven's movies had a special place in my heart growing up.
