I quit 2 years ago for a year. When I starting having pain issues, I started right back up. Also, within those 2 years, I sometimes smoked when I drank. 2 days ago, they gave me a patch in the ER. I didn't really care to smoke at all, so they wrote me a prescription for some. I cant wait to start!

I'm on a 20 a day habit since about 8 years...

I was wondering how many of you stopped cold turkey?

How many stopped using patches/gum...?

How many stopped using with help from wellbutrin/zyban, or chantix/champix?

maybe mods could make this into a poll....

18 year smoker (started about 17 years old) Smoked about 1 pack per day since 21 or so. Weaned down over the years from Marlboro reds, to lights, to 100 lights and then the big step abotu 8 years ago to Carlton shorts, then Carlton 100's. Took Chantic for 2 weeks, stopped and continued Chantix for 2 more weeks. Tried cold turkey many times before with no luck. Chantix took much of the deisre away. A few headaches under stress and it's easy to start eating too much to "fill that hole".

It's an addiction like any other. Good luck to you if you decide to stop!

I quit cold turkey I said to my mate this is going t be my last pouch and that was it I never touched a smoke again...

I really don't like the smell of t either makes me feel sick now.

I quit in the past with patches and also with acupuncture. Although, I've started up again, I did manage to be cig free for 16 months. A bad life experience made me start up again :(

I gave up on Sunday! I've made it to Weds lunch with nothing so far! I'm avoiding beer, and everytime i fancy a ciggie i chew some gum.

thanks for all your answers... i tried going cold turkey just before i posted this but cracked after about 40 hours :( I thing i might try wellbutrin/zyban (buproprion) cause i can get it for free as an anti-depressant, whereas chantix/champix is 150 Euros a month, and i don't have that kind of money...

ps...thx for the poll bingeboy!

i quit twice once when i was 18 cold turkey and about 2 yrs ago for about 7 months with chantix, hit a speed bump at work and started hanging out w a smoker and started up again. need to quit again but all of my friends smoke and im not sure i have the will power to say no

A person in france mentioned really bad nightmares on those patches too

can anybody who stopped cold turkey tell us if this is a symptom of nicotine withdrawal or caused by the patches themselves?
the patch is nicotine

so, cigarettes would presumably give you nightmares too, if you wake up every 2 hours and smoke one

i wouldnt really say im a smoker but i wouldn't say i quit either. Hard to turn down when your not sober.

that sucks

I started in an effort to make myself cope with stress during high school so that I wouldn't fuck up so much. Unfortunately I also went through opioid WD during that same period and I also felt like my eyes were opened to the bullshit that was the education system. So I ended up fucking up anyway.

I still smoke because I like the dopamine increase and the stress release. Plus, if you saw my family's medical history, you wouldn't worry about cancer from smoking either.

Out of curiosity, are you saying that smokers in your family have avoided getting cancer or what exactly?

I quit smoking 3 years ago using nicotine lozanges. I still use lozenges every day. But I only take them when I'm on opiates or other drugs. When I'm sober they make me anxious. I have no cravings for cigerettes. However, I will smoke once in a blue moon when I'm hanging out with smokers.

I used to dip. When i decided to quit i tapered down my usage for a few days then just went cold turkey. It sucked but in the long run im happy i did it.

Consuming nicatine is not an addiction, it is a habit

if you can break the habit, you're free

basicly, instead of smoking a ciggerette, do something that you enjoy just as much as smoking

i no people who have bought an ounce of weed (not quality weed)... rollled up 56 marijuana cigerettes, smoked it over about 5 days and hasnt smoked since. (tabacco that is)
