about a year ago i tried to get hooked on cigs cuz i thought it would be cool to have those cravings and satisfy them with a smoke, but i couldnt do it. it was just too nasty, and my throat would be killing me with mucous and shit. i smoke on occassion tho. now dip on the other hand is something i'm addicted too. i started when i was 15 and once i stopped getting a buzz i would quit cold turkey for a few months, then i would start it up again. after doing this for a few years i built up an addiction to it. i still go cold turkey for awhile but sometimes i get madd cravings on my gums for a pinch. every now and then i'll buy me a can of some grizzly mint. after the can is gone tho i dont do it again for several weeks.

i smoked every day for the last 2 weeks until monday i decided to quit (2 days ago) and i took a higher dose of my selegiline than i normally would, and i havent had any problems with withdrawal or anything... im not sure if i would have felt withdrawal anyway given that i only smoked for 2 weeks.. but selegiline was shown in studies to have significant anti-smoking properties so rock on!

I didn't vote because it seems this poll is only for smokers who've truly been addicted to nicotine. I used to smoke occasionally since all my friends did and it was easy to bum free cigarettes. I also worked as a dishwasher so it was customary to take a smoke break, and I couldn't smoke weed during every last break. ;) I was more of a social/drunk smoker. Now I swear off nicotine entirely. Second hand smoke gives me a headache half the time. I'm not around smoke filled rooms anymore so the smoke bothers me. It sucks, it used to not bother me. Now I guess my lungs are in better shape.
Good luck to anyone quitting smoking or trying to. I've been through opiate withdrawal several times so I can empathize with physical withdrawal. I still think the mental part is the worst. You need to handle the anxiety and the compulsiveness addiction has given you.

Anyone read the book yet. I swear the book is the way.
I've never craved one after reading it.
Allen Carr, Easyway.
Go forth and read.

stilll going, pretty retarded..will stop soon hopefully
my grandfather died from it and i still do it
it doesnt even make sense to me :S

I've been a terrible smoker. And I can't stop. I managed to cut down daily use thanks to snuff. It's surely cheaper to take snuff than to smoke but I do both! I just can't survive a day without a few cigarettes. Cigarettes just chill me out and they work right away. Snuff cannot do that. Luckily, I live close to Ukraine where cigarettes are much cheaper than in my country. This is all because of this EU. While a pack of the same brand cigarettes cost here 9PLN, it costs 1,5PLN in Ukraine when you convert the price. Anyway, I was at the point when I smoked around 30 cigarettes a day. Now I don't smoke Polish cigarettes. Ukrainian cigarettes of better brands aren't worse than Polish ones and they cost me much less. Still, it is quite an expense considering this is not my only addiction. I get klonazepam for free but even now when I'm trying to quit morphine with help of methadone I had to pay for it because the situation is terrible here when it comes to helping addicts to get out of the addiction but that's another story.

I quit smoking like two weeks ago. Even then I wa only smoking once a day. However, I read that could have bad effects too, so I just stopped. I'm going to smoke one tonight, though, and I might enjoy one every weekend or so. Not sure.

I gave up a few weeks ago after a very good friend found out he had tongue cancer - at 37! He's now had his tongue removed (imagine going through life with no tongue) and will be spending xmas in intensive care + having chemo. After visiting my mate and seeing the state he's in atm it was enough for me.

Oh btw Mr Blonde - your statement of "why should i quit?" - too me thats possibly the most retarded remark i have seen any moderator make on BL ever - and i've been around this site for many years - just not on this username. You cant think of a single reason to quit? It's one thing to choose to smoke and hope your one of the lucky ones - its another to blindly ignore the overwealming evidence related to the dangers of smoking. To have such an attitude on a harm minimisation site from a mod is bizaare. My mate used to say his granddad smoked everyday and died at 92 - now he has no tongue and will be very lucky to survive to see the ripe old age of 38 but i guess that cant happen to you.. your too cool.

A person in france mentioned really bad nightmares on those patches too

can anybody who stopped cold turkey tell us if this is a symptom of nicotine withdrawal or caused by the patches themselves?

I have quit smoking a couple of times. The first time was cold turkey and I did'nt have any bad nightmares. Second time was with the nicotine patch step down system and the whole time I had very intense dreams.

The information on the box of patches indicates vivid dreaming as a side effect. I think there is no withdrawal experienced while useing the patch since it starts out at 20mg at 4 weeks then tapers down to 14mg at 2 weeks then down agin to 7mg for 2 weeks.

I am currently on the 20mg patch and I have been dreaming alot. It seems my dreams last for hours but there is no way to know how long they actually are, it could be minutes. I wake up feeling very anxious at first until my mind can sort out what has happened and then I'm ok. :)

I would smoke when I got really fucked up or was on benzos but I really started smoking in rehab, a pack a day. I quit smoking cold turkey after leaving rehab but started back when classes started up. I tried quitting a few times and for the first time I realized how addictive nicotine really is. I haven't smoked a single cigarette in over two weeks though. I don't plan on starting back, horrible habit.

I smoked for 26 years then I heard of a hypnotist from a friend that said it worked for her (she started smoking again) So, I tried it. I swear it was like a switch was turned off in my head. that was on february 5, 1993. I haven't smoked a cigarette since that day. The best $39.00 I ever spent.

Good Job man. Hmm What Did he actually do?

I quit smoking with the help of LSD.

I used to smoke a bunch. Usually a pack a day, most ever was 2.5 packs.

It's been about 5 months since I quit. Smoked a bit in there. I think I bought 2 pouches of Bali Shag and threw them away after a day or two, and I bought a pack on vacation. But about a month ago on the same vacation a serious LSD trip pushed me over the edge and now I get kinda sick thinking about smoking and haven't had even a drag since.

It feels fucking great.

i quit cold turkey after my injury. while i was in the hospitaal, i had no cravings or anything.

since my injury, which happened 5 months ago, i only smoked 3 cigs. but i have nerve pain, and for some reason cigs make the pain extremely bad, so i doubt im gonna smoke anymore
