šŸ—£ļø General Discussion šŸ—£ļø The Weather Thread

We don’t allow our cats out unless they’re on a lead (we live on a main road) but obviously they get out sometimes… never in the rain though - couldn’t make ā€˜em leave when they see it’s raining =D
We're living in a pretty safe area currently so don't have to worry about cars but if we were anywhere near a main road they'd be indoor cats. I saw one of my neighbours walking his cat on a lead a few weeks ago I had to laugh

We had one we had to take out on a lead when we first moved here because he'd gotten used to having a catflap and was going insane being couped up while we waited for him to get used to the new surroundings.

Still is a funny thing to see out in the wild.

I'm suddenly reminded of this video for some reason

Weather and climate are not the same things.
Nobody ever said it would always be warmer, everywhere, all of the time.

I've been watching the climate in Tennessee for over 60 years. Summers have more days above 100F than they used to. Winters have fewer days below 32F than they used to. Also, severe storms and periods of drought are more frequent than they used to be

I don't need anybody to tell me this. I am witnessing it and feeling it in real time.
National Geographic does, but I guess you know better.lol

National Geographic does misleading basic science explainers that surely nobody with sense would use as evidence for much of anything…

Today the weather has been mixed. Mostly sunny and warm but with occasional showers. Actually seems fairly appropriate for this time of year for a change.

So nice being able to dry laundry on the line regularly again. It just smells better.

Started out grey today but brightened up beautifully as the day went on. Tomorrow looking to be in the mid 20s and sunny all day so might try and get into the village later in morning. Not getting out enough lately!

And then the day after tomorrow the thunderstorms start rolling in. Hoping I can get away with not watering the garden until then.

Edit: bonus sneaky cat

Supposedly there's the possibility of a heat wave towards the end of next week.

I was reading this in some online tabloid a couple of days ago anyway.

The Met Office do 10 day long range forecasts, so I'll probably watch their next one, to get their take on matters.

They do go into too much depth for me though, most of these videos are 25 minutes long!! Just a 5 minute key point summary would serve me much better lol, but the met office channel on you tube does seem to be the most accurate weather forecasting service I've found so far. They got the timings of the long dry and sunny spell during the spring, and it's eventual breakdown and end, amazingly accurately spot on. So they are currently riding high in my estimations.

I don't care that our summers are only three weeks long or that I make the same complaint every year. It's too fucking hot it's too fucking humid there is no air con.

Ugh.

Fucking England man.

That's all.

Or weather complaint general idk. Too hot can't think.
I feel like we're coming to that time of year again. I'm seeing 26 degrees on the forecast and 27 for the day after. @Bleaney called it.

@Shinji Ikari I'm just parroting what the Met Office said, lol. It was them that called it. Seemingly correctly again, as the days and numbers are firming up as we get closer.

I find it impressive that they are repeatedly calling these things correctly and accurately from several days, up to a couple of weeks in advance. They got the duration of the spring sunshine spot on, the breakdown of that weather spot on, and now this predicted (mini) heat wave looks like it will be as and when predicted.

Weather forecasting famously never used to be this good, it seemed to be wrong more often than not, and that was just for the next day! Michael Fish from BBC Weather in the 1980s memorably stated - 'For those of you that have heard there may be a hurricane on the way - don't worry - I can assure you that there isn't'. I'm sure you can guess what happened next, if you weren't yet around at that time. But just to confirm, we got one of the worst hurricanes that I can ever recall in the UK, the very next day. Amazingly Michael Fish wasn't sacked. He was just going off the data given to him I suppose, and he was a good presenter.

@Shambles, I've tried visiting the Scottish highlands a few times over recent years, and did notice that even while the weather was clear and bright in England, the further north and west one got into scotland, the worse the weather became.

Misty / rainy / overcast.

It took me about 3 attempts to be able to visit Skye, and to actually have sunshine instead of mist, cloud, and general murk, and to actually be able to see the sights.

If people think the weather in England or Wales is often bad, they should try the Western Scottish Highlands especially.

I hear Ireland is even worse than Wales in terms of rain. Not sure if it's worse than Scotland.

Cats and rain, reminded me of my own royal Pussy missus FIBI.
i know weird name for a royal, but she was, also had two last names.
One from her mom and one from her dad, Cat breeder stuff apparently.
All that mattered she doesn t produce the protein house Cat s produce.
And i am allergic too, her i could have me scratch/ rub my nose in [big nose]

No reaction, so its thru about bush-cat s and non-allergic for me.

But RAIN, without a real brain, like anyone hear s it right when it rain s !
She didn t so she would be desperate at the door i d say its raining FIBI.
Wine ... wine, man open s door Cat jumps out. Tilts midway realizing.

'it rain s' Too bounce right back in, turn around and does her crack indoor s.
[crack as in shit]. She was no addict.

A secluded garden btw, was enough out space for her liking.
