The vitamins and supplements MEGA THREAD.

^ You sure blew my knowledge about Chinese medicines out of the water. What a combination.

I'm a doctor of oriental medicine. :)

I should add tulsi.

Anyone with tulsi/holy basil experience/knowledge?

I've only ever used the oil in capsules. You break open a capsule and put the oil under your tongue. I've used it before for acute anxiety. Strangely, its effect reminds me a lot of opium. It makes you very care free, sedated, and apathetic without feeling heavy and immobilized. Since I moved beyond the worst of my anxiety I don't use it anymore.

today i finish my gingko, and since i'm not studying any more, i'm not refilling it.

hooray for no more extra long days from next week :).

Morning: he shou wu, shan yao, cordyceps, rhodiola, chaga, astragalus, and sometimes I'll add Chinese ginseng (ren shen) if my vital qi is low but I explicitly avoid American ginseng because it's too cold in property for me.

Night: oyster shell, schisandra, white peony root, red reishi, licorice root; sometimes I'll add a bit of medjool date or lotus seed for a bit of sedation.

The morning formula raises the yangqi, or active qi. It's how I start my day without the side effects of caffeine. The night formula enhances the yinqi, lowers the yang qi to calm the mind, and is better for sleeping. The night formula is more adrenal.

In terms of nutrients, I get most of them from foods as I don't find my body processes multi-vitamins properly. I eat a lot of lightly steamed raw veggies, hemp hearts, sesame seeds, sunflower and pumpkin seeds. I include some fruit but it's less important to me, unless it's summer time and I need more body fluid. I'll eat an average serving of meat - usually chicken or fish - every couple of days but it's not as crucial to my metabolism.

I'll also take a dose of fish oil and vitamin D once a day with a big meal for absorption.

where on earth do you get cordyceps and how can you be sure they're real?

Does anyone here take resveratrol?

I get most of my vitamins from eating fruits and vegetables. I take a men's multi-vitamin, 2 pills of fish oil, and 1,000ug of Vitamin D. In the past I took krill oil since I don't like how the fish oil makes my throat and mouth taste like fish.

In the past I took various B vitamins like B-3, B-6, niacinamide, and a B-complex. I also would take chelated calcium and magnesium, Iron pills when I was not eating red meat at all, Zinc when I felt a cold starting, Vitamin E, and Vitamin C along with eating lots of citrus fruits.

I have also taken melatonin when I had insomnia and for jet lag.

Turmeric is really good for pecs/moobs as it helps to burn more fat in the chest area, I've been taking it for quite a few months now and it seems to work! Plus it's good for aches and pains - especially in the back which is great for me as I sit at a computer a lot! Oh yeah and if your a guy it will increase your testosterone! Def my DOC ;)

turmeric will NOT increase testosterone (unfortunately).
also very curious if there's anything that points to 'moob reduction' aside from some anecdotes online. Turmeric seems to be good antiinflamm iirc, but let's not get carried away.

I dunno man I'm just repeating what people have told me, what I've read online and what I've experienced (the back pain thingy), could be a placebo thing going on or whatever - the brain is a funny thing lol but as I'm not a scientist I can't really back anything up with technical mumbo jumbo.

I hope it isn't all lies but I guess it could be a massive con by people trying to sell turmeric products..

you don't have to be a scientist, or know "technical mumbo jumbo" (jesus i hate that term), to know that a huge majority of the claims on "herbal remedies/tonics" are, at best, obscene over-exaggerations.
/would be nice if they did half of what ppl claimed tho :|

Look man I'm not looking for an online fight and I'm sorry the phrase mumbo jumbo offended you so much lol all I'm saying is I've been hearing good things about turmeric and I thought people might be interested. End of story.

whoa misunderstanding bro i didn't intend to come across as such. i managed a major vit/supplement outlet for many years, so any otc herbs/supplements/vitamins are really my area, and you wouldn't believe the bullshit that surrounds the industry - i am not bullshitting you when i say that THAT was why i left the industry (well, to be truthful, it was because i didn't feel i got enough of the dirty money for how big a role i played in propagating the lies :| )

really didn't mean to come across offensive or like i was calling you out, it's just that seeing ppl get unrealistic expectations that will be unfulfilled pisses me off (moreso than the $ they waste)

No worries man it was my bad I had a crappy day yesterday, had a few drinks and got a bit too defensive lol. You seem to really know your stuff so it's a real shame to hear that all the good things I've been told about turmeric (and other products too I guess) is mostly bull :(

that's not to say that it's all bunk, though lots of it is. feel free to ask specifics for different herbs/vits though that's what this is for! and turmeric DOES have some demonstratable properties, though iirc they are all mild anti-inflamm properties. certainly not anything approaching otc nsaid drugs, and absolutely not a test booster (otc test boosters are virtually non-existant; if one were low in their daily intake of zinc, correcting that would have a demonstratable effect on test. However, go into a supplement store and their "best" test product is 99% going to be a tribulus terrestris-based product, despite trib having no such effect :| )

supplements can be useful, it's just unfortunate how much BS there is that needs to be waded through
